A decade ago, if my memory serves me right that is, I broke through into the Peak Realm. This was a significant status to hold, but nothing special for someone who had trained his whole life and is in his forties. I turned my back on the Sect that trained me to settle in the countryside since I wasn't confident if there was anything to gain from the lifestyle that I led.

I needed a new lifestyle, and in pursuit of one, I realised that people went crazy to get their hands on a Martial Arts Manual in small villages like the one I settled in. Having been a former external disciple of the Great Hwasan Sect, I was naturally a magnet to all those who desired to climb to new heights.

Becoming a peak master at my age was nothing to boast about, but I did nonetheless by exaggerating my greatness. Many young people, deceived by my words, flocked to become my disciple.

I saw the potential in this and chose to begin a new life by training students in a small countryside institute. No one would be suspicious, as people in the countryside know nothing of the Central Plains, and surely no one could parallel me in the village that I settled in.

Ever since I've expanded my business and amassed a lot of wealth. This led to me retiring from most of my duties and substituting the jobs I had to attend with some students of mine who chose to pledge their loyalty to me. For instance, all the teaching is done by my former students whom I've hired as teachers.

These students were barely Second-Rate, or even worse, Third-Rate. Not that they weren't talented, it was that they never realised their talent even in their twenties. And I never helped them realise their talent.

I never dared to declare my institute as a sect, even though I had over a hundred students. This was due to not having the manpower to go against the other sects if they were displeased.

My forehead has shown many wrinkles ever since, and once shiny black hair faded in vibrancy, it ended up in a pale-white state. My body has changed for the better or worse, and my life has changed as well. I now live a happy life, far away from the Sea of Blood that I call the Murim.

Yet I was not satisfied with it all. I had enough wealth in hand to last me a lifetime, but it still didn't satisfy my greatest desire.

I watched kids come here to train on that training ground beside the pavilion that I live in, and I gazed over them from this very window. But they all grew up and left for the Central Plains to enter Prestigious Sects. Seasons changed, leaves wrinkled, and new leaves grew in their place.

Money didn't matter anymore as I knew that none of it would follow me to hell, what I wanted was flesh that I could call my own. I desired a student who would stay with me for what little life I had left to live. In simple terms, I wanted a successor to whom I could pass my will.

I have since been searching for one who could satisfy my final desire that lingered in my heart.

It wasn't an easy task, but I didn't stop at anything. I announced to the whole village that my all-famous institute would be holding a grand festival, to scout disciples. I decided to announce a tournament that would take place six months from when declared, where anyone could participate.

As it stood, I was very well known. The word spread like wildfire, and I received hundreds of applications. We accepted all applications so that no one would be discriminated against. This grand tournament was set to take place on winter's eve.

To release the stress that I had shouldered during the stressful planning of the event, I strolled into the alley of brothels that was only a few streets away from my institute.

Money can buy anything, and this statement couldn't be closer to the truth. Throw a few coins around, and girls will circle you even if you were the ugliest senile man they have ever met. That was exactly what I experienced at the costliest brothel in the village.

I couldn't let my identity be revealed, as that would soil my reputation. Thus, my grand strategy of wearing a mask completely changed my looks to an unrecognisable extent. I didn't speak much to prevent my voice from giving away who I was. And it worked all the time. The people were a gullible bunch.

In the dead of night, I snuck out when no one noticed. And thereafter enjoyed a rather long night. But like all other good things, this had to end. I had walked into the most expensive brothel in the village with a sturdy stance, only to walk out as a drunkard like any other.

I couldn't walk in a straight line anymore but managed to navigate my way properly as I was used to the route. On my way back, I took notice of all the kids that were begging miserably on both sides of the road. They were barely wearing any clothes on them, lucky ones having torn rags to wear. This broke me every time, and I even helped a bunch, but my pocket wasn't big enough to hold food for these many.

I pulled out a few coins and dropped them by for them to take, wishing for them to reciprocate my kindness with a smile. These kids were abandoned here by their parents, and have been here ever since. They are all they have to call family.

As I was reaching the alley's end, I noticed a kid gazing at the sky. He had black hair and white skin that contrasted it. He emanated the feeling of being different from the rest.

"Hey lad, what are you doing there all by yourself? Aren't you going to sleep?"

He remained silent as though he didn't hear me.

I approached him with louder steps and asked gently, "Want some food? Here, have these. Buy some good food for the coming days. Maybe buy a rug too, winter's coming." I dropped some coins beside him and walked away from there.

Suddenly, as I was walking, I heard footsteps from behind in quick succession. I instinctively turned around and found the boy from earlier approaching me.

"Keep your money for yourself. I don't want to be indebted to someone." He demanded as he handed the coins back to me.

My curiosity in this little lad, who had barely been as tall as my waist, had been sparked. The ragged kid reeked of bad odour, but I closed the distance in between ignoring it.

"What's your name?" I asked, beneath the dark yet bright twilight sky. Under the broken dwelling's shadow, I heard his answer that remained with me for the remainder of my life. His words were louder than the strong gale that blew against his long hair, which consequently was airborne for a while. He responded with confidence in his stance and voice.
