Master Lin was someone I admired, and there was a reason for it. I was a frog in a well, and he was the sky I always tried to reach for. I joined his institute around three years ago, and ever since I've managed to gain the title of a Second-Rate Martial Artist. I am thankful for his guidance, but nowadays he has been busy.
He has stopped teaching me, instead, he is now my employer who pays me to teach other students. But I didn't desire such a life where I stunted my growth over loyalties. "Tomorrow morning, I'll have to confront him!" I muttered before I fell asleep after a long day had gone by.
I had the fire of passion to push forward, and I was still youthful to do that. I believed that being stronger was something prideful. I acknowledged my talent, stating it to be high, but the reason for my minuscule growth was that this institute paralysed me.
Twenty is not an age to teach, it's an age to learn, I insisted. And teaching was something you do when you grow white hair! I thought.
The next morning, I woke up with a headache. I pondered the rights and wrongs, before making up my mind to visit him. I anxiously searched for him in his pavilion, the gardens and the training grounds as well. Finally, I found him at the entrance.
I walked up to him, trembling in fear. My limbs shook violently as I approached him one step at a time.
"Grand Master! I wish to leave this institute two days from now. Please forgive me! I decided to stay until the tournament is over, and then I shall take my leave, please forgive this student of yours!" I declared, but in all honesty, if he didn't allow me to, I would have snuck out later that evening.
"I see... Even you?" He acknowledged, "I shall not stop you, but I have a favour to ask."
"May I know the details of this request?"
"I will inform you on those, but first tell me where you plan on going," He asked.
"I plan on leaving for the Central Plains! I wish not to be a frog in the well, but a bird in the sky!"
"I know a person with similar ideas, though he is half your age. He just left a few minutes ago, and I was about to meet you but looks like I was found first. I want your help with this matter. That kid is innocent and not knowing of the world's ways. He wishes to see the world, take him with you. His name is Wang Lei,"
"Sir, I might wrong you by asking this, but I am in desperate need of funds to suffice for this trip. I might need something in return."
"Negotiate your pay with that kid, he is shall be the new employer of yours after all."
I learned that the kid might not have travelled far, and immediately left the premises to find him. The Grand Master assured me that he wouldn't need me for the tournament anymore, and asked me to hurry up as he was worried for the child. And alas, after an hour of scouring through the surroundings of the institute, I found a boy whom I suspected.
I suspected him since he wore good clothes, was around the height of my waist suggesting that he was much younger than me, and more importantly, he was someone I saw in the tournament and he possessed my master's necklace. I observed the vulnerable child walk in the marketplace for a while before confronting him.
"Child, are you perhaps Wang Lei?"
"Yes I am, but do I know you?" He asked, and this confirmed my suspicions.
"Come with me, we need to discuss some matters."
I had worn a scarlet scarf covering my face, as we entered a dark alley that led us to an abandoned dwelling at its end. He trusted me without questioning me, which was a wrong sign I must say.

"Why did you bring us here?" He asked, curiously.
"Well. Master Lin sent me here. I am tasked to escort you. Where are you headed, may I ask?"
"I haven't thought about it, but the Central Plains would be a good place to start." He said, to my relief.
"I am headed there as well, what a coincidence! We'll be travelling together!"
"Oh, you saved me! I acted all tough in front of Lin, but after I was out, I was scared shitless. I was afraid I might have gotten robbed, but I chose not to go back to the institution since that would shame me."
"Master Lin suspected that, he sent me. But I won't use my Second-Rate skills to protect you for free. He asked me to negotiate a price with you. I shall name my price for this three-month trip to the Central Plains."
"What?! Money?!"
"Yeah, I will charge Two-Hundred Coins for the whole trip!"
I managed to form a good deal with the lad after lots of talking and bargaining, and we both set off for a journey towards the Central Plains.
"Hey kid, why are you going to the Central Plains? And all alone at that?"
"Well, I want to see the world."
"Me too, but I want to get stronger as well. So I'll join a good sect and train hard."
"You could have trained in the institute, why go so far?" The kid wondered.
"Well, I didn't want to be a frog in the well!" That was all I could say.
"Me too!"
I never knew that this journey would impact my life to such an extent, but it did in a good way. And that kid was surely someone whom I can never forget.
"Ah, Mister! I forgot to ask you about your name. Shouldn't your employer know of it by now?"
I was bemused by his attitude and the way he addressed my master.
I laughed and said, "Well, that would be Fenhua, respected sir!"
