Father/The Seer

Catering to a high demand of soldiers for my army was easy with my little blond tool at my disposal. I weaved her around my finger with ease. I was fortunate enough to whip up this concoction from one of my first prisoners. Her name was Adella, and she had the ability to cultivate many interesting things, one of my favorites being obedience spells. It was a shame her chapter in my court didn’t last very long. She was one of the rare few who couldn’t control her powers. She was an abnormal, or, an irregular. And soon enough, she made me realize just how dangerous her powers could get if left unchecked.

Unfortunately, I had to dispose of her like the rest, but not before taking all that she had to offer. A shelf row filled with potions for my dear Rachel here, who sat quietly on the end of my dining table, waiting for her dosage.

I’d prefer it not to have come to this, but she had left me no other choice.

The first dose I had slipped in her drink was of very low concentration. I wanted to test the waters, and see if I could make do without using much of my resources. Seeing as I was limited to only a few vials, I tried to warp her innocence instead. But her gullibility was only temporary, and I noticed that she was tapering off my command quickly. Now I was reduced to giving her a higher dosage routinely, and since then, she hadn’t doubted my efforts here.

Despite that, I wanted to keep our relationship mutual. So it was discouraging, seeing her rebel. But I had to protect my assets. Rachel was a fighter, that personality trait forcing me to restrain her. I brought the drink mixed with grape fruit juice on the table, and commanded Rachel to drink it immediately.

Without hesitation, she did just that. She gulped down the entire glass, the obedience spell set to last me for a day or two. “Good girl,” I said, appreciating her well behaved nature. “Get up, Rachel.”

When she did, she faced me, her stark eyes locked on my face. Reduced to a mindless drone, it almost broke my heart. But I had to discipline even myself, realizing I was itching for a connection with her.

I’d told myself that this relationship was strictly for business. Even so, Rachel’s beauty had always been something I had to tuck away for my own sake. Now more than ever I was tempted, because she was easy… because she was mine. I tipped her chin up to me, admiring her perfectly sculpted full pink lips, and that naïve expression on her beautiful face.

“You’ve done very well this morning. Now, we must move onto the next phase.” She didn’t answer, only listened. Not unless I told her to respond, a downside to this effective potion. “You are allowed to comment, Rachel.”

“Um, I have nothing to say…” she said timidly.

“You look worried,” I said, stroking the back of my fingers along her arm. “Your child is safe here. I’ve told you this once before.”

“Okay.”

“Is that not what’s bothering you?”

“Yes…” she said, her voice hiding uncertainty. I reached over to the glass and looked at the bottom of it, noticing the potion’s grainy residue. I started having doubts, unsure if Rachel’s willpower was strong enough to counter one of Adella’s spells.

My eyes turned to her, and I gave her a simple instruction. “Get washed and rested. I have more for you to do tonight.”

She left me alone in the dining hall, but not for long. Soon after she left, I made my way to my subjects, courtesy of Rachel. I couldn’t let her charming figure and my crippling loneliness cloud my judgment, not when I was so very close to completing my mission. I wanted to build an army of super humans all under my influence, so I could end Sigma’s reign of mass production. Not only that, disposing of the weak and the uncontrollable prevented an even bigger war against humanity. Truth be told, I was the hero that this nation needed, and with my unique ability to gauge a supe’s special powers as Seer, I knew what I was getting myself into every time.

Being a Seer surely came with a number of perks. And being a master of manipulation sharpened my resume. These scientists at Sigma-RE were a selfish bunch of monkeys, believing they could corrupt an already shakable system right underneath humanity’s feet. They were greedy playing god, and I had to set them in place, including tampering with the one diamond in a pile of coal—Subject X.

My sources labeled this creature in this capsule being of utmost importance to them. Once Sigma had their hands on a few supes, they managed to figure out that there was someone sleeping underneath Unity Bank. Someone strong, someone they suspected was the threat they’ve been trying to prevent. I interfered, and used my precious Rachel to stop them dead on their tracks. Because if Sigma got their hands on this alien, there was no telling what that facility would have done with him.

Truth be told, I highly doubted they’d be interested any in destroying him, which would have been the logical thing to do. Eradicate the threat, and move on with our lives. It sounded sane on paper, but Sigma loved to tamper, and they loved to experiment. It was what led us all to this lovely little mess. Although unlike Sigma, I wasn’t arrogant. I had a motion I needed to set into play, a clear end to all of this chaos. I imagine Subject X to be the cure for us all, the ultimate solider. And as I walked into the hall where TBC’s super heroes awaited me, I saw that solider still encased in his capsule, awaiting my instructions.

Rachel had mentioned not being able to penetrate the pod in her ghost form. I had a remedy for that, but I needed to open the pod first. Which was why The Tank and his team of three women were here. They were lined up all nice and proper, Rachel having had given all of her tethered puppets a command to obey me. I walked right up to the metal hard head and eyed him up and down, then paced down the line, noticing a colorful girl, a woman in green, and…

“Where is your fourth member?” I questioned The Tank.

“She is invisible,” he said straight.

I zipped my eyes behind me and said, “Well, become visible.” I instantly regretted it, realizing the girl wasn’t clad.

I looked down shamefully, clearing my throat. For whatever reason, she bypassed my power, and not only did I not notice that she wasn’t around, but I also couldn’t pick up on her powers. She was an odd exception to my strength, the same with Subject X. he was unreadable, and I had no clue how strong and powerful he truly was. So I asked my company, “His reading? Can anyone clarify?”

“No,” the three girls said in unison. And then I turned to the giant in the room, his face churning at my question. “Well?”

Ah, he was fighting Rachel’s tether. It brought a wide smile on my face, my feet pacing slowly toward him. “I believe it fair to warn you, the more you fight it, the stronger her link to you becomes. It is like a poison, isn’t it? Not being able to control your own body and spirit. All she needs is one pass through, and you’re hers forever. Or until she willfully lets you go.” I chuckled. “She is truly a rare breed, wouldn’t you say?” He didn’t answer, only sweat. He was arrogant, but it couldn’t matter. I had him under my control, and there was no escape. “Can you read Subject X?”

“N-nno…” he forcefully grunted.

“Well, isn’t this a predicament.” I had to tread carefully. I never liked meddling with uncertainty, but my hopes were if I could have Rachel tether him once I opened the pod, then I should be able to control him just the same.

Unfortunately, Subject X had other plans. I jerked back, my eyes growing wide as I noticed the capsule starting to whistle unprovoked, and before schedule. It was abrupt to have my chest thumping, because I didn’t know what to expect. Despite being around supes under my control, I was afraid for the first time in my crusade, and with nowhere to go, this creature cornered me.

Did I own up to this mistake and stay?

A brave part of me wanted to stay, while my common sense told me to flee…
