Chapter 14: Interlude: The Marquis’s recruiters

That ....was the worst outcome imaginable. Not only did we fail to recruit her, she blasted the south gate of the city in her refusal to speak with us! I was able to protect everyone around me with a barrier but the blast killed two guards that were at the gate. Right now, me my brother and the examiner from the guild are in the governor's office explaining the situation.

"YOU'RE TOTALLY AT FAULT FOR THIS!" the governor is furious. He hits his desk in frustration.

"So, instead of talking to her and accepting a yes or no answer, you drain her mana, damage her links, and in response to being cornered she blasted you with an explosion spell taking out the gate in the process?! Do you have any idea how stupid you were being?!" The governor looks at us expecting an answer.

"We used a similar tactic on other beastmen. They seem to only respect strength so it was routine for us to do something like this. We find their strength and show our superiority in the field they're strongest in. They usually follow the Marquis willingly after that." I try to explain. Who knew she'd be that powerful? I drained so much mana from her, it damaged her links. She's ten! What has she been doing her whole life?

"You will all serve a year in the mines for the crimes you committed against another. If she's this strong, trying to find her, let alone capture her is going to be difficult. Someone that strong needs a leash." He pauses for a second rubbing his head. He's probably thinking about the nightmare that it's going to be to calm the people down.

"Maya", the governor calls. A maid a little shorter than us with black hair enters the room.

"Escort these men to the guild and put a request in to find this girl. Make the reward five hundred gold coins for her safe capture and only her safe capture. Use these two to give a description" the maid looks at us and nods. The governor waves us off.

If she's this strong, when she recovers I hope she doesn't seem retribution. 

The guards put wooden hand cuffs on us and the maid leads us toward the guild.
