Chapter 1

“You’re capable at work. You come from a good family and you also have high academic qualifications—”

Qiao Li impatiently interrupted the man in front of her, “What I’m asking is the reason for breaking up.”

Zhou Zhe awkwardly squeezed out a smile, “What I’m trying to say is, it’s not you, it’s me.”

Nonsense.

If Zhou Zhe dared to hold Qiao Li responsible for their breakup, she would definitely splash the iced americano in her hand onto his face.

She tried her best to control her expression, and assumed a teasing tone, “So, have you found the next one?”

Looking at her “magnanimous” appearance, Zhou Zhe heaved a sigh of relief and his smile became more sincere, “Yes, you’ve also seen her before, it’s Feng Si Si from the front office.”

“Very pretty?”

“No, not as pretty as you, how could she be as pretty as you?” Zhou Zhe’s gaze settled on her face, finally feeling the sadness of breaking up.

Qiao Li was really pretty. Her fluffy black hair fell over her shoulders and she was fair-skinned with a beautiful pair of eyes that were slightly downturned. Her facial features had both the naive and youthfulness of a girl and the charm and maturity of an adult woman. This mixed temperament provided a fatal attraction to men and also gave him endless pressure—there was a constant stream of men who coveted her beauty.

“She has a good personality?” Qiao Li continued to guess the reason.

Zhou Zhe nodded, “Not bad. Her personality is very soft and delicate. She likes to depend on me, not like you.” Qiao Li was too assertive, she did not like to act coquettishly, nor did she rely on him. She dealt with everything by herself, never revealing her frailty. It made him feel as though she wasn’t his girlfriend, but a business partner.

Qiao Li understood his implication.

He had complained about her assertiveness countless times, hoping that she could be a little softer. Yet she could not.

“Mhm, so you broke up with me because you don’t love me anymore?” She stared straight at Zhou Zhe.

Zhou Zhe felt more pressured under her gaze.

She was always like this, always making him feel pressured and feel like he was unworthy of her. He answered without hesitation, “Yes.”

Zhou Zhe’s magnanimous and heroic look was extremely amusing, but Qiao Li could not laugh at all. She bitterly said, “Okay.”

If they were to continue talking any longer, she would be left with no dignity.

She got up to leave, but Zhou Zhe called out to her from behind, “Qiao Li, let’s have an amicable parting. We’re still friends, right?”

Qiao Li did not respond, and left without looking back.

Having an amicable parting was just nonsense. She wished she could strangle Zhou Zhe and give him a few firm slaps.

Only after reaching the company’s parking lot did she remember that she could not drive since she was wearing high heels because of the formal attire she wore to meet a client today. Usually, she could ask Zhou Zhe to send her but now she could only take the train home.

As the evening rush was almost over, the flow of people wasn’t too large. Qiao Li went to the toilet and removed her delicate eye makeup with cleansing face wipes before finally having a good cry. After she finished crying, she chilled her eyes with cold water and left the toilet, the wretched crying appearance a few minutes ago not at all apparent.

The train wasn’t too crowded. Qiao Li found an empty spot with a large space and stood still.

When the train reached the next station, some people climbed aboard the train whilst some people disembarked. During the back and forth movement of the crowd, she felt a sense of heat press against her back.

Feeling discomfited, she took a step forward. Lowering her head, she glanced back and saw a pair of leather shoes stained with dust.

As the train doors closed, that person fell towards her following the inertia brought on by the forward motion of the train.

She frowned and squeezed a few steps to the side, changing her position.

A few seconds later, that person actually followed her there.

Looking back, she saw that it was an ordinary middle-aged man with a briefcase. When he noticed that she was looking at him, he even put on a confused expression.

She took a few more steps to the side which just happened to be the area near the train door that was filled with people. It was crowded and difficult to move.

From the reflection of the window, Qiao Li could see that the man also squeezed through the crowd and approached her once again.

The front was so crowded that she couldn’t move at all. She could only watch as the man got closer and closer to her.

The heat she had been expecting to feel did not press against her, and she smelled a clean and refreshing scent emanating from the side.

She raised her head and glanced towards the reflection on the window, catching sight of a boy wearing a white T-shirt standing beside her and separating her from the man.

He was very close to her, but even in the midst of the bustling crowd, he always managed to keep a respectable distance away from her. She could see that his hand which was holding the handle was constantly exerting force in order to avoid getting squeezed over.

She only reached up to his shoulders, and was able to see his side profile only after raising her head.

His jawline was neat and clean. He was fair skinned and had a defined and handsome face with a straight nose bridge. His Adam’s apple was distinct, and moved lightly as he tilted his head.

Qiao Li wanted to thank him but she had to give up upon seeing the AirPods in his ears.

After the train went past a few more stops, Qiao Li noticed that the creepy man had gotten off the train, but the boy next to her was still protecting her. His shoulder was bumped against several times as people went in and out, but he did not get close to her, even once.

Soon, the train arrived at her destination, and Qiao Li got off the train along with a stream of people.

Qiao Li did not want to go back home so soon after leaving the train station. Hence, she decided to go to the convenience store next to the station to buy a few cans of beer and drink them at the river dam near her house.

Qiao Li entered the convenience store and took a couple of cans of beer from the fridge. Surprisingly, she unexpectedly ran into that boy again after turning at the corner.

Upon noticing that he was about to pay, Qiao Li hurriedly stepped forward and opened her online payment app before saying to the cashier, “This one’s on me.”

After she finished speaking, she smiled at the handsome boy and said, “Thank you for earlier.”

Feng Yi took out his phone and quickly sent a message to his close friend.

【abcd Yi1 fg】: Fuck! I saw my goddess on the train!

【The Great Sage, Heaven’s Equal】: Who?

【abcd Yi fg】: Do you remember the drop-dead gorgeous beauty I told you that I met by chance several times in the train during summer vacation a year ago? It’s her!

【The Great Sage, Heaven’s Equal】: Son, who would praise someone this way?

Feng Yi did not want to talk to Qi Han anymore. He lifted up his phone and secretly took a picture of Qiao Li’s silhouette.

There was one less regret in his life!

It was during the summer vacation of his junior year last year. At that time, he still didn’t have a phone, so he could not even secretly take a picture as a souvenir when he saw his goddess. Then, he never saw her on the train anymore. He had even felt sad for quite a while after Qi Han told him that the city was so densely populated that he might never see her again for the rest of his life.

He still remembered the first time he had seen his goddess. She had donned professional attire back then as well, with black hair and red lips, her head slightly tilted to the side with her hair which was curled at the tips falling to the hollow part of her shoulder. For the first time he understood what was meant by ‘alluring from the depths of her being’, yet she also had an aura of girlish youthfulness, like a hibiscus coming out from clear water, clean and pure.

As if an arrow that had appeared out of thin air had shot through his heart, he could feel that his heart was beating so fast that he had to cover his chest with his hands in order to prevent the people around him from hearing his heartbeat.

In the past, when his friends had squealed at those female celebrities and screamed things such as “wifey”, “my girlfriend is so pretty” and “goddess”, he had always scoffed at them, resulting in his friends attacking him in return and saying that he did not know how to appreciate their beauty.

Of course he knew how to appreciate it. The female celebrities were quite good-looking, but not to the point of making his heart flutter. He just simply felt that their noses were just noses and eyes were just eyes.

At that first meeting, he finally understood the taste of first love.

She hadn’t even looked at him, but he felt like he did not know where to place his hands and feet. He would also get excessively worried over whether his attire and hairstyle were inappropriate.

So much so that when her gaze swept over him, he would immediately turn away in shock.

He had always flaunted himself as being a brazen person, but he hadn’t known that his face could blush so fast. He felt so hot that he thought that he was about to emit smoke.

Later, she had gotten off the train, after walking past him. His whole body had been stiff as he screamed internally, “Save me! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh here she comes! OMG! She looks even better up close ahhhhhhhh! Am I nuts ahhhhhhhhhh? Chikan2! Yes, that kind of lewd electric train chikan in those Japanese manga, isn’t that what I am? I don’t want ah boooohoooo I’m not a pervert, I’m not a lewd chikan.”

After that, he would always take the train around this time of day to go find Qi Han to play games. He would put on an air of propriety and also get a haircut at the barbershop with his father’s gold card, hoping that he could see her again.

Although he had only seen her twice since then, he had still been extremely delighted and content. By the third time she passed by him to get off the train, he was already able to stop blushing.

I’m awesome, hehe.

He had thought proudly.

Then, he was unable to laugh anymore.

Because once school reopened, he would be in the last year of senior high school. He was terribly busy all day, and could not find the opportunity to go to the train in order to encounter her by chance. Even when he had taken the train during the winter vacation and monthly vacation, he had never met her.

Only god would know how heartbroken he felt, he just got spurned like this?!

He did not expect that God would hear his prayers and they would still have the opportunity to meet a year later.

She looks prettier.

Feng Yi furtively set the picture he had secretly taken as his lock screen picture and peeked at Qiao Li.

She looks tired wearing high heels. Sigh, she’s so pitiful, why is there no one giving up their seat for her— What the fuck?! Is that guy about to grope my goddess?!

Feng Yi was fuming. Watching Qiao Li repeatedly trying to squeeze to the front in order to avoid that man, he wished that he could instantly pin that man down to the ground and give him a beating.

He squeezed his way through the crowd and elbowed the man hard in his stomach as he passed by him. He then stood next to Qiao Li and tilted his head before glaring at the man.

The man was just about to get mad, but he could only choose to let it go upon seeing Feng Yi’s young and powerful 1.8-meters-tall stature.

Feng Yi stood next to Qiao Li, helping to keep the surging crowd away from her while creating a separate space for her. His heart was filled with contentment. He had gained too much today; not only did he get to take a picture of her, but this was also the first time he had gotten so close to her. How could life be filled with so much happiness?!

He was dizzy with happiness. Before he could even come back to senses, he followed Qiao Li down the train.

Only after leaving the station did he come back to his senses. He had no choice but to buy a popsicle at a nearby convenience store, trying to wake himself up.

Just as he took out his phone and prepared to pay, before he could even unlock his phone, a pleasant female voice sounded next to him, “This one’s on me.”

He subconsciously turned his head around, only to see that his goddess was within arm’s reach, smiling at him as she spoke, “Thank you for earlier.“

In an instant, peach blossoms, cherry blossoms, and winter jasmines, all the flowers in Feng Yi’s inner world bloomed.

He lowered his head and saw Qiao Li holding four cans of beer in her arms, while he was actually holding an extremely childish popsicle in his hand!

For a moment, he felt that life was meaningless. Before he could snap out of it, Qiao Li had already settled the bill and left with the beer.
