Chapter 7: Chapter 7

Nero and Alura both stepped off of the stone platform which made of part of the teleporter in Asterisk.

The sun had already began to set so the atmosphere was a bit calm. The pale tint of orange engulfed the clear sky, with a couple birds completing Mother nature’s artistic setting.

The area was noticeably less crowded than this morning.

"Hey kid you didn't die. Good for you"

It was the guard who spoke to Nero before he entered the dungeon.

Nero faced the guard with a half smile

"I guess that makes me an experienced adventurer now"

The guard laughed heartily at his response

"Don't get too cocky and become another dungeon causality"

The guard then paused and observed Alura who stood behind Nero

"Hey isn't that the slave girl Elik Rupaul came brought into the dungeon yesterday? He implied that she would be learning a lesson on obedience. I never thought that he would leave her alone in there"

Nero had a look of fake shock on his facce

"Is that so?"

He then motioned Alura to follow him, as they both walked away.

The guard gave him some advice

"Taking somebody else's slave will lead to issues very soon especially somebody as powerful as Elik Rupaul"

Nero slightly smiled while still walking away

"I'll keep that in mind"

As they made their way through the city, there were multiple people staring at Alura in disgust

"Why is that slave walking around freely?"

"Ew somebody get her a bath"

"Doesn't she look disgusting"

The comment made Alura feel uncomfortable to the point where she walked with her head down.

Nero noticed it when he side eyed her.

"Why are you affected by these comments when you're used to hearing them all the time?"

Alura still with her head down

"....I am used to it but it still hurts none the less"

A man in his 30's walked up to Nero then poked him in his chest with his index finger

"Yo buddy, keep that slave on a leash"

Nero looked down at the man's finger poking him, then slowly raised his head until both men made eye contact.

The man took a few steps back when he noticed Nero's glare.

"I will appreciate it if you don't ever touch me again"

"L-l-look man, just chill out. I was just joking"

Nero continued to glare at the man, his eyes seemly staring into the man's soul.

"A joke you say? I don't quite get it and she seems rather affected by your previous statement so I would like you to issue an apology to her"

"Me issue an apology to a slave? You're asking me to apologize to a slave?"

The man began to laugh but it was cut short by Nero

He placed his hand on the hilt of the his blade.

"I'm not asking you, I am telling you"

Their conversation started to draw a crowd of people

Alura pleaded with Nero to let it go

"It's ok Mr Nero, I'm fine really"

Some city guards noticed the situation then walked towards the trio

"Hey what's going on here?"

Nero quickly grabbed Alura's hand and left while the guards unenthusiastically pursued them then stopped after thirty seconds.

Five minutes of running later and Nero stood in front of a house.

The house belonging to Emi

Alura still panting after running asked "Who's house is this?"

Nero ignored her question and knocked on the wooden door

*Knock Kn-*

The door flew open mid way into the second knock

"YOU'RE LATE! YOU DON'T KNOW HOW LONG I WAITED!"

Emi was furious at the amount of time he spent in the dungeon but she was more relieved to see his face.

Nero forced a nervous smile when he saw her

"I got side tracked"

"YOU GOT SIDE TRACKED?!"

Emi wanted to strangle Nero for being so nonchalant but she calmed down after she noticed Alura.

"Eh who's this?"

Nero folded his arms 

"Don't ask me when she can introduce herself 

He then motioned her to speak

"Hi- I'm A-lura"

Emi observed her closely and her eyes opened wide as she noticed the slave branding on her right arm

After taking a deep breath, she calmed herself from flying off the deep end.

"You brought someone else's slave home? Are you insane? Do you know the penalty for that? You'll also become a slave"

Nero walked inside of the house and pulled Alura along.

"I would appreciate it if you scolded me in the warmness of your house instead of the cold outside, plus you'll disturb the neighbors you loud mouth" 

Emi's face was still furious as she closed the door.

"Can you fix her a bath and a change of clothes?"

Emi who was still visibly upset leaned as the front door she just closed.

"Explain everything now"

Nero handed her the bottle of Daimon Back Vapor toxin

"I'll explain everything later so just do what I asked please"

Emi sighed then agreed to it. Nero then turned to Alura.

"Go with Emi, she'll get you cleaned up. She's a nice person besides her angry appearance"

Alura nodded and followed Emi who said "I am angry all the time because you do stupid things"

After they left the room, Nero said to himself "I am lucky that she didn't flip out more than usual, she's probably tired due to a long day at work and didn't have the energy"

Nero then remembered the monster stone he got from the scrawler. Picking up the side bag, he reached into it and pulled out the small gold stone.

Around thirty minutes went by then Alura and Emi both entered the room Nero was in.

Alura was clad in a red knee length dress that Emi lent her

Nero walked in front of her and stared for a bit

"Is there something wrong Nero?" asked Emi 

Nero placed his hand on his chin and slightly tilted his head to the right

That caused Alura to be even more nervous than usual

"Now that she's cleaned up. I must say that she's quite attractive"

Alura's cheeks became red and she quickly stared downwards

"YOU DON'T JUST COME OUT AND SAY THAT!" shouted Emi who slightly punched his arm.

"Emi I need you to allow Alura to spend a few days here"

"You're out of here mind Nero"

Nero placed his hand on Emi's shoulder and looked directly in her eyes.

"I'll owe you big time for this"

Emi groaned and replied "Fine but I'll keep that in mind"

Nero gave her a pat on the shoulder

"Great Alura, you'll spend sometime with Emi. So you two please get along"

He then reached in his pocket and gave Emi the monster stone.

"Use this and the reward money from the quest I completed to buy her anything she may need"

"Wait you aren't staying with us?"

Nero stood at the front door with his hand on the handle

"There's things I have to do"

He then returned Emi's short sword and thanked her.

The door opened then closed and Nero was gone with the wind.

When both Alura and Emi looked for him out of the window, there was no trace.

"There he goes again" Emi complained 

"Is he always like that?"

Alura had a look of sadness when she asked that question

Emi smiled as if she remembered a fond memory

"Since I've known hum, he appears and disappears as he pleases. He is like a cat"

Alura giggled when she heard that

"A cat you say?"

"Yes a cat, he even sleeps on roof tops"

Alura now with a puzzled look on her face as she tried to picture it.

Emi noticed her and replied "Don't think about it too hard"

They both decided to take a seat and continue the discussion

"Don't you worry for him? Especially since he leaves so easily?"

Emi looked down and twiddled her thumbs

"I know how strong he is despite being a level 1 but every time he does something dangerous he goes off on his own as if he intends to die alone like some animal. I'm glad that he still comes back to me so that means my prayers must be working"

Alura forced a smile and looked away from Emi

"I still have no idea why he assisted me, he doesn't seem like the knight in shining armor type"

The conversation had become grim for the both of them

Emi raised her head and looked at Alura before asking a question she had no idea how to answer right now.

"What do you plan to do after this?"

Alura kept silent as she pondered on a answer.

Emi now standing

"You don't have to answer right now"

She walked towards the kitchen and lit up an iron stove

Placing a black pot over the orange flame, she began to prepare dinner for them.

Alura came into the kitchen quietly and stood there.

In a nervous manner she asked "Can I assist you...?

That surprised Emi a bit

"Oh so you know your way around the kitchen?"

"Yes.. It was one of the things I had to do for my master"

"I see"

Alura looked down at her feet

"So can I be of use to you? I would hate to stay here and not do anything"

Emi looked away from what she was doing

"Sure, grab a knife and cut this up"

Handing Alura several carrots who held a five inch knife with a wooden handle in her hand.

She began to slice the carrots in an unfocused manner

Alura was lost in thought over the question she was asked earlier and almost cut her finger with the sharp blade.

She let out a tiny scream when she noticed what she came close to doing.

Emi quickly spun around and caught the falling knife by the handle before it hit the floor.

"Before more careful, you almost nicked yourself"

She then handed Alura back the knife who apologized profusely.

Emi smiled at the embarrassed Alura.

"I know you're worried about the situation bit it will be fine" 

She wanted to believe her own words but she was unsure

Faking a smile at Alura, Emi began to stir the pot with a long wooden spoon.

Dinner was a silent event with both of them, not speaking a single word

Shortly after, they both decided that it was bed time.

"Here take this"

Emi gave a white blank to Alura who thanked her.

The night was quiet as both young women stared up at the ceiling.

With Emi thinking about Nero and Alura thinking about her future.
