The first thing Fang Daichuan saw when he woke up was the clock hanging in the corner of the house pointed below. He stared at it for a while, suddenly feeling intrigued.

The clock was very tall, about one meter seven*, with the dial on the top, caused anyone who was shorter than it to look up. The style of the clock fitted in very well which was similar to the overall style of this villa, with a sense of mystery.

The base below was thickly outlined with beautiful engraved lines forming a picture from top to bottom. Fang Daichuan tilted his head and looked at it for a long time, he could see that it was a scene of a dozen people eating around a long table. The center line of symmetry is the table. The one on the top has facial features, but the bottom is just a shadow figure. The base was originally not big, so from his position, the characters looked too small. Fang Daichuan didn’t bother to take a closer look.

(T/N: around 5.5 feet)

He put on his clothes, went to the bathroom to wash his face, brushed his teeth, and was about to style his hair using a hairspray when he remembered that it was no use since he was no longer in front of the camera. What’s the use of fiddling with his hair when he no longer had any audience to watch him? Then, he casually went out of his room.

At about seven o’clock, everyone gathered on the first floor one after another. Since last night, everyone hadn’t eaten anything, and was frightened all night. It was obvious that no one could sleep peacefully. As a result, when dawn came, they were muddle-headed and exhausted. Though on the surface, everyone still pretended to be full of energy in order not to show weakness, and a few girls even put on makeup to portray that.

When Fang Daichuan went downstairs, he whiffed a scent of the delicious smell of food. His stomach instantly growled loudly, and he covered his stomach in embarrassment. To be honest, except for the wine and the two oysters Li Sinian gave him last night, Fang Daichuan hadn’t eaten anything else. Combining the overall shock he experienced and the session where he had to carry the corpse during the day yesterday, he was too much in fear that almost all of his energy had been drained. As a result, he was so hungry that he could eat a horse right away.

“Morning!” Li Sinian saw Fang Daichuan standing on the stairs, raised his right eyebrow and greeted him. He was holding a white plate in his right hand, with gilded patterns on the edge, “Come on, help yourself breakfast.”

Fang Daichuan nodded in a daze, “Oh, okay.” Then, he quickly walked down.

The long table was already half full, and he was standing in the middle of the stairs. From this angle, some facial features were vividly visible, while for the others, he could only see the back of their heads. Fang Daichuan paused before continuing to walk down, frowning to himself.

‘I don’t know who took care of the body, but the hall is clean and tidy, spacious and bright. The translucent glass windows let the sunlight pour in while the crystal chandelier emits a soft light. It all feels cozy and filled with refreshing dawn. The thing that happened last night feels just like a dream.’

Immersed in his own thoughts, Fang Daichuan stood at the table and touched a chair, his expression dazed. There were still some black and red blood stains in the middle area of the back of the chair. Fang Daichuan rubbed his fingers, recalling the scene when someone died here yesterday, and he couldn’t recover for a while.

The atmosphere in the hall fell silent. Everyone seemed to have thought of the same thing, their expressions were uncomfortable and their heads lowered in silence.

Li Sinian brought another plate and said, “What are you doing in a daze? Go to the kitchen and serve the food.”

Fang Daichuan came to his senses and made his way into the kitchen.

When he arrived at the door of the kitchen, he met the woman who came here with her son. She was wearing a small apron and was holding a yellow ceramic double-ear pot. He could smell the fragrant aroma coming out of the pot from this distance. Fang Daichuan couldn’t bear the sight and he quickly grabbed the pot from her, speaking politely, “I’ll help, let me do it.”

As soon as he touched the handle of the pot, he almost jumped and threw it away since the handles were amazingly hot. He had no idea how she could carry it calmly. Having no choice, he endured the heat and ran out all the way to the table.

Du Wei saw Fang Daichuan rushing over in a hurry and stood up to help him pull the chair. He then helped put the pot in the middle of the long table. Behind Fang Daichuan, the mother came up and put more dishes on the other side of the long table.

Everyone took their seats.

Chen Hui looked at the dishes with a worried look and asked, “Didn’t you say that the water is not enough? How did you make it?”

Li Sinian placed the last white porcelain plate in front of Fang Daichuan and glanced at Chen Hui, replying her question, “I went out early in the morning and had a look around. Behind this villa is a hillside and there is a small vegetable garden on the gentle slope so, I picked some. The water in this villa is from the four-story water storage tower but I was afraid that it would not be clean for our daily necessities, so I went with Mr. Du and Mr. Liu to get fresh water from the small lake at the back of the hill. We don’t have to worry about our drinking water for now.”

“Mr. Liu?” Yang Song raised her eyebrows and glanced around, “Which one is Mr. Liu?”

The gentle middle-aged man smiled and spoke out, “I am Liu Xin.”

Li Sinian then pointed to the direction of the single mother. “This is Ms. Niu Xinyan, who deserves praise for her effort. Her cooking skill is awesome.”

Niu Xinyan smiled as her eyes squinted, giving out the friendly aura.

At that time, the old lady who had a somewhat strange expression as she glanced at Niu Dinyan, muttered out of nowhere, “The surname is cow*… I really don’t know what her parents were thinking to let her have Niu surname. If my husband’s surname is Niu, I will make my daughter follow my last name. What’s with the cow, horse, pig, sheep! Even if you have a nice name, it will be ruined with such a surname.”

(T/N: Yep [牛] means cow)

At this sudden criticism, no one knew how to react. Fang Daichuan licked his lips and silently glanced at Li Sinian.

Niu Xinyan’s face became cold hearing this, she put down the cup in her hand, took a deep breath, but said nothing. Instead, Yang Song was the one who retorted, “Well then, old lady, tell us how nice your name is.”

The old lady curled her lips as she proudly announced her name, “My surname is Song. It might not be a nice name, but at least, it’s not a first name.”

(T/N : Yes she is making fun of Yang Song’s name. Just reminder, Yang is the surname, Song is the first name)

Yang Song slammed her utensils on the table.

Everyone was silent for a while.

Ding Zihui who was sandwiched between the old lady, Niu Xinyan and the child, felt a little depressed. She glanced left and right before she turned her head and asked the child next to her, “Kid, what is your name?”

The child cutely leaned on his mother’s waist, and answered in a milky voice, “My name is Liu Xiquan and my nickname is Nan Nan.”

“Yeah and my name is Zhao Chu, are we done? Have you finished introducing yourself? Can we eat now?!” The man who patted the table last night increased his voice and frowned impatiently as he knocked the plate with a fork, making a noise.

Fang Daichuan also picked up his fork and persuaded everyone, “Then, let’s… have breakfast.”

Niu Xinyan’s stew was really good. It was canned beef stewed with baby bok choy, round lettuce and oiled wheat, with a few chillies cut into it. The reddish canned beef, the oily green leaves and a few chillies dotted in between, made the colour look appealing and the taste itself was delicious.

He estimated that Li Sinian must have been digging for oysters again in the morning. Everyone had half a plate of oyster meat on the white porcelain plate, cooked in boiling water, with some fresh soy sauce as the final touch on it.

‘It was a pity that there was no bread or rice’. Thinking about it, Fang Daichuan felt confused. This villa was somewhat strange. There were seasonings for Chinese food such as oil, salt, sauce and vinegar, but no chopsticks or rice or noodles. Fang Daichuan awkwardly poked a piece of mussel with his fork, dipped it in soy sauce and stuffed it into his mouth.

“This beef tastes really good.” Liu Xin picked up a piece of the meat, which was dyed red and had a few layers of light honey-coloured tendons in it. On the tongue, the meat was tender and chewy.

Old lady Song huffed and complained, “It’s all coloured, you can’t tell how many chemical additives have been put into this can or how many preservatives, they are all carcinogenic. You are just flogging a dead horse*, it’s better to just stew the veggies instead.”

“If you don’t like it, then don’t eat!” Yang Song shouted, lifted her chin and slammed her fork.

Facing towards the old lady Song, she glared at the other party, “Why don’t you get up early and cook tomorrow then? You are complaining about cancer when you don’t even know if you will live until tomorrow, your word is a fart itself!”

The old lady’s face drooped instantly and she was angry, “How dare you! How did your parents teach you? No education at all!”

It was as if she got poked at her sore spot, Yang Song was enraged. She raised her hand and splashed the hot tea in the cup directly onto the opponent’s face.

“I warn you,” Yang Song pointed to the old lady’s stunned face, “Leave my parents alone! My dad died a long time ago but he was still much better than you, who only knows how to complain for this world and probably will die without a grave!”

The old lady wiped her face and stood up with a slam. Her fingers were trembling and she screamed, “It’s you who will die first!”

Seeing that the situation was spiraling into no good, Fang Daichuan quickly swallowed the oyster in his mouth, stood up and tried to defuse the situation, “Oh well, it’s time to eat, just sit down, we can have a friendly conversation!”

“Yes, everyone should sit down quickly. There is no point of fighting like this.” Ding Zihui also frowned and stood up, softly persuading.

At this time, Boss Du stuffed a large mouthful of meat into his mouth, sneered and wiped his mouth with the napkin from the corner of the table, “Friendly? Do you think there’s a friend in this room? There are still several wolves hidden in the room, either you die or I live. What a joke!”

“Can you let people eat?!!!” Zhao Chu rolled his eyes and shouted.

“Who stops you from eating?!” Yang Song turned her head and targeted at Zhao Chu this time, “Is it me who didn’t let you eat?! This is the food that others painstakingly made, yet she said it is carcinogenic, do you think it is okay for her to act as she pleases?!”

Fang Daichuan was already sweating profusely in the middle of these chaos, “Oh, come on, just calm down!”

He looked back at Li Sinian, hoping that Li Sinian could help with the situation, but he saw Li Sinian slowly eating, without saying a word or participating in. He glanced at both sides of the long table and swallowed the food in his mouth. After that, he picked up the teacup and took a sip of tea.

Suddenly, there was a sound of something huge and metal like thing crashing on the second floor. The sound was louder than any words, everyone instantly went quiet. They looked at each other, then looked up to the second floor.

“It seems to be the sound of the clock in the bedroom,” Li Sinian frowned and muttered. “It’s eight o’clock.”

As soon as his voice fell, the machine at the end of the hall turned on automatically, and the screen emitted a soft blue light. The familiar electronic voice came out from the loudspeaker in the corner of the room. With that sound having formed a terrifying conditional reflex in everyone’s hearts previously, everyone’s hearts started to tremble uncontrollably.

Fang Daichuan clenched his fist.

“Congratulations to all the players for surviving to the second day. Now, all the surviving players should go forward to swipe their fingerprints and ID cards in turn. We will then start the voting.”

Fang Daichuan didn’t know if it was his misconception, but there seemed to be a dangerous smile in that inorganic magnetic voice.
