“I know everything.” The little boy said, smiling with eyes wide open, and began to sing a nursery rhyme.

“Who killed the robin? The robin died on the island.

The wolf killed the robin; the sparrow flapped its wings and sang.

The wolf kills with venom; the robin dies, eyes wide open.”

There was a smell of sea drifting from the large floor-to-ceiling glass windows and the sunlight shone through, casting an ominous shadow on the empty seats, faintly moving up and down. The child’s voice was very clear and crisp, the tune gentle and detailed, but the lyrics were far more terrifying than the original mother goose nursery rhyme*. Listening to the eerie nursery rhyme, everyone  remained completely still as though they had been enthralled by a spell. Fang Daichuan stared at an empty space, clenched his right hand, and swallowed. Li Sinian didn’t move. His eyes flitted around observing everyone’s faces, then he reached out from under the table and lightly patted Fang Daichuan’s right hand, telling him not to act rashly.

There was an unusual silence in the room, and only breathing could be heard.

A sudden gust of wind blew in from the open window. The curtains were violently blown up, and the tassels were soaked in moisture like wet strands of a woman’s long hair. They touched Fang Daichuan’s back, causing the hair on the back of his neck to rise up.

The eerie nursery rhyme continued. The little boy stared straight at the empty chair with a innocent smile hanging from the corner of his mouth:

“Who saw the robin dead? The little boy opened his eyes.

I saw the sparrow kill it; it died with eyes wide open.”

“Enough! Stop singing! Stop trying to scare people!” Yang Song slammed the teacup in her hand into the table.

The boy turned his head, lowered it, and raised his eyes to stare at Yang Song. He raised one corner of his lips and sang with his eyes fixed on her:

“Where’s the robin’s blood? The murderer is still looking around.

The boy drank twelve drops of blood, and one drop was on the table. “

Yang Song was so angry that she swept away the cups and plates on the table in front of her, pointed to Niu Xinyan and said, “Don’t let your son sing, do you hear me?!”

“What to do now that the robin is dead? The birds are standing by the grave.

The sparrow opened its wings and sang; it was my turn to die next. “

Niu Xinyan smiled bitterly and pulled the boy into her arms. She placed a candy in his palm, and coaxed: “Nan Nan, please, stop singing. Good Nan Nan, stop singing.”

The boy played with candy as he kept on singing. There was an artificial innocence in his eyes, as if an adult was being imprisoned in the body of a child.

He continued singing:

“Who is after the sparrow? They line up together…”

Slap– the little boy’s voice finally stopped.

Instantly, everyone came back to their senses. Fang Daichuan shuddered and stared. Ding Zihui still had one hand raised in the air, her chest undulating. There was an empty seat between her and the child; she had jumped into the empty seat and slapped the child in the face. Everyone looked at each other in astonishment, and for a few moments were lost in thought. Fang Daichuan turned his head and looked over in amazement, shocked by the sudden display of violence from this cute girl.

A look of disbelief flashed across Yang Song’s face.

Niu Xinyan was stupefied. She looked down at the bright red fingerprints on the child’s face, then looked up at Ding Zihui, her lips trembling, and she couldn’t say a word.

Fang Daichuan stood up, afraid everyone would start to fight.

The boy curled his lips and burst into tears. “Why did you hit my son?” Niu Xinyan questioned aggressively while hiding the boy behind her.

Fang Daichuan also hurriedly pulled Ding Zihui behind her. Unexpectedly, Ding Zihui didn’t respond. She didn’t even defend herself. She just trembled twice, leaned on Fang Daichuan’s back and started crying. When Niu Xinyan saw this, she couldn’t say anything more. Fang Daichuan also froze up on the spot.

For a while, only Ding Zihui’s and the boy’s crying could be heard in the hall.

“I’m really, really scared of him,” Ding Zihui was sobbing. She hiccuped from time to time as she spoke and the tears kept gushing out. The back of Fang Daichuan’s T-shirt quickly soaked. “Yesterday, I was attacked at night and then I saw someone dead. I was so scared that I didn’t sleep well. But even so, he frightened us like this. If you can’t discipline your son, I will discipline him for you!”

Fang Daichuan hurriedly tugged her away to sit down: “Okay, no need to get angry at the children. Sit down and have a cup of tea.” As he was saying  this, Li Sinian had already poured the tea and handed it over without a word. Ding Zihui wiped her face clean with a silk napkin, thanked him, and sobbed quietly while holding the teacup.

Niu Xinyan also made a small talk to her son: “Don’t fight with other people, Nan Nan, my good Nan Nan, mother is afraid.” For some reason, Fang Daichuan felt Niu Xinyan’s tone was weird. Yes, while it was hard to say it was wholly unnatural, he’d never heard a mother talk to her son in such a tone. He turned his head, glancing at the strange mother and son pair, and saw the boy sitting back pouting. Just when Fang Daichuan thought he must’ve been thinking too much, he clearly saw the moment the child sat down, he turned his head towards Ding Zihui and gave her a strange smile.

Fang Daichuan saw from his peripheral vision that Ding Zihui’s arm on the table trembled.

The machine in the corner of the room urged: “Please make statements in turn! Please make statements in turn!”

“It’s me, my turn.” After calming down for a while, Ding Zihui whispered: “My statement is the same as Yang Song’s. I was attacked last night and I didn’t have time to touch the deceased at all.”

After Ding Zihui was Fang Daichuan.

Fang Daichuan glanced at Li Sinian and said cautiously: “I’m completely clueless. Last night, Li Sinian and I went to the fourth floor to check the situation and found a box of food. We made a loud noise. Ding Zihui, Yang Song, Du Wei, Chen Hui, boss Du and the deceased came together to see. We went back to the first floor with our things and talked for a while on the first floor. At that time, we were all sitting far away from each other, and murder was impossible. I still think the half an hour between the attack on Sister Ding and the time we returned to the first floor was the period the murderer was most likely to have acted. I guaranteed Li Sinian didn’t do it. We’ve been together the whole time.”

Li Sinian was sitting at the bottom*, right next to Fang Daichuan. He looked around and voiced out his analysis: “From the time of Ding Zihui’s attack to the time everyone gathered on the first floor, Yang Song was the first to run up, Chen Hui also went up before the deceased, then the rest followed him up. The three girls went back to the hall on the first floor together, so the suspicion towards them can be fully eliminated.”

(T/N: In order to make things easier (to imagine) I have made a seat arrangement. Remember in chapter 4 it is already said that the long table originally has 16 seats with 14 seats facing each other and 2 on top and bottom. I put the picture on bottom since it is pretty big)

“Fang Daichuan went to the second floor before the deceased, and so did Du Wei, but the problem with these two people was that after the three girls went downstairs, their respective whereabouts were unclear. During this time, they had the opportunity to attack the deceased. But because Fang Daichuan had been with me the whole time from my perspective, he is 100% innocent.”

“Since boss Du and I went upstairs with the deceased we are naturally suspicious because we had the opportunity. The other people on the second floor can’t be ruled out, they also had an opportunity when the deceased was in his room on the second floor. Which is why I suggest a blind voting. Adding to that, someone like Fang Daichuan with an IQ of 50 and a vitality of 150, I beg everyone to keep him alive. If something really happens, he can defend everyone, that’s it.”

After Li Sinian was Du Wei: “I have nothing to say, it is not me. After I went upstairs, I went to the second floor and knocked on the door to wake everyone up. After that, I went down to the first floor. You can ask the three girls. I came down fast, so it can’t be me.”

Chen Hui hurriedly nodded: “Du Wei came down quickly to accompany us. It’s not him. You have to believe him. As for me, I am just as Li Sinian said, it’s definitely not me. Both of us don’t know anything, it is the truth. Anyone who wants more clarification, please come forward.”

Fang Daichuan suddenly remembered something when he heard this. He turned his head and stared at Li Sinian, then whispered into his ear, “Did you check anyone last night?”

Li Sinian’s head didn’t move, only his eyes flitted over, and he laughed in a low voice. “Do you remember when I told you to go out with me? Before I came back, I stopped by the rooms.”

“Fuck! So fast?” Fang Daichuan recalled*, stunned. He remembered that Li Sinian had asked him to go out and at that time he had not opened the box. When he returned from the cigarette break, Li Sinian had already opened the box. Unexpectedly, while he was having a cigarette break, Li Sinian not only checked his own role and bound his fingerprint to the card, he also took the time to check someone’s role?! Not only is he fast, he’s also decisive. Fang Daichuan’s mouth opened and closed: “Who did you check? Why didn’t you tell me?!”

(T/N: Happen on chapter 6 and continue to chapter 7)

Li Sinian glanced at him, smiling: “Since you really want to know, I will tell you, but don’t get angry at me.”

Fang Daichuan’s face was full of black question marks, “Why would I? Who are you check?”

Li Sinian raised his lips and smiled, he glanced at him with affection in his eyes, held a fist against his mouth and coughed.

“?” Fang Daichuan didn’t react at all, “Who?”

“Tsk,” Li Sinian frowned, with an ‘are you stupid’ expression on his face, and whispered a word, “You.”

“Me?!” Fang Daichuan stared at him incredulously, stretched out his right hand from under the table while no one was paying attention, pinched Li Sinian’s thigh, and huffed angrily, “You checked me?! Then why were you laughing at me when I couldn’t guess your identity?! I fucking thought you were so awesome you could guess my identity purely through your inductive reasoning. But it turns out you checked me. What qualifications did you have to laugh at me last night?!”

Li Sinian suppressed the corners of his mouth firmly, and was forced to endure the pain and the desire to laugh. For a while, the expression on his face was extremely strange. He patted Fang Daichuan’s right hand, lowered his head and rebuked with a smile, “Don’t make trouble.”

(T/N: If you want to listen to the creepy song, head to the audio drama. Also, Liu Xiquan is at least 13 years old just clarification, so yep, 13 years old singing a creepy nursery rhyme…yep, still creepy)
