(T/N: Someone is dead since you know, it is voting time. But since the description are just a couple lines I don’t think it is necessary to give warning but anyway, from now on even if someone die unless I think it is necessary I won’t give a warning)
“Voting is over. Please go back to your original seats and sit down.” The machine instructed in a mechanical voice.
Fang Daichuan was anxious. He lowered his head and cut a piece of cold mussel meat with his dining knife but did not eat, only pushed it around the plate.
“I voted for you,” The little boy gloated, grinning at Ding Zihui. “You’re going to die.” Ding Zihui stared at the boy’s face, her face pale, her chest frantically moving up and down.
“Voting is over. A total of twelve votes were cast, with twelve valid votes. The safe players with zero votes are,” the machine paused slightly before continuing, “Yang Song, Liu Xiquan, Fang Daichuan, Du Wei, Chen Hui, Chen Xin*. Congratulations on getting zero votes.”
(T/N: So the raw are [陈新] and the Chen is the same as Chen on Chen Hui so I am sure author are mistyping this since I have check but after this the machine always use Liu Xin and not Chen Xin so here, just a notes.)
When Fang Daichuan heard his name, he let out a sigh of relief, but then his heart squeezed tightly—he hadn’t heard Li Sinian’s name. He turned to look at Li Sinian, his right hand clenched into a fist, and his palms breaking into a cold sweat. Li Sinian turned his head and smiled at him, whispered, “Don’t worry, if I didn’t guess wrong, I only got one vote.”
How’d he fucking figure that out?! In his heart, Fang Daichuan frantically hoped Li Sinian wasn’t only showing off this time, but his brain couldn’t fully believe that what Li Sinian just said was true. These conflicting thoughts made him feel like he was choking on his heart. The mussel meat he ate early in the morning seemed to have turned alive, tumbling and stirring inside his stomach. He could feel sweat slipping down from his temples.
“Players whose names have not been announced, please stand up and take a step forward,” the machine commanded.
The four sniper rifles in the corners of the room were on standby.
Li Sinian smiled, patted Fang Daichuan on the shoulder, and became the first to stand in the middle of the hall. Fang Daichuan quickly stood up and wanted to pull him back. Li Sinian touched his chin, gestured at the table in front of him, frowned and said, “Sit down.” Fang Daichuan was breathing heavily. He sweeped a gaze at the rest of the players and reluctantly sat.
Ding Zihui and Niu Xinyan’s reactions were more dramatic. The two looked around blankly, thinking the machine must’ve been wrong, but both old lady Song and Zhao Chu both stood up, so eventually they too had to stand up amid the urging of the machine. Yang Song’s eyes were wide open when she asked Ding Zihui, “Did you really vote for yourself?!”
With tears in her eyes, Ding Zihui replied in grief, “I didn’t!” She suddenly recovered, stared bitterly at the boy hiding beside her, and accused loudly, “Why did you vote for me?!”
The boy‘s expression went blank for about three seconds. He glanced at his mother subconsciously, then turned his head, and sneered at Ding Zihui. “I can vote for whoever I want. Do you have a problem with that?!”
The people who were voted for stood in the middle of the hall as though it was a public execution. Everyone was facing each other. In a sense, it was a public execution. Everyone’s eyes wandered, kept flitting around and dodging others’ gazes. Li Sinian’s eyes drifted across everyone, but Fang Daichuan’s gaze was fixed solely on him.
Zhao Chu glared at the people who were sitting, gritted his teeth and cursed, “Who voted for me? Don’t let me find you! I will fucking end you!”
“How can any of you vote for me when you can for anyone else?” Niu Xinyan lowered her head and said in a low voice, “How can I kill someone when I have a child with me? Even if I’m not a good person, I won’t kill in front of my child. The child is innocent.”
With all due respect, Fang Daichuan threw an icy look at the little boy who was smiling maliciously on the side, and said in his heart, that word cannot be used to describe your child at all. He’s almost given me pedephobia. If in the future I don’t want children, it will be because I’ve been scared silly by your demon of a child.
(PR/N: Nah it’ll be bc you decided to elope with Sinian’er qwq)
Old lady Song sneered beside her, “I don’t know who voted for you but you voted for me, didn’t you?”
Niu Xinyan turned her head and hesitated. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Du Chaosheng and Li Sinian did not speak. They looked at each other and exchanged meaningful glances.
The machine continued, “Among these players; Song Xinran, Zhao Chu, Niu Xinyan, Ding Zihui, Li Sinian, Du Chaosheng, there are players who only got one vote. They are; Song Xinran, Niu Xinyan, Ding Zihui , Li Sinian. These four players, please return to your seats.”
When Li Sinian returned to his seat, he smiled at Fang Daichuan. “How was it? I guessed it right, didn’t I?”
Fang Daichuan’s heart instantly calmed down and he returned the smile, but turned away to stare at Ding Zihui anxiously.
Ding Zihui had already decided it was the little boy who voted for her. She drew a cross on herself, murmured a short prayer, then glared at the child fiercely.
The little boy nestled into his mother’s arms and said nothing.
In the end, only Du Chaosheng and Zhao Chu were left standing. Fang Daichuan felt a little nervous. He suspected Du Chaosheng was the wolf, but had decided to follow Li Sinian’s decision and voted for Zhao Chu in the end. Fang Daichuan pricked up his ears and waited quietly for the final announcement. The remaining eleven people in the room also followed suit one after another, waiting for the final sentence.
Boss Du still looked calm and collected. His eyes were clear of all emotion but Fang Daichuan intuitively knew, based on his experience of mixing in the entertainment industry, that there must be something simmering inside.
“Between Zhao Chu and Du Chaosheng, the one who got higher votes, five votes, was—” The machine droned on, and Fang Daichuan pulled the fabric of his trousers.
“Zhao Chu.”
As soon as the name was announced, a sniper rifle from one of the corners fired with a bang. Boss Du slightly curled his lips.
A wisp of light blue smoke wafted out of the muzzle, Zhao Chu’s body fell like a sack that was roughly thrown into a corner. Half a minute later, blood gradually seeped out, spreading out in a pool at Boss Du’s feet.
Boss Du squatted down, looked at the corpse and sighed, then wiped his bloodied soles on the clean carpet.
Fang Daichuan averted his gaze and closed his eyes.
After seeing so much blood and death, everyone had become a little numb. This time even Ding Zihui did not cry. The girl sat at the table, motionless, her expression still, like a sculpture that could only roll its eyes. “All… go back,” she said in a gloomy voice, “Today is over…”
Is it over? Fang Daichuan daren’t be so sure. He stared at the muzzle hanging behind the corpse for a while, and shuddered. All the hairs on his body were standing up when he came back to his senses.
The sniper rifles retracted back.
“Congratulations to the surviving players. I wish you all a happy game,” the machine responded to Fang Daichuan’s thoughts politely.
Fang Daichuan stood up abruptly. He was trembling, his face flushed. The tight feeling in his chest could not be repressed anymore, he could only let it out. His breath felt so hot it burned his nose. Without warning, he picked up a chair and slammed it into a corner.
The ceiling on the first floor was raised so high that Fang Daichuan couldn’t reach it even when he stood on the chair. He jumped down angrily, took a few quick breaths, turned around and kicked the chair over. The chair inlaid with intricate bronze flowers bounced four or five times, before smashing against the brickwork in the corner, scattering all over the floor. Like the skeleton of a dead man.
Li Sinian lowered his head and sighed softly. He walked over and grabbed Fang Daichuan’s shoulders. “Come, let’s go upstairs.”
“I killed him.” Fang Daichuan pushed Li Sinian away and raised his head, looking stubbornly at Li Sinian. “I am an accomplice.”
“Fang Daichuan!” Li Sinian shouted, “Come with me!”
“What’s the difference between us doing this and murderers?” Fang Daichuan looked around at everyone’s faces. “Because we didn’t shoot them ourselves, we comfort ourselves that their deaths have nothing to do with us? Because everyone voted and the minority can only bend towards the majority’s will, it’s perfectly excusable to lynch people, is that right?!”
Li Sinian was so frightened to hear this that he couldn’t even cover Fang Daichuan’s mouth. He hurriedly slapped Fang Daichuan’s across his face.
The crisp sound reverberated in the room. Yang Song raised her head, her eyes widening.
Fang Daichuan turned his face downwards. Li Sinian had wanted to say something, but he was frozen on the spot—Fang Daichuan’s face was pale, but his eyes were bloodshot. Li Sinian couldn’t help but grasp the man’s right hand. He rubbed his fingers, the wetness he felt between them making his heart ache.
“Come up with me.” Li Sinian softened his voice and leaned into Fang Daichuan’s ear. His voice cracked. “Chuan’er-ge, let’s go up and talk, please…”
Fang Daichuan raised his head and looked at Li Sinian with teary eyes. The eyes that stared back at him were imploring. The two faced each other for some time before Fang Daichuan silently followed Li Sinian upstairs.
Ding Zihui hesitated for a moment before pushing the chair away and standing up to head upstairs after the two of them.
Yang Song soon did the same, then the little couple, and then the rest. Everyone ambled upstairs in complete silence.
“Where is your ID card?” Li Sinian stood outside Fang Daichuan’s room, gazing worriedly at the other’s lifeless face. Fang Daichuan finally reacted and began to dig into his pockets. Li Sinian noticed that his fingers were shaking so badly his fingers slipped past the openings several times.
Li Sinian sighed, slipped out the ID card for the other man, swiped it, and headed in. Fang Daichuan silently trailed after him.
By this time, everyone had already swiped their cards to enter their own rooms, leaving only the mother and son pair who came up last.
“Do you know who I voted for today?” When Fang Daichuan was about to shut the door, he overheard the childish voice. He was still in shock and couldn’t think. The words just passed through his ears without him processing it. However, at that moment, Fang Daichuan happened to remember the child’s evil antics. He slowed the closing door, and finally left a small opening.
He heard Niu Xinyan trying to open her own door. Her reaction seemed a little slow. She didn’t immediately respond to what her son had said. It was only after she’d pushed the door open that she indulged in her son’s question, “Who did you vote for?”
The child’s innocent voice floated through the gap. He looked up at his mother and replied with a smile, “I voted for you, mother!”
(T/N: Someone is dead, so here is the new image. I also put the picture of the first vote so it makes things easier for curious people like me. Now the big question, who voted for who?)
