Peter

Finn was sitting in front of the tent. Colorful panels of fabric and light leather lay spread out in front of him. Marko sat next to him and threw a ball of wool into the air. He sang a self-composed song about a ball of wool that was swallowed by a beaver. Peter listened to him frowning as he looked at the fabric.

"And? What color do you like?", asked Finn. He was in an unusually bad mood.

"All of them!" Peter couldn't decide. He wanted a new dress. Strictly speaking, a robe, not a simple dress. Why? He felt like it. Finn already had some assignments, including many changes, but he promised to find time for Peter's robe.

"All of them?" Finn raised his eyebrows. "How do you imagine that? All! I thought it should be solemn..."

Peter sighed and sat down next to him. He let his fingers glide over a red, slightly shimmering fabric. "I can't decide. It should be extravagant. Something special! An eye-catcher! This red? Or better midnight blue?"

"Eventually, you will have to decide", Finn grumbled.

"Why are you in such a bad mood?"

"Because the girls didn't take him. He misses Juli!" Marko grinned. "Flordelis didn't want to take him with them because he's clearly not a girl. I suggested he could wear a skirt, but Flordelis didn't want to accept that. He's been sulking ever since!" Marko kissed Finn's cheek. "And he's such a cute grumpy!"

Finn snorted and looked at Peter. "How about you try a new color? Yellow? Or cream?"

"Yellow?" Yellow reminded him of Babette. Of a terrible honey-yellow suit. Peter shook his head. "No. No yellow. But I could make friends with cream! A cream robe..."

"For me?" Fiete came around the tent. "Do you want to be even more beautiful for me, Peter? My favorite color is forest green. You would look stunning in green!"

Peter sighed. "I always look stunning."

"That was a real failure!", they heard Flordeli's voice. The young centaur sounded annoyed.

"I'll have a look", Fiete murmured and hurried away.

Fiete

"Well, children? Did you have fun? You're back earlier than expected."  Fiete looked at the three. Flordelis was downright upset. Julia looked frightened and Josef sat on her shoulders as a cat. He had put on his ears. "Or probably not. What happened?"

"I tell Finja what happened. See you there!" Flordelis squeezed Julia briefly, then she hurried away.

Julia sighed. "The village was invaded by centaurs. This was the third raid this month. But this time parts of the village were destroyed. Before that, it was only small thefts. Which tribe might that have been? This tribe, the ‘Doves of Peace’, is very peaceful. But otherwise? The ‘Pale Redbacks’? Or the ‘Steppe Walkers’? I don't know... There are seven tribes, right? This one is the smallest. But Flordelis said that the majority are neutral towards refugees..."

Doves of Peace... How did the centaurs come up with this idea? Fiete grinned.

"That's not funny, Fiete!", grumbled Julia immediately. Josef hissed softly.

"I guess you're right. But let that be the concern of the centaurs. Don't you think?" Fiete stroked her long, brown hair. "We are guests here." Your place is on a throne, my little one. Not in the steppe.

"And if there are problems because of us?"

Fiete grinned and kissed her cheek. "With two dragons nearby? No. You are safe. The other tribes will not dare to cause problems. Let's go to the tent, yes? I think I even have a few berries! And Peter is hiding chocolate somewhere... Which he bought in one of the villages when he actually left our little refuge."

"Chocolate? That sounds good."

Agathe

Gustav, Leonora, and their four mortal children were visiting. They had all made themselves comfortable in the castle garden with tea, cakes, and pastries. The triplets sat dutifully on their chairs and ate biscuits. Friedrich grimaced, making the three laugh. Nahla sat on Leonora's lap and commented on everything she saw. "There!", she squeaked happily.

"Yes, honey. There's cake", Leonora replied.

"And how is Babette?", asked Agathe, looking at her old friend.

Gustav smiled. "Oh! Wonderful. Her two eldest are lively children. The small Syltje is enchanting. A silent child. And soon comes the fourth. She became pregnant again a month after giving birth. Felix is very excited. He's hoping for another boy."

"This is wonderful news!" Agathe nodded appreciatively. "And she's satisfied?"

"As satisfied as a young mother can be with two toddlers and one infant. Yes. She now has two new nannies. Your children's nanny, Sophie, worked for Babette for a while. But she has now retired. A pity. She is an excellent nanny, but the little ones demanded a lot from her. Fritz told me that Sophie quit after just one month."

"Sophie?" Agathe grimaced and grabbed a cookie. "Well. She is very old. The pension will be the best for her."

"Certainly! And Torsten? Do he and Annemarie already have kids? Little half-vampires?" Gustav grinned. "That has to be exciting. Half-vampires as children. All the blood would make me uncomfortable..."

"Yes, yes. Two children." Agathe looked at her husband. "Rosina is celebrating her first birthday soon and Rayk is two now. Correct? Friedrich?"

Her husband looked at her. "Oh! Yes. We are invited to Rosina's birthday. Rayk turns three next summer. Hard to believe, but now I feel old. As a grandfather!"

"I know what you mean!", agreed Gustav. "But Babette will always be my little one. Does Fritz have children?"

"No!", replied Agathe firmly.

"And Cleo?", asked Leonora. "Do she and Charlotte want to adopt?"

I want their divorce! "Not that I know."

"What a pity." Leonora tickled Nahla's feet. The little girl laughed happily.

"Mom! I'd like to have more cookies!", Gerhard spoke up and pointed to the cookie tin that stood in the middle of the table.

"Me too! Me too!", cried Bernadette. "May I?" Gundula only pointed to the can. Unlike her siblings, she spoke only when she felt it was necessary.

Gustav handed his children the biscuits. Meanwhile, a servant brought Friedrich a letter. Agathe watched as Friedrich looked at the sender and chewed nervously on his lower lip.

"From whom is the letter?", asked Agathe immediately.

"Oh. From a friend! You excuse me?" He got up and left the tea party. Agathe looked after him. From a friend?  But you don't have to leave the table for that... Why are you nervous?

Julia

"They attacked the village!" Finn lay in his bed and looked at Julia with big, frightened eyes. Next door, Marko and Leopold were playing a card game. Their laughter came through the forehand.

"Yes. Even the wall was damaged. It was terrible!" Julia sighed. She was sitting on her bed wrapped in her blanket. Fiete and Josef lay purring on her lap as fluffy cats. By now it was late. They had already eaten dinner.

"Do you think there will be more attacks? Do you think we will be attacked?"

"I hope not." Julia stroked Josef's soft fur. Immediately Fiete slid under her hand and grumbled invitingly. Smiling, she petted him behind the ears. "Flordelis told the elder about it. I don't know what happens next. If anything happens. I don't know, Finn. According to Kalle, other tribes often attack humans. Especially in the swampland."

"Hm." Finn climbed out of his bed and took his blanket. Then he sat down with Julia and leaned against her. Julia put her arm around him and kissed his hair.

"I don't like that!" Finn yawned and lay down on her bed behind Julia.

"Finn! It's too cramped here!", she protested immediately.

"I know. But I want to sleep here."

"All right." Julia dropped Josef and Fiete off and made herself comfortable next to Finn. She pulled Josefine's bed back to hers so they had more space and she wouldn't accidentally hurt Finn in his sleep. Josef meowed and curled up next to her head. Fiete shoved himself under her arms.

"Good night, Juli", Finn murmured. Then he had already fallen asleep.
