Emmie

She had her own small room with a good bed, closet, shelf, and desk. She could see into the garden from a small window. Everything was still mostly empty, as Emmie had no possessions. Everything she owned was the clothes she was wearing when she arrived at the house and a servant's uniform that Paula had given her with the promise to buy her new clothes quickly. It was the same for Peyo.

Emmie's new life was strange.

She had spent several months in a cage. Dirty, with poor hygiene, and hardly enough food. Her clothes had been washed and lay in her new closet, but Emmie wasn't sure if she ever wanted to put on the simple tunic and light cloth trousers again. Slave clothing. The clothes they had all worn at the market. But she didn't want to part with them yet.

These clothes were a reminder of her suffering and all that she had lost. Her parents, her brother, and her best friend. Mads. She missed him terribly.

Would she ever see him again?

She had not been allowed to take any of her belongings to the market. She had been robbed of her identity. Now she was no longer Emmie, who once wanted to be the Alpha of her pack, no, she was just a wolf girl. No alpha wolf. Not a leader. Just a frightened girl in a big, foreign mansion.

Fritz, her owner, and Paula were nice. They gave her time to settle in and did not ask her to work. To serve. They did not demand this from the elf either. The two insisted that they saw neither Peyo nor Emmie as servants. The uniform spoke against it. Emmie didn't believe them.

There was a knock on her room door.

"Yes?", she exclaimed, and Peyo carefully opened the door.

"Hey... I... I didn't want to be alone", he whispered. He also wore the uniform of a servant, since he had not yet received any other clothes. Would they get new ones? "Can I stay with you for a while?"

"Sure." Emmie pointed to her bed, on which she had sat, and looked out the window. She rarely left her room. Peyo sat down next to her. He was thin. Much too thin. Not much more than skin and bones. Paula and Fritz did their best to change this quickly, but Peyo could hardly get anything down. "How are you?", she finally asked him.

"I don't know. And you?", he replied, looking around. "My room looks almost the same. I think our rooms used to be guest rooms. Do you think they're serious? That we are allowed to redesign the rooms? And that they buy us clothes? And other things?"

"Do you think they're lying?" Emmie thought so.

"I don't know. They are nice. And Loelia is cute, she reminds me of my little brother. And Nino is so tiny."

"Yes. Their kids are cute", Emmie agreed. "But don't you think it's strange? We were sold as slaves, but we don't have to work..."

"Or they wait a little longer." Peyo chewed nervously on his fingernails. His red wings fluttered a little. She thought he was cute, too. And he smelled good.

Emmie's nose liked how the shy, skinny elf smelled.

Juli

Marko's wolf's head lay on her lap and she petted his fur. Finn sat next to her, his head on her shoulder, and stroked Marko's head as well. Marko muttered contentedly. They had made themselves comfortable in the boys' room.

"So, Fiete and Josefine are really your pets?", asked Finn after some time. "Leopold told us what happened."

"No. But he and Josefine more than surprised me."

"Marko thinks it's cool!" Finn told her. His boyfriend snorted in agreement. "He said you aren’t just a tough witch now, no, you're a hard, and badass witch with FIRE now!"

"For heaven's sake!" Julia laughed and ruffled Marko behind his ears. "I'm anything but tough! And theoretically, I should be able to manipulate fire. I've never tried that before."

"Are you okay with it?" Finn looked at her worriedly.

"Being tough, hard, and badass?"

"No! Not with that! With the fact that two dragons are bound to you. Not like us, but... They didn't ask you either." It was already late. Slowly it became dark in the tent.

"Pfff!" Julia laughed. "Well. They had no choice. Their magic should have asked for permission! And not just me. But apparently, it's such a dragon thing." Marko licked her hand when the chance presented itself. Julia grimaced and ruffled his fur.

"You cuddle? Without me?" Leopold came to them and sat down behind Marko's large wolf body. "How mean. Group cuddling without me!" He kissed Julia's cheek.

Marko had rolled onto his back so that Julia could pet his belly. Amused, she did him the favor. "According to Marko, I'm now a tough, hard, and badass witch with fire!", she told Leopold.

"Hard?" Leopold kissed her neck. "No. Very soft!"

Julia giggled while Finn quietly mocked the elf. At the same time, Marko transformed back and presented them with his naked front. "July may not be hard, but I am! I'm talking about my abs, of course, not my... You know."

"Marko!", they all protested, and Julia pulled her hand off his stomach. Julia nervously realized that truly only Marko's abs were 'hard'. She shook her head, looked away, and indignantly pushed Marko away from her.

The naked werewolf rolled his eyes laughing and looked for clothes. "You are so sensitive! All of you! I am a wolf. Nudity is nothing special!" As he got dressed, he winked at Finn, whose cheeks were more than just red.

Afterward, they talked for a while, Leopold pulling Julia onto his lap until she finally fell asleep.

That night, Julia had another nightmare. Someone had locked her in a cage. The key was hanging on a golden string, but she couldn't reach it. Leopold stood in front of the cage and stared at her. He did not respond to her pleas for help.

Julia woke up startled by the dream. Someone grumbled in protest. Still rigid with fright, she noticed the two cats lying on her bed. Josef looked at her worriedly and Fiete stretched purring. Sighing, Julia lay down again and stroked their soft fur. The two cats snuggled up next to her head.

Marlon

"You need something against dragons, my dear?" Marlon grinned. The Queen of Witches had asked him for another conversation in the palace garden. She apparently wanted to go into battle against a dragon. At least that's how it sounded to Marlon. Since he had found a dragon, albeit only a dead and emaciated dragon, he saw himself as an expert.

Agathe's husband was spending time with his grandchildren and, no doubt, with Coralie. The girl was almost inseparable from Rayk. Marlon chose not to talk to the queen about it. She already looked angry.

"Yes. I have to ask your dear parents afterward as well, but I thought I'd ask you first. The young ones sometimes have the better ideas."

That flattered him. Very much so. "We don't have big weapons."

"How disappointing."

"But we have a rope that can hold a dragon... And our swords and knives are made of very hard steel. We use different steel than the witches... But I don't know if our weapons could cut the skin of a dragon. I hope so, but I didn't try." He regretted that now.

"Yes. I've already heard about that."

"Once we're married, I can easily give you access to it." He winked at her.

The beautiful queen, he found her enchanting, gave him a sublime smile. It looked good on her. "I need a weapon against the dragons sooner rather than later. So, I guess, I'll have to negotiate it with your parents, my dear. But thank you very much. You helped me a lot. When do you plan to … dethrone … your parents?"

"When do you intend to get rid of your husband?"

She smiled again. "Soon."

"Soon." He nodded.

"And how much help do you need to carry out your plan? What exactly are you planning?"

Marlon smiled. "I'm still planning this. But I thought of poison. But vampires are immune to it... I heard you have one that makes every death look like a natural one?"

"We do. I'm also thinking about this one. And you want me to cast a spell on such a poison? So it can kill vampires?" The beautiful queen raised her eyebrows. "What's in it for me? If I risk so much for you?"

"No starving people and the prospect of more power." He winked at her.

"Power." Queen Agathe smiled. "Power is something I really appreciate. But your plan is still very vague. Annemarie and Torsten? And, of course, the details of our marriage of convenience. It's best to think about your plan. It's not mature yet!"

Marlon snorted angrily. "My sister won't be a problem!"

The queen put her hand on his cheek and smiled at him as if he were a small child. "My dear boy, you still have much to learn. And if our agreement is to take place, then I need assurances and an apology."

"An apology? For what?"

The queen squinted her eyes. "My daughter. Thank you for your help. I appreciate that. I will have a poison made for you. But you, my good boy, must let your plan mature. Otherwise, you will perish and I will deny any involvement. Let’s hope for a happy marriage of convenience!" And she went back to the castle. Marlon looked after her in surprise.

Let the plan mature?
