Agathe
The fine powder shimmered in the inconspicuous metal can. Agathe smiled.
Her plan was simple and effective. She instructed a servant to bring her and Friedrich two cups of tea. Friedrich sat in front of the fireplace and read. It was a quiet afternoon.
When the tea was brought, Agathe sprinkled a few crumbs of the powder into Friedrich's cup. Along with the sugar. He did not notice this.
"Tea, my dear?" She handed the cup to her still-husband.
Friedrich looked up from his book with a smile and gratefully accepted the cup with the deadly drink. "A tea is just the right thing now."
"I agree. Is your book exciting?"
"A new novel I ordered." Friedrich sighed. "Unfortunately, the plot is very sluggish."
"What a pity." She sat down on the second chair, which stood in front of the fireplace. "But you don't have to finish reading the book."
"I always finish what I started, honey."
"Me too." She winked at him and took a sip from her cup. "This is an important virtue."
"Virtue?" Friedrich snorted and took a sip from his cup. "I don't think you're a particularly virtuous person."
"Neither are you."
"More virtuous than you, Agathe. But let's not argue about it." He sighed. "We've been arguing too much lately."
"Don't worry. The dispute will soon be finally over."
"What do you mean?" He took another sip of tea. The fire in the fireplace flickered in warning, letting Friedrich's hair shimmer golden. "Have you forgiven me?"
"Your stupidity? Yes and no."
"Hm..." Friedrich placed the teacup on a small, noble glass table, which he had pulled next to the armchair. "Torsten's children are sweethearts. He helped us to have a strong bond with the vampires."
"I guess he has."
"I'm sure they'll come to their senses and leave us guns and rope." Friedrich rubbed his head. He grimaced and looked into the fire of the fireplace. The flames flickered furiously.
"Are you not well?"
"I'm feeling... funny... I..." He coughed for a moment, then his head slumped lifelessly to the side. His upper body tilted forward. King Friedrich was dead. Agathe smiled and reached for his book. A romance novel. How fitting. She put the book back on the table.
"I always finish everything, my dearest", she murmured, pouring his tea into the fire. The flames hit her furiously. Agathe stowed the can in a hidden pocket in her skirt, then she rushed to the door and screamed as desperately as possible: "I need help! He suddenly tipped over! Please! Quick!"
Servants heard her call and hurried into the fireplace room. But there was nothing more they could do for Friedrich. He was dead. Just as Agathe wanted.
The proud queen skillfully played the frightened wife. She sank sobbing down the wall and hid her head in her hands. Servants placed a white cloth over the king's body and tried to comfort the queen. Black cloths were hung in the windows and soon after, an undertaker came to fetch the king and prepare him for a funeral.
It happened very quickly.

Agathe played the shaken role wonderfully. Her servant Liesa prepared her a warm bath so that she could calm down.
Agathe lay contentedly in the warm water. He was gone. He's gone!
She no longer needed Friedrich. No. She intended to quietly conquer the realm of the vampires and after that, she wanted to make the strength of the centaurs her own. It would increase her power. Perhaps one day she would rule over the entire world! Then there would be no more wars. No one could take away her loved ones. She would be the most powerful of all!
Julia should see it. Witness this. She will stand by my side.
Agathe closed her eyes and searched for her youngest daughter again.
She wanted Julia by her side when she became the ruler of the world. How many countries they could conquer together!
But she found no trace of the young witch. Agathe sighed and got out of the bathroom. She dried her still-young body and let Liesa help her put on an elaborate mourning dress. She had to plan a funeral. And she had to send a letter.
Agathe called for her consultants. She wanted the funeral to take place as soon as possible. She would leave the exact planning to them. She wanted to meet with them the very next day and then announce the death of the king.
Then she called for an old acquaintance who was currently in the castle. A good friend who could help out in tricky situations. Especially now that Cleo's special services were no longer available to her and new shadows had to be formed. Talented soldiers were hard to find. She had finally heard of promising students at the military school. A young witch named Marie was already being seen as a future shadow. A bourgeois girl with great talent and ambition.
"My queen?" A young man with dark skin and dark curls came into her office, where Agathe had just written a letter to Prince Marlon. "You called for me?"
"Sit down!" She pointed to the empty chair in front of her desk.
Keno, a hitman, was an untalented wizard, but very skilled in his trade. Agathe knew him from her time in the military. The two were the same age. "The servant?", she asked almost casually. She meant the servant who had provided her with the precious powder.
"She is silent forever. Is that why you called me? Ninnie?" Ninnie. That was his old pet name for her.
Agathe smiled. "Ninnie. I haven't heard that for a long time."
"Isn't it? Those were great days. When we were young and angry."
"That is true. I need a little favor. Of course, you will be compensated appropriately", she said.
"A favor? Is anyone else on the Queen's death list? My condolences for your loss, Ninnie."
"Thank you." Grinning, she held her hand to her heart. "That feels good. But, no." She pushed him the sealed letter and a small, rolled-up note. "It's not my kill list, but it will benefit me."
Keno accepted the envelope frowning. "I'm supposed to play postman?"
"More than just postmen. This letter is for Prince Marlon. The young vampire. Please hand over the letter very discreetly. The address is written on the note. And, maybe the prince will need your services."
"My services?"
"The stupid boy has big plans, but not the necessary intelligence. But the success of his plan is important to me."
"I understand." Keno nodded and pocketed the letter. "Cheers to another adventure, Ninnie."
