Julia

The next morning the fairies were gone.

Leopold brought her a letter from Ingried. The letter she longed for.

Ingried was looking forward to seeing her little sister again and wrote that Julia could come by at any time.

Julia was delighted.

On weekends, she had plenty of time to drive into town and visit her sister.

As for the test in magic, she had a bad feeling. She definitely should have studied for it. Just like for the test they all wrote on Monday.  On Friday, they would write a test in history, so she sat at her desk before breakfast and studied.

In class, fencing, sword fighting, and magic awaited her all day. She would have liked to do without all these subjects.

Helga was her fencing partner and very talented, unlike Julia.

The day passed slowly. In fencing, she tripped over her own feet, in sword fighting class Julia and Marie got into a laughing fit and were therefore sent out. In magic, she managed to conjure up a vision. They had been divided into groups according to their magical talent. Besides Julia, there was only one other seer in her class. They should try to see a vision from a specific, desired point in time. Past, present, or future. Elias had immediately managed to see a vision. A short picture from the past. Julia needed three attempts. She had tried to see a vision of the present, but instead, she had also seen an image from the past. She saw her mother as a young girl picking flowers in a meadow. Shortly thereafter, classes were canceled because Marie accidentally flooded the entire hallway with all rooms.

In the evening, Julia returned to her desk to study.

There was a knock at her door and Leopold came in with a hot chocolate. "Are you making progress?" he asked.

Julia groaned and gratefully accepted the hot chocolate. "Maybe I'd make progress if the material wasn't so boring and frustrating."

"Can I help you? I was always good at studying for tests."

"But this is your free time. You should do something you enjoy."

Leopold sat down on her bed. "And if I would like to help you? How about you tell me everything you need to know for the test? Or I could help you write study notes..."

"Yes, that would actually help me. Thank you very much."

Leopold helped her write study notes and queried them every evening. Friday came very quickly and she sat in her classroom to write the history test. For the first time, she felt well prepared. She knew the answer to every question. In the end, she happily handed in the completed sheet of paper.

During the break, she sat outside with her friends. It was a very warm autumn day.

"I think I'll fail." Philip sighed. "I couldn't think of anything else."

"I think I'll get a good grade." Helga leaned against a big tree.  Marie and Pia sat on the lawn and talked about what they wanted to do when they had completed all the tests and exams. The next week, trials in fencing and sword fighting awaited them.

"We could all go to town together!" suggested Marie.

"And on weekends we could practice together for the exams," Pia added.

"That would really help me." Philip ran his hand through his hair. "I can't fail more exams, otherwise my parents might cut my pocket money!"

"I visit my sister on Saturday, but I have time on Sunday." Julia sat next to Marie. "I definitely need some practice."

"Surely they won't let you fail." Helga tightened her legs and wrapped her arms around them. "After all, you're the princess."

"I don't think that's a reason not to grade me appropriately for my miserable performance. At least I don't have to fear that my pocket money will be cut. But my mother expects good grades..." Julia leaned against Marie. "At least today's test went really well! I have a good feeling."

The rest of the day was very quiet. In the evening, Julia made herself comfortable on the sofa with a book. Sophie sat on a small armchair and knitted. She heard her three servants laughing. Apparently, they were having fun.

After some time, Leopold came around the corner. "Finn sends me to tell you, that needs more wool", he turned to Sophie with a mischievous grin.

"I gave him three balls of wool earlier, he can’t have used them all already."

"He didn't... Marko and I... Well... We threw the wool at each other and now the wool is so badly knotted that you can't get it apart."

Sophie looked at him in disbelief. "You did what?"

"We ruined the wool?"

"Really!" Sophie snorted. "Then you can untie them."

"We tried." Leopold shrugged his shoulders. "It doesn't work."

Sophie sighed. "Marko and you, you both have a wool ban! Finn can get new wool from my room. But there is not much left. But this time, you won’t do mischief with it, young man! While you're here, the princess is going to town tomorrow. You can accompany her and buy new wool for me. I'll give you money."

Julia listened to the conversation with amusement. Leopold looked at her briefly. "I'll do it," he agreed, winking at Julia. "What do you want to do in the city?"

"Didn't I tell you?" she replied in surprise, feeling her blush slightly.

"At least not me."

"I'm visiting Ingried tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it. I haven't seen her for a long time. She did send letters, but it's not the same thing."

"Send her my greetings, will you?" Sophie continued knitting and gave Leopold one last angry and amused look at the same time.

"I'm sure she's looking forward to seeing you." Leopold sat down next to Julia. "How long do you want to stay?"

"I don't know why?"

"Well... Buying wool doesn't take that long... Then I guess I'll go back before you? Or shall I wait for you?"

Julia's cheeks became even redder. "You don't have to. Feel free to drive back to the academy when you've bought the wool."

"All right. I'll tell Finn he can get new wool." Leopold left the living room. Sophie looked at her, shaking her head. "The nice wool completely ruined...", she murmured.

Julia returned to her book.  I'm going to town tomorrow with Leopold... Alone.

Well... Except for the guards, but they don't count...
