To say getting hit by a truck was painful was to say that the Pacific Ocean was wet.
Thankfully, the moment was brief and when I realised what was going on I was already dead. Well, I can only assume I had died since I was suddenly in a place filled with blurry clouds and ethereal light.
"So, guess this is heaven, huh?" I said to nobody in particular.
"Not exactly." The clouds replied.
I spun around to look for the source of the voice but saw no one.
"Down here!"
Spinning back around, I glanced downwards to my feet and saw a small squirrel-like creature standing before me holding what appeared to be a nut in its tiny paws.
"And you are?" I asked the squirrel.
"I'm not a squirrel!" The squirrel said.
I blinked for a second. Wait a second. Could it...
"Yes I can read your mind." The squirrel uttered with crossed eyebrows. "It's not polite to label people based on appearances."
"Right." I nodded. I'm not about to get into an argument with a squirrel as the first thing I do in the afterlife.
"You did it again! You thought of me as a squirrel!"
"Sorry sorry...!" I waved my hands apologetically. "I can't help it. Maybe if you would introduce yourself then I can think of you as something else?"
"Fine." The squirrel grumbled. "My name is Gunsey, I'm the God of all Worlds, the Alpha and Omega, Supreme Ruler of the Universe."
I blinked twice. I suppose if I was already in heaven then this probably won't be the strangest thing I will have to believe in.
"Jeez..." The squirrel sighed.
"Anyways, is this heaven?" I asked, glancing around. "Seems to be nothing here besides clouds."
"Not exactly," The squirrel said, "You're currently in a place we gods call the Crossway."
Gods. So there more than 1 god. Interesting.
"Go on."
"It's a place where deceased souls pass through before heading off to their next destination, and no, the next destination for you is not heaven. Your soul is commissioned for another world before you can rest in the afterlife."
"So what is--"

"Sorry pal," The squirrel interrupted me, glancing behind him at where now appeared beams of light splitting the clouds to create a sundial of sorts. "I'm running low on time so I'll be sending you off now. I'm not supposed to be answering questions anyways."
Strange symbols that appeared like words from an ancient language appeared on the sundial and the squirrel's face darkened at them, "Uh oh. You really do have bad luck, don't you? Seems like you're not the only one that died getting hit by that truck."
"What? What do you mean by tha--"
"Best of luck, Ryuji." The squirrel clasped the nut above him and turned back to me with the most apologetic look I have ever seen on a squirrel. "That girl that died with you is batshit crazy but do your best, okay!"
"Wait--!"
I've never had a girlfriend in my previous life. It wasn't that I was antisocial or anything like that. In fact I was a healthy 17-year-old boy who was just a year away from graduating highschool. It just all seemed to be too much effort for something that looked like it was more trouble than it was worth.
Maybe my parents' divorce when I was in grade school also made me lose a bit of faith in the institution. Statistics online says that 50% of marriages end in divorce. If you do end up being the lucky half that stays married, chances are that you end up stuck in an unfulfilling marriage for the sakes of the kids.
Anyways the reason I'm saying all this is because of my current predicament.
"Ryuji, this is your wife. Please take good care of her."
I glanced at the unfamiliar old man who had a stocky build and long white hair. He looked like one of those kung-fu masters from those cheap hong kong movies. But his appearance was besides the point. I was really just trying to figure out what he had just uttered out of his mouth.
"Huh?" I said to the old man, "Who are you?"
"I'm your dad, idiot!"
"D, dad...?!"
Even though I didn't live with my dad anymore, I knew what my dad looked like and he was definitely not my dad. So I came to the next logical conclusion. This must be the second life I had just isekai'd into.
I glanced to the side of my new dad at the girl standing there who he had just referred to as my 'wife'.
Long purple hair, violet eyes and one of the cutest faces I had ever seen in my life. She had a petite stature but her body was well developed with curves in all the right places. Definitely my type if I did have a type. Maybe isekai life wasn't going to be too bad after all.
"Hi, nice to meet you." I said to the girl. "I'm Ryuji."
"Ryuji,"
The girl spoke, her voice was soft like those asmr videos on the net but for some reason all the alarm bells in my head rang out at that moment. It was like someone had just dug their fingernails into my brain.
Her cute innocent face took on a wildly ecstatic look, one that I'd never imagine seeing on that face.
"I'm so happy we can finally be together in this life!"
