“AH—P!”
Johan’s mouth was slammed shut as the glare of the silhouette outside deepened. He couldn’t even scream for help in the face of the terrifying golden eyes and the madder red sclera staring at him, as if waiting to skin him strand after strand before slow cooking his body for days on end and then feeding them to fucking maggots.
A phantom? The moving black silhouette that writhed around and the ungodly eyes that seemed to be committing blasphemy from the mere act of existing. A phantom was too low, it must be a pawn of hell! An agent of Ragnarok!
The window slowly creaked open.
The moonlight was hidden behind a cloud again.
Step. Then another.
Slowly, the being walked in.
Reley? His master? Someone! Someone must be around to save him!
“Johan Bertile…”
“UMM!” With his mouth still shut close, Johan fell on his back. He was strong, he was a very strong knight, to the point of being a vice-captain, but what was this ‘thing’ in front of him? It was a monster. The pressure, the killing intent, it was not what humans could possess.
Another step.
The being’s eyes were directly above Johan.
“What…” the voice said. As if on cue, the cloud hiding the moon receded and the faint moonlight came shining back into the room. “What is your relationship with Kristine?”
A single ray of moonlight fell on the back of the man. His golden eyes and sharp face, the perfectly combed hair, and the impeccably neat suit. It was all just like the one he had seen a few hours ago.
It was the young count, Isaac von Episteme Athenus!
“I’ll only ask twice.” Isaac lowered his head and leaned closer to Johan, sending waves of fear down his spine. What, is your relationship, with Kristine!?”
“UMM! UM!”
Johan groaned out loud, his mouth still shut.
“Bastard, if you can touch Kristine, then you can pry your fucking mouth open.”
Tears started flooding out of Johan’s eyes. He shuffled to his knees and bowed on the ground before raising his head and slamming it to the ground. Over and over.
What in the holy name of Jupiter was this fucking situation?
“Tsk,” Isaac clicked his tongue and snapped his fingers. To think the one who touched Kristine was such a weak bastard to not be able to resist his magic. The stone-cold wizard in a fit of fiery hot rage completely ignored the fact that he had put in enough effort to make even an archmage struggle.
Feeling the force holding his mouth shut gone, Johan slammed his head to the ground and grabbed Isaac’s feet with his hands.
“I am her aide! Her aide and only her aide! I am nothing more than an aide and nothing less than an aide, oh great wizard! Have mercy on this lowly aide!”
Begging was a strategy used all over the world in desperate times. What kept Johan away from it?
“Aide?” Isaac slowly lifted his foot. In all honesty, he wanted to kill this bastard right here and now, but the slight chance of hurting Kristine’s heart stopped him the measure. “Why did a bastard aide touch his master? Huh?”
Isaac’s feet slowly came down and landed on the top of Johan’s head. “You, you, what do you think you’re doing, casually touching Kristine’s shoulder, huh?”
‘I’m fucked.’
Johan skipped through the stages of grief and hopped on to the train going straight to acceptance town. Goodbye, anger, goodbye, denial, his remaining life was too short to go through all of them one after the other.
“Answer me… Johan Bertile…” Like a wispy ghost lurking over his head, the young count’s voice rang in his head.
Something.
Something.
Why was this man asking such a question in the first place? Was the young count that obsessed with hierarchy and nobility? No, that couldn’t be. It was a well-known story that a son of a marquis was smacked left and right by him a while back. Would a person who cared about bloodline do that? Then why? Just why? Why was this sensible man acting like his master?

Johan’s mind blanked in an instant.
Acting like his master.
No way.
No fucking way.
“Lord…” Johan gulped. He was betting his life on this. “Perchance, do you… do you like my master?”
The same force pulled up Johan’s entire body. His neck was squeezed while his eyes met the man in front of him. Mad. No, that was too tame a word. Insane, psycho! This guy was an insane psycho!
“Yes, I do, you bastard,” the young count said. “Should I kill you right here?”
The force squeezing his neck tightened.
It was stupid! Unlike his master, this man was not in denial at all! Heck, he was actively going for the lady! Doomed! Johan was doomed.
He could feel his breath ending.
His mind raced in all directions once again. Anything, he was ready to do anything to save his life.
The light in his eyes flickered as it became harder and harder to hold on.
Just how stupid a death was for a knight to be killed by a secret admirer’s misunderstanding? He refused to die here.
“M-my master! I’ll tell you everything about my master!!”
The grip loosened.
Johan took in a deep breath, he was scrambling for air.
“What do you mean?” Isaac asked.
This was the test. The test of the great noble.
Just by saying he would tell him everything, Johan had risked immediate death. After all, who would like to have their loved one trusting a loose mouth?
“Not anything… about her work… or her plans,” Johan said in between gasps, his body still lifted in the air. “But, but… I’ll tell you the kind of guys she likes! And I’ll help you set dates and and pick out gifts and stuff!”
His body slowly lowered down. But not enough.
One final push.
“And… I’ll cheer on your love with all my heart!!”
A thud sounded out as Johan fell to the ground again. Before he could even come to terms with whatever he had blurted out, a hand appeared in front of him.
“I am impressed, vassal Johan Bertile…” Isaac’s voice, which was colder than ice, carried a strange sense of warmth.
Confused and scared, Johan tried to shake hands with the noble, but his hand was slapped away. He then noticed the small sheet of paper sticking out from between the man’s fingers.
“Contact me here,” he said. “I have high expectations for you.”
Johan slowly reached out and grabbed the paper from the man’s hand.
The light around vanished again as the moon was blocked by the clouds once more.
Johan frantically shook his head around with the paper in his hands, but by the time the moonlight reached the room again, Isaac was gone.
Johan fell to his knees and took in deep breaths.
“I survived…”
