Chapter 2: Magic Academy

 

 

After sorting out hormones, Noah takes the main road that led him toward the academy.

"Wow, there are so many people today in the city, " he thinks out loud as he watches people enter through the main gate.

This is the first time that Noah has been by himself(outside the manor) under the academy's directions and has been overwhelmed by the streets that are crowded with the hawking of vendors selling various stuff(Weapons, pills, potions, talismans, etc.) and buyers who are queuing in big lines to buy their stuff.

 This is the biggest gathering for the commoners or nearby villagers every year as many businessmen,  Hunters, or low rankers(F, E, and D) sell stuff that is not commonly found in local markets, So people are queueing in many lines that are formed everywhere.

1. Applicants are under or 15
2. No Guardians are allowed
3. Without weapons except for soul weapons

He was totally overwhelmed by the crowd and standing in a queue without knowing how he got there. when a hand touched his shoulders he looks back and saw a pretty tomboyish girl waving at him with her other hand.

"What are you doing here?" asks Alice while angrily emphasizing " Aren't you going to be late for the ceremony ".

She is Noah's childhood friend and last year both are even engaged as the Grey family and Goldstein family had friendly relationships for generations.

Alice Grey is 15 years old and 160 cm tall girl with silver hair and silver-colored eyes(trademark of the grey family). Her two buns hairstyle and boyish clothing give her tomboyish looks which otherwise have been a marvelous site to behold as she is one of the five most beautiful young ladies in the new ranking.

She is a pampered young lady as she is the only scion of the Grey family(which currently hosts only 3 members her mom Shasha and grandmom Lana(Vice-president of magi council)) after her father went missing on a secret mission 10 years ago.

After sorting out his mind from his eagerness to watch and see different new things to remembering his goal of coming here, he takes a huge breath and runs toward the academy with her hand in his hand which causes blushes to form on her face.

Running at full speed, They reached the entrance of the academy in time which is crowded with applicants and teachers.

The setup of the awakening stage has been completed and everyone is standing the lined waiting for their numbers.

Noah and Alice both are now in the same queue and front rows applicants are taken to the stage by teachers.

The awakening ceremony is a very simple process. First, absorb mana from the awakening stone(which is closely monitored and controlled by the Empire) by the given technique from the teacher and then put a hand on the crystal ball to show the ability on the screen, and then their classes are chosen based on their abilities.

Without awakening stone, very few people can awaken their abilities(chances are less than 0.01%). Every awakening stone has been registered after mining to check the power balance in the Empire and maintain its peace. This is the reason the awakening ceremony is very strictly monitored as many influential heirs of the big families also come to join.

"Tom, come up " and then the result came out as Ability: "Hardening"     Class: "D"

"Dick, come up" and then the result came out as Ability: "Wolf Transformation"     Class: "C"

"harry, come up" and then the result came out as Ability: "Stretching" "D-class"

Half of the students are already awakened but not a single student has been chosen in class A, So class S is totally out of the question for many students.

Most of them are disappointed and wanted to voice out opposition but then they shut their mouth after seeing the Red haired teacher named mark whose handsome face is currently seething in anger.

Physical transformation abilities are most common in the world While Elemental abilities are rarer.

There are Seven elements(Fire, Earth, Water, Air, and Wood are natural elements, and Light and Darkness are creation elements).

There are also some Variant elements(like ice, gold,  lava, lightning or thunder, etc.) that are rarer than natural elements.

Students with Natural and Variant elements are commonly put in A-class(geniuses are in S-class).

The rarest of them all are Time, Space, and Spirit-related abilities. The person with the creation and these abilities are highly coveted by the council. So they are automatically being put in S-Class.

"Henry Bluestone, come to the stage" shouted mark while observing the students as a handsome boy with aqua blue hair come to him while observing everyone as a king and then put his hand on the crystal ball(indicating that he has already awakened his ability).

Everyone was shocked to see a genius among them and the young girls are looking lovingly at henry as he is the most precious jade in the world. Then Henry comes down while putting his naturally arrogant front after seeing mark's smile as if this is what he has been come here for.

"Why do you have to be so arrogant over a result" mumbles, Noah to himself as his rival since childhood Henry has entered S-class. Both of their families have been rivals toward each other as well.

After seeing Noah's mood, Alice says to him "focus on your own exam", to which he replies by nodding his head.

Everyone knows about Noah's physical power, So they can guess he will not get into the upper class easily if he awakens a common physique-related ability. Alice does not give false hope so she does not console him and waited to improve his mood on his own.

 

"Alice Grey, come up," says mark warmly to her as her result came out as Ability: "ice/Time" and class: "A".

All the students and staff members were shocked to see a dual ability holder(with a Time element in a single person) but after confirming she is from the family of Grey, everyone quieted down.

"Noah, come to the stage," says Mark while heaving a sigh of relief as the ceremony is going to end without accidents.

Noah is very nervous so he is walking very slowly toward the stage while looking at the selected student's side after being called out as he is the last student for the ceremony. 

The selected students are as follows: 

1000 students for F-class, 500 students for E-class

200 for D-class, 100 for C-class, 50 for B-class

25 for A-Class and  4 for S-Class( with Laura: light  and Aron: lightening)

 

Alice is also nervously praying for his good result as they are very good friends she does not want to be separated. After her father went missing, Noah comes regularly to her home with his usual bright smile which makes both mother and daughter giggle. His naive personality has covered her all memories which is why she readily accepted her engagement with him.

Henry is smirking at his nervous footsteps while thinking that he finally has a win over his enemy as he is physically weaker than Noah and he is always bested by him, but from now on he will always remain on top.

After thinking of his future self, his mouth now contains a smile.

When Noah touches the awakening stone, he felt a jolt in his head and stood still motionless.

After seeing him motionless, Alice felt very nervous as there are some people who can't awaken their ability even with the help of the awakening stone and she does not want him to be sad, she prayed for his safety and decided that very moment that she will always protect him which improved her mana flow network and darken her silver hair and eyes. Mark's eyes shone brightly after seeing the darker hair and contemplated himself becoming her tutor.

Henry, who was smirking at the side suddenly felt a chill down his spine. When he sees that dark silver hair/eyes combination, his smirk left him suddenly. He knew that if he makes a move dampen Noah's mood, he will be beaten to death here and now. He also now wants Noah to have an ability.

While everyone watches Noah nervously, his mind and soul have been sent to a different space.
