Chapter 16 Part 2: Injured

After saying that, Hyewon-Unnie went out of the tent as if she was running away from a plague. I also tried standing for the first time, after a long time of recuperation. My injured leg was still a little awkward, but I was still able to walk normally. Should I try running?

When I came out of the tent, everyone greeted me warmly. Jeong Sang-Jun, who had new scars above and below his left eye, smiled at me brightly. He seemed to look more stern compared to when I first met him.

“Seoha-ya! I heard that your treatment is finally over today. Can you walk already?”

He often came to visit me, when I was bedridden in the tent. I gave him a smile, then replied that I was feeling better now. However, he still made a fuss about it, and continued to check on me. When he’s finally convinced, he stopped.

“I’m really glad.”

Some people were also curious about my conditions but they didn’t approach. They did ask me how I was by saying a word or two.

I was going to leave them right away, but because of my injury, I stayed a little longer than I expected.

As long as I know Beelzebub is targeting me, I can’t stay here. If master caught that bastard’s eye, she might be put through similar situations as before my regression. I can’t let that happen.

Now that my body had recovered, I should leave this place quietly…

Although it would be difficult for me, to sneak away from these hunters.

My skills are specialized in short-distance movement, so it will be difficult to escape the range of the Scouting Unit.

It means that I might have to officially inform them about my leaving. Moving with them was not proper in the first place. Hunters rarely let survivors accompany them. So if I tell them that I’d like to pack my things and leave…

Was it because I’ve been spending so much time hanging around with people. That I feel a little reluctant to go? I also have a feeling of ambiguity, not knowing where to go.

However, it was enough for me alone to deal with Beelzebub’s pranks. If they continue to stay with me, they might get tangled up with his ‘Gifts‘ again and maybe next time we wouldn’t be so lucky.

The surroundings became noisy in an instant. They were discussing something, but I can barely hear them. They seemed to be looking at the same place. What’s going on?

Soon, a group of people walked through the crowd. The group of Backwater people parted sideways to clear a path for them to pass.

Compared to the Scouting Unit, they were thoroughly armed.

Dressed in a standard black uniform and military boots, each of them gave off a soldier-like atmosphere. Their movements were calculated, not missing an angle. There was a pattern of a Blazing Flame engraved on the chest of their uniforms.

Red Flames Guild!

It was one of the huge guild vying for first or second place in South Korea. I know that Red Flames were participating in this gate clearing operation, but…

That man had come all the way here, Why?

The man was walking in front, with an expressionless face and indifferent eyes. This was the Ace of the Red Flames, Jeon Chung-Woon. It was a man with a face of a classic oriental beauty. I don’t know what it is like right now, but before my regression, he was the highest ranked among the hunters who was not a real member of any guild, but just casually joining random ones to participate in raids.

And this man, shouldn’t be in this subjugation force.

“You are Han Seo-Ha?”

Jeon Chung-Woon approached and asked me. There was no reason to deny it, so I nodded my head.

“You’re that bait.”

What are you talking about?

However, before I could ask him what he meant, Hyewon-Unnie intervened between the two of us.

“Oops! The Red Flames are here! They came earlier than I thought, so I wasn’t able to receive you.”

“Hahaha…”

She laughed awkwardly, and quickly grabbed me away from Jeon Chung-Woon, and hid me behind her back. So I couldn’t even make any eye contact.

Just what’s going on?

Everything was a series of things that were difficult to understand. However, there was no way for Hyewon-Unnie to harm me, so I obediently hid behind her back.

“You don’t have to come to meet us. We are stronger.”

“Oh, yes, well, I’m sure you are.”

He casually provoked Hyewon-Unnie, although his words were infuriating he doesn’t look as arrogant as he sounded. It seemed like they were familiar with each other, and this happens more than once or twice. The man standing next to him calmly ignored Jeon Chung-Woon and continued talking.

“Aren’t you the guild leader of Backwater? It’s been a while since I’ve seen you. How have you been?”

“It’s been a while, Ki-taek-ssi1! I’ve been well, hahaha.”

Formal greetings were exchanged, and a man called Ki-taek glanced in my direction. His eyes were long like foxes so it wasn’t quite discernable.

“Anyway, I guess we didn’t explain it properly.”

“We obviously, refused.”

“Don’t you know that it was part of the Government Policy? Why are you doing this? Stop acting like someone who knows everything.”

Aha. Government Policy. Now everything made sense.

Hyewon-Unnie’s heated phone call, and why she couldn’t make eye contact with me earlier, to the word ‘Bait’ that came out of Jeon Chung-Woon’s mouth. Now they’re talking about the government policy…

Ever since the gate outbreak happened, it had become difficult to guarantee all the human rights of the small minority. With its current track record, I think I know what they’re planning to do. Especially since the state is also a community that only benefits when the number of its citizens is large, so they begun to pay attention to different ways to extract maximum efficiency with a minimum sacrifice.

This government policy was established just for that sole purpose. Inside this gate, as long as they can save the majority, they won’t hesitate to make a couple of sacrifices, and this was greatly tolerated.

And in this case, the ‘sacrifice’ was… Obviously me.

They are the main clearing unit that was assigned to deal with the Gate Boss, and I am the target of that same Boss’. They probably planned to use me as a ‘bait’ to get the Boss to come out.

Even if the Main boss doesn’t come out directly, they’d still benefit if they can catch a couple of his underlings. They would be able to gather that Bastard’s information and that could help them a lot. Either way, I am the Goose that can lay the Golden Egg.

Most of the guilds predicted that the rewards after clearing this gate would be enormous.

Red Flame must have gone through countless of competitions in order to get the rights to ‘Snatch Me‘.

What did they sacrifice before in order to come to me? How many other interests have you given up to come here?

“But as I said, this kid is too young. She’s only twenty now…”

“Inside the gate, age is irrelevant.”

A voice of a young girl, echoed from behind them.
