Chapter 19 Part 1: Toluk

Flutter.

The sound of a book turning pages was unusually loud.

Indeed. This was what I asked him to do. The note I sent to the crow must have contained such content.

“I want you to kidnap me, I want to talk to you, I want to see you. Where did this wild behavior go?”

He’s such an asshole, and the way he’s acting like he’s got grease on his tongue makes me want to vomit. There are times when Inhuman beauty is masked by a veneer of deceitfulness, but this tasteless boss monster was my master’s enemy.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a human who would ask to be kidnap by me. I’ve lived a long life, and this is still a first for me.”

I’m honored. I’ll be remembered as a very rare crazy person.

“So.”

He closed the book and stared at me.

“What do you have to say?”

His red eyes scrutinize me as if trying to pin me down. I resisted the urge to douse the Karambit with holy water, and swing it towards him. It took a lot of my patience. Of course, if I swung it, it would disappear, without being able to reach the target with this fragile body.

“Make a deal with me.”

“I need to figure out the subject.”

This sounds like something I’ve heard from Kim Ki-Taek. Although his language was a bit more sophisticated.

“Even though I have information that you might find interesting?”

“I’m not interested in most things.”

He had that look on his face. But don’t I know his only hobby?

“I have Red Rice1.”

It’s still something interesting, maybe.

“To Bet my life on such shallow things. Am I a fool?”

“I know where you came from.”

He was silent for a moment, as if trying to gauge my intentions. Wondering what I meant.

Whether it’s a bluff or something I really know.

Even before the regression, I had learned some uncomfortable truths inside this gate. Even the government cautiously hypothesized and asked, “Was it possible?”. I was confronted by their true intentions.

“Toluk. A Polluted World. That’s where you came from.”

“We must have a traitor on our midst.”

“Think what you like.”

Toluk. They called their world that. Just as we call this planet, Earth. It was a continental landmass that stretched out to no end. It was their home, and it was called that.

It’s a simple story. Toluk became polluted and difficult for life to survive.

So the creatures of Toluk turned to other places to survive, and that place is here. Earth.

The Gate was not a natural disaster or divine punishment. It appeared because People from Toluk invaded. It was the signal flare of a war of conquest. A war to subjugate humans and make us their slaves.

Of course, what the Toluk hadn’t anticipated was that with the creation of the Gate, 「Awakeners 」began to appear on our side. So we’ve been watching and preparing for war.

“You hate humans, don’t you?”

Aside from his obsession with interesting humans, and objects to observe. Beelzebub disliked humans as a collective. When humans began to band together, he would say with disdain that they became arrogant, despotic, uninformed, and would always run amok. And then he would kill all of Hye-Won’s friends.

Right now, the allied forces, who had the most numbers, and who want to be on top of their head, will be very annoying.

“What if I knew the name of the head of the Toluk Alliance?”

It was only then that he made a face like he was tempted.

“How can I trust you with that information?”

“I’ll put my neck on the line.”

I was prepared for that.

“It doesn’t mean anything to me.”

“If it was real, it would mean something to you.”

Earth and Toluk have been at odds for a long time. At first they moved slowly, then acted more brazenly five years later, making it clear for us who our enemies were. In a war like this, you learn things you don’t want to know.

Toluk is not like Earth. Whereas we are all just one race, the “Humans,” there are many different races in Toluk. My arch nemesis, the one with pointed ears, was an elf, not a human, and the Beelzebub in front of me is a demon. They’ve only allied themselves together because their lives are in danger due to Toluk’s pollution, but they’ve never really gotten along.

So even though they were currently a team, there were all sorts of political issues going on within them.
