Chapter 20 Part 2: Cathedral
I don’t know if Jeon Chung-woon is asking me seriously, and since he’s easier to fool than the eloquent Kim Ki-tack or the expressionless Sun Ha-Rang, I threw the opening line at him.
“I saw it clearly outside the window. It was a cross, of a cathedral.”
“A Cross?’’
I nodded. Then Jeon Chung-Woon’s colorful face turned a bit grim. He seemed disappointed that the information wasn’t as helpful as he thought it would be.
There are dozens of cathedrals within this gate, so it’s impossible to search them all. It’s even worse when the search doesn’t just stop at the church, but extends to the area where the church’s cross is visible. It’s not much different from a full search.
So here’s one more hint.
“And also the Han River.”
“The Han River?”
This alone narrows the range dramatically.
There are probably not many cathedrals within this gate that are so close enough that you can see the Han River.
I immediately conveyed this information to Kim Ki-taek, who deftly sifted through the candidates. We huddled together in a tent. Hye-won, the leader of the scouting unit, was also present.
“There are three places that we can go to right now, it’s also not far from here.”
There were One, two, and three marks on the map. It wasn’t a bad distance, and fortunately, it had the church I was looking for. Of course, I specifically aimed for it, but if I hadn’t been so lucky, I might have had to wander around a bit more.
“It’s okay. I don’t know if that bastard’s mansion is the kind you can see from the outside… but since it had a distorted time axis, it should be easy to spot if you look carefully.”
Hye-won’s face instantly lit up.
“We also need to figure out a way to kill the boss monster… We’re not very confident that we can do it by ourselves yet, so we’ll wait for outside support first. Let’s focus on searching.”
Kim Ki-taek added calmly. It was a good decision. However, it was still a luxurious setup compared to what we had before the regression. I couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to come. I wondered why Jeon Chung-Woon, who had never set foot in this gate before, suddenly entered as part of the clearing unit.
“What was the angle? You said you saw the cross.”
Oh It’s hard to say.
“I don’t remember well… but I’ll know once I see it again…”
My purpose is that cathedral. I hid my true intentions and spoke calmly, Kim Ki-taek didn’t add anything more. He just advised me to go to bed early because we’ll be moving to the nearest building tomorrow. That’s it.
❖
“It’s kind of ghastly.”
The abandoned cathedral gave off an eerie vibe to the place. All the windows are broken, and the floor is littered with dust and shards of glass from the monster attacks. Sunlight shone through the broken windows, and the rays of light illuminated the statue of Jesus, creating a very mysterious atmosphere.
“Okay. Now that you’re in, do you remember anything?”
I don’t remember anything.

However, in order to enter into 「Theo’s arrangement」 certain conditions must be triggered.
“…Weird.”
Jo Yeon-ho muttered in my place. He was frowning slightly. He’s a healer, I mean… He’s close to a cleric in the classical sense, so he probably noticed it. Yeon-ho lightly brushed his hand across the statue of Jesus on the front of the cathedral.
“I can sense the divine power.”
“Divine power? From this statue?”
“Yes. It’s faint… but it’s there. It seems to be within this statue.”
Everyone looked at each other at Jo Yeon-ho’s words. No matter how the world turns upside down, religion is still one of the most important pillars that support humanity. Of course, the doctrine of this religion mentioned not to be attached to earthly objects, but…
…it was still disrespectful to destroy the symbols of their religion.
“We should destroy it.”
Hyewon unnie calmly said.
By the time I met Pyo Hye-won, it seemed that Jo Yeon-ho had already changed his identity. So I don’t know for sure… …But it seemed like he was the one who broke the statue with Hyewon-Unnie in this place. He, who could feel the divine power. It must be the same before.
I looked around for a while. Me, Hyewon-Unnie, Jo Yeon-ho, Kim Ki-taek, Jeon Chung-woon and Sun Ha-Rang. The rest are probably scanning the neighborhood or looking out from the outside. With this amount of people, we can clear it.
“Then, Break it!”
Hye-won lifted her foot high, and slammed it down with force, and there was a loud, Crack!
Then the statue mysteriously turned into ash and turned into powder. Everyone noticed the deterioration immediately, but it was too late. The plaster dust violently swirled, as if threatening to swallow us.
“Sh*t! Everyone Hold on!”
I can’t open my eyes properly because of the dust.
I could hear Kim Ki-Taek shouting at me to hold hands with those closest to me, to not fall behind, and to not be alone, but before I could swing my hands, all the noise suddenly subsided.
Tick, Tock.
I heard the ticking of a clock’s second hand. I slowly opened my eyes.
