Chapter 25 Part 2: Rescue
Could it be because we’ve been laughing and talking and being together for an entire month? But even if I’m not normal now, I don’t really have a choice.
If I didn’t realize it now, I would regret it very much later. In the end, I was the one who ran into the burning building. Kim Ki-Taek hesitated, then finally agreed to my request. At the door of the building, I activated «Spatial Interference». I immediately recognized the space of the entire building in an instant.
“This is weird. No one on the first floor, no one on the second floor.”
If I had any intention of escaping, I would have prepared to jump out of a window on the lower floor. Why is there no one here? Then I remembered Kim Ki-taek’s words. He said that the priest’s behavior were suspicious. A fire broke out, and no one came out. Please. I hope I was wrong. I activated my skill again. The target is… the top floor.
“Hahahahahaha! Hahahahahaha! Ha!”
Before I could open my eyes, a loud laughter assaulted my ears.
“It worked. It worked!”
There was blood all around me. The man making the noise was dressed as a priest, but he was covered in seven coats of blood, making him look like a red mess. He didn’t even seem to realize that I was there.
‘Bodies…’
One, Two, Three… There were so many bodies on the ground, including three children’s bodies… that I could see. This is bad. The limit was four. It’s tighter than I thought. “The next ‘Saintess’ has finally been born, because of me! I’ve implanted the object of the most powerful fragment of all time, and you are my masterpiece… My very own creation, My life’s work! Alas, Dahlia!”
…Upon hearing those words, my entire body went cold. Did he say ‘Dahlia‘?
“Huh? Alas, we have company… Great, this will be a chance to test our new Saintess, eh, Dahlia. Come on, get a grip…” On the man’s back, I saw something I didn’t want to see. Eyes that had lost their focus, staring into thin air. Green pupils that had lost their sparkle and were cloudy. Her blond hair was bloody all over, and empty bottles rolled under her bare feet. It could be seen that they had used a lot of holy water on her. Next to the chair Dahlia was tied to, an assortment of weapons were displayed.
‘…I don’t regret it.’
‘Not a single moment.’
Really? Even now, you don’t regret it?
A wastrel with no reason to live, it is right to cut him down. I used the Karambit to cut the priest down hard. I had to make several swings because one slash didn’t kill him. A new puddle of blood formed on the floor, but it didn’t matter because the floor was bloody enough to begin with.

“…Dahlia, I’m sorry I’m late.”
I apologized, even though I couldn’t hear it. A stabbing pain rose from the inside of my chest. Her dead eyes came to life for a moment.
“Ritch… Did I… I Succeed…?”
I nodded, barely able to answer her question. “I… I’ve really become a saintess… I’ve really become a saintess… I, now… I can protect you, Ritch,” she said while the corners of her mouth turned upward.
But it was no longer the gentle smile that she was used to. Dahlia sensed its unnaturalness, too, and muttered, “Uh-oh.”
She tried to smile with a shaky effort, stretching her stiff facial muscles, but the more she does, the more her face contorts and she looks like she’s in pain. She still tried to reassure me though.
“Now… I ah….”
Dahlia suddenly violently convulsed like crazy. Her limbs rattled in excruciating pain, she foamed at the corner of her mouth, and her eyes rolled back to reveal its whites.
In a panic, I reached over and tried to undo the restraints, but I needed a key. I couldn’t unlock it.
“Sh*t!”
I rummaged through the dead body, but the key didn’t come out. Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t!
I kept muttering curses and looking through the other bodies. A horrible sensation crawled up my fingertips, but I had no time to analyze it. I moved frantically through the pile of bodies.
“Aaaahhh! Aaaah! Aaaah!”
Dahlia continued to scream in agony, and there was nothing I could do for her. A sense of helplessness burned up from beneath me. It was a sensation I hadn’t felt in a very long time, a bone-chilling sensation.
“Ah……!”
And then, the screaming stopped. Dahlia’s throat snapped and her head fell back. I stopped my hand and looked at her. She was dead, but her chest was rising and falling. She wasn’t dead because she was breathing. Soon, a light began to emanate from her body. It was the same light I had seen on the saintess earlier. Dahlia, too, had become a saintess. A steady stream of light began to form above her head. It was like a giant goblet, wide at the mouth, and narrow as it descended. Carvings of angels and gods are engraved on it. There was no mistaking it. It was the purpose of this gate in the first place. An object that Hyewon-Unnie had used to slay Beelzebub. It was an orb that Theo had hidden because he pitied humans. An S-class holy relic, the 「 Holy Grail」.
