‘Throw them to a cell.’
‘You’re asking for too much.’
Maynard fired away in fury, kicking one of the table’s feet. Berland responded to his outburst with disdain.
‘A cell? That’s far too kind! Leave it to me; I’ll take advantage of the night and stab them in the dark.’
‘Stop it, Orphe. I don’t feel like you’re joking at all.’
‘Well, Berland. I am, in fact, very serious.’
In contrast to Maynard’s maddening fury, Orpheus speaks of frightening things with a perfectly calm face, greatly perplexing Berland.
Presently in the personal room of the first prince was Maynard himself, Orpheus, and Berland; a conference arranged to report the findings of the latter’s investigations.
Conference is a soft way of putting it—objectively speaking, this is nothing but a conspiracy.
They gathered here under the pretext of investigating the recent 2nd prince’s poisoning, but the topic that the three of them exchanged earlier was in no relation to the case.
‘Those bold enough to jest, relating my precious younger sister to the assassinations attempt deserves nothing but death.’
‘Orphe, that is no longer justice. That’s just personal vendetta.’
‘They’re the same thing! Both culprits dies equally.’
‘I’m begging you here, calm down.’
Orpheus is a severe case of sister complex, while Maynard is a blind follower of love to the same lady, Aileen. Because all things that the two advocates in unison lead to disastrous results, Berland was at his wit’s end, trying to pacify them both.
‘Orphe, giving them eternal peace with a single blow is not good either.’
‘What then?’
‘Mhm, there are lots to do. First, we need to pluck their nails one after another—’
‘Would the both of you cut it out already?’
Surprise attacks and tortures—these are far too extreme measures for the sin of travestying a saintess’ honor. Furthermore, the fact that Berland knows them to be far from joking makes him pale at the sight of their scheming.
These two turn into different demons when it comes to Aileen. Their personalities transform into something different. Berland couldn’t help but imagine what would happen when these two prime candidates do end up becoming the king and the prime minister in the future.
‘At any rate, let’s just let them off with a warning for now, and if they kept at it, we can start with imprisonment.’
”That’s not enough!”
With the both of them united in disapproval, Berland couldn’t help but yell at them to stop.
The two of them have been discussing how to punish those who dishonor Lady Aileen, and left to their own devices, there’s no telling Berland what scandals they would create in those endeavors.
‘That Lina, for starters, should be locked in a monastery for good.’
‘That’s too much! Lina had just saved a royal’s life. Do just that, and I guarantee you rebellions.’
‘We can rid them all in a single sweep, then.’

‘Agreed. Surely, this country would be a better place after.’
‘Are you two fools!?’
The prince and the young ducal lord aren’t alone in their rage. Berland’s younger sister, Caroline, was also contemplating on ambushing the lady in the veil of the night. Berland had just exerted lots of effort to stop that and was too exhausted to deal with another two.
‘Why am I always surrounded by these kinds of people?’
It’s not that he doesn’t sympathize with their anger. If Caroline were put under the same treatment, he would be furious too. Only furious; he would not run mad like them.
He is nearly doubting whether he can truly stop them both.
But just when he was about to throw in the towel, a voice from outside invaded the room.
‘Are you here, brother?’
The one who spoke after several knocks were the 2nd prince, Savalier.
Maynard suddenly turned all smiles and beckoned his younger sibling to enter.
‘You came at the perfect timing. We were just trying to come up with how to dispose of fools.’
‘What do you mean dispose!? I said that’s out of the question.’
Savalier smiled wryly at Berland’s clamor and sat right beside his older brother, Maynard.
‘Brother, Berland is visibly tired so please do away with your jests.’
‘I am not joking here, Savalier.’
‘Well, if you truly wish to dispose of them, we have to come up with heavier sentences to pin them down.’
‘Prince Savalier!’
‘Oh, my apologies. Mine was just in jest.’
Prince Savalier laughed, and after apologizing to Berland, regained his stern face.’
‘But as far as the poisoning incident—’
Prince Savalier spoke with a lower voice, turning Maynard’s eyes opened wide.
‘I see. So that’s how they were able to target you alone.’
‘Yeah.’
Even Orpheus, who was all vigorous in coming up with ways to get revenge at her sister’s offenders, strained his face.
‘But—what is their goal?’
Savalier shrugged his shoulders at his question.
‘Well, we’ll surely found about that soon enough.’ he said, responding with a smile.
