I wasn’t driving too fast. We are in town afterall. But I think I’m still breaking the speed limit. Not that there is one. Luckily the main street is quite wide so there is space for use to drive in. Well, not like Overdrive is any larger than a large carriage. It might even be smaller.
“Brian, we are getting a lot of attention.” Zayaan said to me.
“Yeah, I predicted as much. But most will forget about it after they hear about the wyvern attack.” I answered. It’s not like we are just driving around guns blazing. I mean literally, our machine gun hasn’t fired a single shot, yet.
“But this will cause a panic.” Zayaan answered.
“All things considered, that might not be a bad thing.” If the people hide, there is less of a chance they get hurt.” I told him. “And just be lucky I didn’t choose to summon a dragon in the middle of town.”
Calling on Red-Eyes did cross my mind, but that would’ve been a terrible idea. At least most likely. This ‘golem carriage’ is a lot more reasonable than a full blown dragon.
We made it to the east gate in, what I can only assume, record time.
“Zay get out and tell the guard the situation.” I ordered Zay as I stopped Overdrive.
Zay did as ordered and began explaining the incoming wyvern attack to the guard. It’s interesting that there is only one guard at each gate. Rico’s father was alone as well. Perhaps there are two, but one goes for patrols every now and then. Or there is just one, because the town is so small.
I turn towards Alice and ask her, “Are you sure you want to come? It’s not too late to turn back now.”
“No. I want to come.” She answered.
“I really don’t know how strong these wyverns are going to be, so I can’t promise you will be completely unhurt.” I told her. “If you want, you can stay inside of this summon. It should do a decent job at protecting you.”
“Would that be better for you?” Alice asked.
“I don’t know. In all honesty, the best place for you would be with Mana and Dark Magician.” I told her. “They are the strongest monsters I have, so they should keep you safe. Sadly, I think I have to use at least one of them as an attacking force.” I’m not saying Red-Eyes couldn’t do it. And I do have two Dark Magicians. So I could give one of them, and Mana, to Alice, but still.
“I’ll be fine with just Mana.” Alice answered.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. She’ll take care of me.”
“Okay.” I pulled up my pack opener and took out Dark Magician Girl and one Red Medicine. I handed them both to Alice. “Here. Once the wyverns appear, summon Mana. The other card is in case you get hurt. Immediately use it on yourself.” I told Alice.
“It’s a potion?”
“Yes.” I told her. “And as I said, don’t hesitate to use it.” I did get three of them.
Zay got back into Overdrive and ordered us to move forward.
“So you explained the situation?” I confirmed.
“Yes. It took longer for me to explain this golem.” He answered. “Now, let’s go.”
We made it to a group of adventurers and Zayaan told me to stop there. He got out and started talking with two of them. One archer and one with a greatsword. Members of the B-rank party, perhaps?
I didn’t overhear much of it, but the ‘Are you serious?’ shout was heard by everyone. Well, can’t blame him that much for getting flustered. Technically his party is who lead the wyverns here.
Zayaan made his way back over to me and said: “Brian, could I ask you to go get the other members Diamond sword and Prime Rib? I would like to stay here and make a plan.”
“I don’t think this APC can carry that many people.” I answered. There was space for two up front, but Alice and I were occupying them, and four in the back. And I’m not about to leave Alice behind.
“You could just make multiple trips.” He answered. “That thing is quite fast.”
“Well, I could.”
“And they are in two different places anyway.” He told me. “Lucia and Rico should be near the north gate, while two members of Diamond sword are by the south one. Alex and the last Diamond sword member are by the west gate, but we might not have time to get everyone.”
“Fine. How should I get first?” I asked.
“Get the Diamond sword members.” He answered.
“And how will they trust me?” I asked.
“...I don’t know. Actually, just go get Alice and Rico from the north gate.” He changed his mind. This is where not having a reputation is biting me in the but.
“We could use this.” Alice said and brought out a pendant with the Watchman family crest. It was a shield with a clock face on it. Interesting. I don’t think I’ve seen a single clock sense coming to this world, but they seemingly do exist.
“Young lady is a Watchman?” One of the members of Diamond sword asked, seeming suppriced.
“Yes. My name is Alice Watchman.” Alice said with confidence.
“Then, I’m sure my party will listen to you. Take this as well.” He said and tossed me a card. It’s one of those dungeon cards. So he has one from a different town. “You can use that as proof that I asked you to get them.” I quickly check the card. So his name is Jack. Without the Atlas.
“Thanks.” I said to him. “Well be off.”

Our first trip was now again to the south gate. We picked up two more members of Diamond sword. Thankfully we didn’t even need Alice’s pendant to get them to come with us. After hearing about the wyverns, they gave the adventurers orders to head back into town and came with us. These people are way too believing. I could ruin a town with a simple lie.
We quickly made our way back to the east side, and dropped the two of them off.
Now to get Lucia and Rico.
—
For an offroad vehicle, the seats on Overdrive don’t feel as comfortable as I hoped. It wasn’t bad when we were going on the roads, but now that I’m blasting through the grassy plains, the bumps are starting to hurt. Thankfully, this should’ve been the last trip. Zay did say I wouldn’t need to get the two last guys.
I saw Lucia in the distance, with Yata-Garasu on her shoulder. So he is here. I hope he delivered the messages.
(I had Yata-Garasu come back here and tell them to wait for pick up.) Laura told me. You are again like four steps ahead of me.
“Hey, you two. Get in.” I told them as I opened the door.
“Brian. We were waiting.” Lucia said to me.
“About time.” Rico was as impatient as ever. We are headed to combat, you know.
“You brought out some interesting summons again.” Lucia said to me as she was petting the spirit crow. Can she do that? I thought her hand would pass through it.
“Yeah, I guess.” I answered. “Can you give Yata back to me. I’ll unsummon him now.”
“Can’t he stay?” Lucia asked.
“No.” I answered. If the number of times I can use him is limited by the summoning time, I don’t want to waste it. Yata takes off from Lucia's shoulder and lands on my DiaDhank. He then disappeared back into his card. I took the card off of the DiaDhank. It really didn’t vanish like the others. But I do see a scratch in it, so it did get damaged.
Lucia and Rico got into Overdrive and we took off towards the east gate.
—
As we made it back there, I saw some guards there with the adventurers. I think Rico’s dad is there and the two who have the ‘Card summoner’ skill seem to be present as well.
I stop Overdrive a little ways away from them, to not scare them. No drive by skid stops.
I got out with Lucia and Rico. Alice stayed inside.
“You made it.” Zayaan said. “A wind mage has spotted something flying in this direction. They’ll be here soon.”
“So… Do we have a plan?” I asked him. That’s what they have been doing, right? Coming up with a plan.
“Not really.” He answered, holding his head down. “We have at least six wyverns coming. Taking down that many won’t be easy. Our only plan is to have bows and magic shoot at them, hope we hit them enough that they fall down and then cut off their heads.”
“So I bring the gang together, just so we can die together?” I joked. “Do I really have to do everything here?”
“Can you take them all down?” Zay asked.
“All jokes aside, probably not.” I answered. Even with Red-Eyes and two Dark Magicians, six might be too many. I could have Alice summon Dark Magician Girl and someone else summon Slot Machine. That might do it. At least we should be able to bring them to the ground.
“But I did come up with a plan.” I told him. “We’ll use my summons to bring them down. And then, well, hope that we can finish them off.”
“If you think that will work.” Zayaan said. “What summons will we use?”
“You weren’t there yesterday, so you don’t know about the magician I can summon.” I said to him.
“I did hear about them.” Zay answered.
“Well, I’ll summon them and a dragon.” I said to him. “And I was thinking of giving the golem I used to clear the forest to someone else to summon.”
“Could I do it?” He asked.
“I think Lucia might be the best choice. She is in the backline anyway and you should be ready to go in after we hopefully bring them down.” I told him.
“Well, that’s the best plan yet.” Zayaan answered. “I’ll tell everyone we’ll do that.”
Why did I have to come up with a plan? This plan is ass. But it might still work.
Let’s just hope for the best.
