Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Battle at Moonlight Pagoda Part I

Four days later, Li Yingshan was leaning sideways in her Crescent Throne, holding her head in three fingers while her elbow rested on the chair's arm. She wore a cyan blue and coral pink Qiyao Ruqun that had Jianxiuarrow sleeve, so narrowed sleeves easier for doing work sleeves. A single silver pin held the tied hair that had a small loop of hair that folded down from her high ponytail. A silver and pearl necklace iced her collarbone.

In front of her, the Pagoda Elders were bickering endlessly. She pinched the bridge of her nose, wanting to drown out all of the noise.

I hope the Moonlight Pearl is safe. If the Moonlight Pearl is destroyed, my internal force will dissipate. I don't mind losing my martial arts after the Ninth Prince ascends the throne, but I can't beforehand.

"Goddess, please decide!" all four requested at once.

She opened her eyes and sat up straight. "Very well. First Elder, you can watch the east side. Second Elder, I'll trust you with the west side. Fourth Elder, you're the strongest of all the Pagoda Elders, so I'll entrust the south side to you. I doubt they'll attack from behind, but I still want some people stationed there just in case. Third Elder, you're just recovering from some injuries. So you can stand with me to protect the front. If things get too dangerous, I'll send you inside."

The Pagoda Elders all bowed, accepting her judgement. She waved her hand, indicating their dismissal. They bowed a bit lower before exiting. Now left alone, Li Yingshan sighed and massaged her temples. Her headaches were getting worse and worse with each that passed.

"Goddess."

She glanced up and saw Miao Chuntao saluting.

"What is it?"

"The Crown Prince and his battalions are here."

Her eyes narrowed as she stood up. Hatred brewed in her heart.

"Bring His Highness here. I have something important to ask him."

"Yes, Goddess," Miao Chuntao said as she bowed.

She retreated, and Li Yingshan sat back down. Worry filled her. Absentmindedly picking at her nails, she hoped Moonlight Pagoda wouldn't suffer too much.

FIfteen minutes later, Miao Chuntao and Bai Henbie entered with ten disciples, escorting none other than the Crown Prince. His eyes widened upon seeing the figure seated in the Crescent Throne.

"Y- you're supposed to be dead!"

"Yes, well, I'm not," she replied evenly.

"Pity. So you're the one who's been helping my ninth brother?"

"So what if I am?"

Li Yingshan raised an eyebrow, challenging him. He clenched his hands tightly and gritted his teeth. Knowing he was outnumbered, the Crown Prince could only seethe silently.

She glanced at everyone in the room before waving her hand. Miao Chuntao, Bai Henbie, and the ten disciples saluted and quietly left the reception room.

ONce they were gone, she asked, "Where's Feifei?"

he scoffed. "What makes you think I'd tell you?"

"She's my nominal daughter. You stole her from me!"

Li Yingshan was about to fly into a rage. She hated the man before her, hated how he had manipulated, lied, broken, and framed her. All she could think about was revenge. And she'd get it in anyway she could.

"I want my daughter back. If Moonlight Pagoda wins this battle, give me Feifei. But if we lose..."

He waited for her, grinning wickedly.

"Spare my Elders and disciples and Feifei. I'll go with you, no complaints. You can kill me for real then."

The Crown Prince tapped his chin, thinking her proposal over. Finally, he agreed with a smile, "Alright."

"Cocky," she muttered.

"I could say the same of you, Third Young Lady Li. Who suggested this to begin with? Do you really think your martial artists can win?"

"Do you think your five battalions are capable enough to win? I defeated General Ru at Huaibei with twenty martial artists."

"General Ru wasn't prepared to deal with martial artists. My men are."

She smiled deviously. "We'll see."

His eyes blazed, and he turned, storming out. As he left Moonlight Pagoda to return to his camp, Miao Chuntao and Bai Henbie entered.

They bowed and said, "Goddess, we're ready whenever."

"Prepare the defenses. Let's save our strength as much as possible and wear them out."

They nodded and left to go relay her orders. She exited the reception room and flew up to the tiled roof of Moonlight Pagoda. Her feet landed on the flat top beam. Turning slowly, her eyes sharpened, watching for any movements. The Crescent Blades appeared in her hands as a strong breeze whipped her flowing skirt around her legs. With a noble countenance, she appeared majestic standing on top of the Pagoda.

Chen Kai, wait and see. Never underestimate an Elite of the Jianghu who has gone through life and death.

She watched as the Imperial troops drew nearer. The Crown Prince was seated on a horse, in the front, leading the charge. Li Yingshan sent up the signal using a special technique of Moonlight Pagoda: Meteor Swords. Multiple illusions of her Crescent Blades appeared around her. They flew down and swept out, aiming for the first battalion.

With that, Miao Chuntao led the ground battle. She and Bai Henbie rushed forward with their swords raised. All five thousands disciples had been gathered for this battle. They had been split evenly amongst the four cardinal directions. So just over twelve hundred disciples followed the two women into battle.

 Li Yingshan spun and watched as Moonlight Pagoda became bombarded on each side. Worry began to fill her heart.

For Feifei.

Glancing down, she noticed that the Crown Prince had snuck in and actually passed under the paifang. Her eyes narrowed.

It's time. Feifei, wait for me.

She put her Crescent Blades away, jumped down, and majestically landed between the Crown Prince and Moonlight Pagoda, with the sounds of screeching steel in the background. The battle had officially begun.

A dao sword appeared in her right hand as she said calmly, "Your Highness. Don't think we'll just let you wander around our home with no oppression. Your opponent today... is me."
