Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Savior

Back in Longxin City, Feng Jingjing raged at her cousin.

"Haoran! Goddess is my savior. Let me help her! Han Shaolei sent word that the Crown Prince and Third Prince are already at headquarters with their men. He also reported that the Fourth and Fifth Princes will be there tomorrow! Do you really want to be widowed so young?!"

"I already was once."

"XU HAORAN, ARE YOU SO COLD-HEARTED?! DO YOU KNOW WHAT SHE'S DONE?! DO YOU KNOW WHY I DIDN'T WANT GODDESS TO GO ALONE?!"

He stood at his desk in his study, watching his cousin yell at him. Feng Jingjing was at her wits end. He sighed.

"What did she do?"

"The Ninth Prince refused to expend his men to help her. So to defeat the Crown Prince and Third Prince, she used Cosmos Raining Hailfire. I saw in a vision before she ever left."

"What is Cosmos Raining Hailfire?"

Feng Jingjing snapped, "If you cared more about her and Moonlight Pagoda, then she might've told you!"

"Spit it out, Jingjing. I don't have the time for this."

And so, she told him. But she was the only one from Moonlight Pagoda who knew what it cost. When Xu Haoran learned that she had given her life, he collapsed into his chair.

"So she's really dead this time?"

"She wanted Feifei back. She'd do anything to get her back, even if it meant dying."

"But did she get her back?"

Feng Jingjing shook her head sadly. "In my vision, the Crown Prince didn't hand her over. So, I doubt he did."

Xu Haoran pinched the bridge of his nose. "Are you sure she's dead?"

"That I'm not sure about actually. My vision ended with her falling from the top of Moonlight Pagoda. Up until now, I assumed she would die during the battle."

"And you don't think she is now?"

"Again, I don't know. My visions only show me so much."

He mulled things over before standing and making his decision. "Stay here. Yingshan entrusted you to me, and Zhang Fangong has the ability to protect you."

"Where are you going?!" she demanded as he made for the door.

Turning in the doorway, he replied, "To save my wife."

Back at Moonlight Pagoda, the sun was just peeking up above the horizon.

Inside her room, Li Yingshan and Chen Chengxian were discussing tactics to best deal with the two coming princes. After two hours, they finally came up with a plan. But unbeknownst to them, Chen Erxing had summoned all troops to attack from the front. She only found out when she flew up to scout from the top beam. Realizing all of their planning had been in vain, she realized what she would have to do.

I need my Elders.

She returned to the balcony and stepped inside. "Your Highness?"

"Hmm?"

"The Third Prince has moved the troops. They're preparing a full frontal attack."

His eyebrows creased with worry. "What do we do now then? I'm sure my fourth and fifth brothers are almost here."

"My Pagoda Elders and I have a powerful formation that can deal with such an attack. Let us take care of the first wave. You and your men can help us with the second wave."

"Very well. Ms. Li, be safe."

She smiled and nodded. "You as well, Your Highness."

They walked out together and flew down together. Chen Chengxian broke off to go speak with his men while Li Yingshan headed off to find her Elders.

When she approached them, they bowed to her. "Greetings, Goddess."

"The royals are preparing a full frontal attack. Are you willing to help me with the Four Cardinals Array?"

They nodded. "Goddess has been good to us. We are willing to fight and die with Goddess."

"Very well. Follow me."

They walked with her to the paifang. As they stood just in front of it, they watched as the Third Prince approached. He was raving mad and yelled at the top of his lungs.

"YOU DAMN MARTIAL ARTISTS! GODDESS LI, I'VE HEARD OF YOU BEFORE! HOW DARE YOU ACT AGAINST MY SEVENTH BROTHER! BECAUSE OF YOU, HE'S DEAD!"

Li Yingshan let a smirk tug at the corner of her lips. "Oh? Chen Kai is finally dead? That's good for me. One less brother for me to deal with then."

"YOU-!"

He ran forward. But his anger and fury made him out of control. As he ran forward with his sword waving wildly, Li Yingshan used the Shooting Stars Maneuver to appear behind him. One of her Crescent Blades appeared, and she swiped it along his neck in a blurred motion. Moments later, his body collapsed. The sword fell beside him.

"Two brothers down, two to go."

She looked around and found an Inner Disciple. "Go and report to His Highness, the Ninth Prince. Tell him his third and seventh brothers are dead."

"Yes, Goddess."

The disciple took off, and the four Pagoda Elders approached her. "Goddess is the best martial artist in the Jianghu. Us Elders don't deserve Goddess' respect."

"Nonsense," she countered. "Every sect needs Elders to curb the leader. I make the Elder exam so difficult because I want strong people who aren't afraid to tell me I'm wrong. My expectations are nearly unattainable, I know that. But you four passed the Elder exam where no one else has been able to. That is a feat in of itself. Don't worry, you have gained my respect from your actions and your intelligence."

Just then, she sensed a rapidly approaching presence. Whipping around, her Crescent Blades appeared in her hands. She crouched, preparing to use Shooting Stars Maneuver to meet the attacker head-on. Behind her, the four Elders also prepared to defend Moonlight Pagoda from this threat.

When the person broke out of the tree line, Li Yingshan shot forward. Her blades moved as fast as lightning, but when they crashed against an all too familiar sword, she froze in shock. Glancing up, seeing the person in front of her actually made her stumble backwards. But her Pagoda Elders misunderstood. They lunged forward, drawing their swords.

Sensing it, Li Yingshan quickly cried, "No! Fall back!"

They immediately retreated a few meters and bowed. Li Yingshan finally regained her composure and put her Crescent Blades away.

"What are you doing here?"

"I came to save you, Xu Yingshan."

She raised an eyebrow. "Save me? Hero Xu, do I look like I need saving?"

"Jingjing said you would fall from the top of Moonlight Pagoda."

Her eyes widened before anger set in. "She knew what was- if she had said something before, I wouldn't have- ugh!"

He stepped closer to her and whispered in her ear, "Is there somewhere we can talk more privately?"

She glared at him before sighing. "There is, follow me."

As she walked past her Pagoda Elders, she commanded, "I'm going to send Miao Chuntao over. If the Fourth and Fifth Princes try anything when they get here, start the Four Cardinals Array. Then, have her come get me."

"Yes, Goddess," they saluted in respect.

Li Yingshan walked inside with Xu Haoran on her heels. She led him over to the hot springs room near the back of the property.

As they entered the building, she explained, "You've seen the martial arts of my Bloodmoon Guardians. They've all soaked here in the hot springs. It helped their internal force increase drastically and without consequences."

"How did you find this place?"

"A Spring Hunt happened here years ago. This area is where I saved the Crown Prince. This area is also where I've now killed the Crown Prince. What a beautiful cycle."

"He's dead?"

"Yes, and so is the Third Prince. Are you going to lecture me now on the consequences of killing royals? All's fair in love and war, Hero Xu. Plus, I wasn't the one looking for this fight. Chen Kai was the one who chose to bring his five battalions here. He's also the one who chose to impale himself on my sword."

"I don't think I even want to know."

"Good, then don't ask." She rounded on him finally and inquired, "Why are you really here? Are you going to drag me back to Longxin City with you? I won't abandon my disciples and Pagoda Elders. I won't abandon my allies."

His eyebrows furrowed as he tilted his head. "Allies?"

"The Ninth Prince, Chen Chengxian, of course. He arrived yesterday and has brought ten thousand men with him."

Xu Haoran's hands clenched into fists. "Jingjing said he didn't come help."

"Her visions don't always show the final outcome. Where did her vision stop?"

"After you fell."

"And before I hit the ground?"

He nodded. She sighed.

If I tell him, it'll only incite jealously. But I don't know why he'd even care. He's already proven he wishes I were still dead. So why is he here?

"What was that sigh for, Xu Yingshan?"

"Nothing, I'm just tired from fighting all day yesterday. Hero Xu, you can stay here. This building is heavily fortified. I don't have time to talk right now. The other two princes are almost here."

She turned to go, but he caught her wrist. "Then let me help you."

Staring at him incredulously, she sputtered, "W- why? The last time we spoke, you were still mad that I'd chosen this. You even said once that I shouldn't make you, Zhang Fangong, Qiu Ling, and my disciples die for me. Why do you care now?"

"I- I was wrong before. I'm sorry, Xu Yingshan."

"Stop calling me that. You made it perfectly clear before that you'd rather I was still dead. Fine. Pretend I'm dead. Move on. If you marry someone else, I won't protest."
