Chapter 197: Shouldn't She Felt More Grateful?

That night, after Guan Xian calm down, Xia Sha accompanied him to the hospital. Xia Sha could not hide that she is getting more worried and upset every time she saw the reflection of herself on the shiny floor. 

She subconsciously tightens her grasp on Guan Xian's arm. Her breathing becomes sharper as the nose-piercing smells of alcohol make a strange muscle on her stomach clenched. She can't help but imagine what her mother had to go through alone, fighting her disease. 

She did not want that to happen again. Not to anyone dear to her heart.

"Are you okay?" Guan Xian stops once he notices Xia Sha's tensed expression. He furrowed his eyebrow as he demands Xia Sha to look into him. 

"I'm okay. I'm just thinking about my mother. Let's see Xiao Ni," Xia Sha answers without looking at Guan Xian. She grabs his arm and fastens her pace. 

Guan Xian furrowed his eyebrow but said nothing. He calmly leads Xia Sha to the VIP wards where Xiao Ni stays. Outside the wards, they find tired-looking Mother Guan, who looks worried. 

"Mom, why hadn't you go home? Where is Dad?" Guan Xian frowned. He looked at the right and left, trying to spot the older man that face he resembles. 

"He is in the toilet. I'm going home soon. Guan Xian, Xia Sha still needs to work tomorrow. Don't stay too long," Mother Guan said in raspy voices. It seems like she had lost her voice after crying for hours. 

"Aunty, I'm fine," Xia Sha comes and a seat next to mother Guan. 

Mother Guan turned to her with a faint smile. She grabs Xia Sha's hand and squeezes it a little. No words are coming out from her, but Xia Sha could felt the warmth from mother Guan.

A low creak from the door steals everybody's attention. Wang Kai comes out with a lifeless face from inside. He seems like he had something to say but hesitant with Xia Sha's presence. Xia Sha realized this and instantly made an excuse. 

"Aunty, I'll buy some warm ginger tea at the cafeteria," she said before she picked her small bag and went. Guan Xian is about to stop her when she gives him a signal to stay. 

And so she wandered on the quiet hospital alone while thinking about her mother and Xiao Ni. The more she walks and smells the alcohol, the more she realized what a fool she had been. Everything that had happened to her, even the betrayal and the pain, had bought her to this position today.

Shouldn't she felt more grateful?

Why are that always extreme and dire situations that make her realized what matters in this life?

Xia Sha stop and suddenly had the impulse to call her mother, but when she see look at the late time, she undeterred and choose to send a message to her mom and dad instead. She bites her lips when she read the short sentence she sends. 

I love you, mom.

I love you, dad.

She felt cringe every time she reread her text. What would they felt when they read it?

Xia Sha, who felt chills on her back when her mind started to project her mother and father's reaction, decided to exit the apps and shoved her phone back. She is about to continue her steps to the cafeteria when someone familiar caught her sight. 

Someone wearing a black hoodie with over black mask is standing on the corner of the hospital. Xia Sha could see her nervous state by looking at her trembling legs. She squinted her eyes to grasped a clear sight of the person's face. 

"Xia Xiang!" She gasped and called out her name as soon as she recognized her. Xia Xiang looks surprised when Xia Sha suddenly called her name. She turned her body around, trying to run away from Xia Sha, but it was too late since Xia Sha had stood before her. 

"I've been searching for you. Where did you go?" Xia Sha looks unhappy when she face Xia Xiang. Xia Xiang averted her gaze from Xia Sha. She pressed her lips into a tight line, refusing to answer her questions. 

Xia Sha furrowed her eyebrow when she got no response from Xia Xiang. She controlled her emotion and started to observe her from head to toe. Xia Xiang remain silent for a long time. 

"I've been trying to get your mother out. But it's not that easy since she did conspire with Tan Kun that night." 

For the first time, Xia Xiang responded to Xia Sha. She shook her head weakly and looked up to Xia Sha with red eyes. Trembling, she replied, "She did not conspire with him. She is just trying to save me."

"I know. Don't worry. I see what I can do. But why are you here this late? Are you hurt?" 

Xia Sha tried to keep her expression natural. But Xia Xiang could felt Xia Sha keeps observing her with worried eyes. Xia Xiang is hesitant to answer Xia Sha. But after complementing for a long time, she decided to tell her the truth. 

"I've been following you these few days. I-" Xia Xiang choked her saliva as she got anxious. 

"What? Where have you been sleeping and eating? Why don't you go to father?" Xia Sha furrowed her eyebrow and pulled her to the nearest chair to sit. 

If it was months ago, Xia Xiang could never dream that Xia Sha would care for her like a sister. There is mutual hatred between them that not even death or beating could solve. However, tonight, Xia Sha's warmth felt like the only good things left in her life. 

"I have no face. My mother, I found out she wanted to ruin your life with Wen Rou and Meng Ran. How could I show my face in front of you again?" Xia Xiang quietly dropped the tear that welled up in her eyes. 

"Why not? There is nothing you need to be ashamed of as long you did nothing wrong. You did not plan or harm me. You could show your face to me anytime. I won't beat you," Xia Sha murmured with slight exasperation on her face. 

Her words might not be pleasant to ears. But the sincerity she never shows Xia Xiang before had touched the deepest hollow of Xia Sha's heart. 

"I'm not accustomed to receiving your kindness. You better hit me and give me food. I felt less pressure that way."

"Nonsense. So you haven't eaten anything? Let's go. I'll buy you something at the cafeteria," Xia Sha grabs Xia Xiang's hand to follow her after. 

Xia Sha's sudden movement takes Xia Xiang by surprise. Her eyes were filled with water when she looked up to Xia Sha. Xia Sha felt something strange inside her. It's weird since she can't ignore Xia Xiang and act as she did before. She almost could not recognize herself when she pulled out a tissue and gave it to Xia Xiang. 

"Come, let's go," she said gently and took her to the cafeteria. 

And so, Xia Xiang bought her meals while Xia Sha ordered tea for mother Guan. They sat across each other and awkwardly trying to avoid meeting each other eyes. It's only until Xia Xiang's meal comes the conversation started to flows between the step-sister. 

"Did Meng Ran still trying to mess with you?" Xia Sha asked carefully while watching Xia Xiang slurping her soups. 

"Eum, she admits herself to a rehabilitation center. Xia Sha, I need to tell you something. Do you remember how they donate money to the charity? It turned out Ling Guang is fooling around with my mother. And my mother also fools around with Yan Xi. Because my mother is in jail, both Ling Guang and Meng Ran had no money to do anything," Xia Xiang mumbles in a low voice. She had lost all of her confidence and spirit. 

Xia Sha was stunned for a moment. She could barely think before she took a deep breath. She knew Pang Ze Tian is crazy, but she did not expect her to be this 'crazy.' How could her father sleep with her every night?

"How could you know about everything?" Xia Sha tried to divert her mind from thinking about Pang Ze Tian's crazy action. She did not want to get affected by her craziness. 

"My mother confessed when I visit her. I'm so ashamed that I don't even know what to say. Xia Sha, I apologize to you for everything. You are right. It was your home from day one. My mom and I are indeed the thorns in your life," Xia Xiang lowered her head and smiled weakly to herself.

"Xia Sha, I'm so glad you found your happiness with Guan Xian. Happiness looks good on you. I could not give you anything nor that I could pay you back. But I'm glad you are in a good place right now," Xia Xiang sincerely said to Xia Sha. 

Xia Sha smiles back at her and grasps her hand, "You too, I believe and pray that you are in a good place now."

"Yes, I planned to go to the rehabilitation center too after I met my biological father. Xia Sha, could you give me his number? My mom took it from me the other day," Xia Xiang asked with solemn peace on her face. 

Xia Sha agreed, but she asked Xia Xiang to went back to her apartment with her. Xia Xiang refuses. She thinks she had received enough kindness from Xia Sha. Xia Xiang did not want to make her think that she had another motive upon meeting her here. 

Following her like a stalker is suspicious enough. 

"I'll book a hotel room for you, wait," Xia Sha decides for Xia Xiang after she notices her uneasiness. But before she could do anything, a sudden call from Zheng Shuang pops on her phone. 

"XIA SHA! KAI XIN! KAI XIN! SHE FALLS ON THE TOILET.. NOW THERE IS BLOOD EVERYWHERE. WHAT TO DO?"
