“Of course, Father…” I replied, curious about what he had to say.

He sat down on the other side of my bed and took a deep breath. I watched him absentmindedly, my hands resting on my legs.

“How do you like your room? Is it to your liking?”

“Yes, it’s hard to believe that it’s all mine…”

“It’s all yours, Dante.”

"Father, what is it?" I asked, sensing that he had something important to tell me.

He hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Do you remember when we visited you and Thomas in the hospital?"

“Yes?”

"I'd like to apologize for my behavior during that time. I wasn't in a right state of mind, and it was the worst thing I could ever do as a father."

“Father…” He actually apologized to me? I felt so touched, what is the catch with this? He never sat down with me, and talked with me… Why is he talking with me now? Is it because of what happened to both I And Thomas?

But… did it really take me almost being killed for him to finally realize his wrongdoings?

Wait…

He’s crying?

“Dante, don’t forget about… what I told you, okay?”

“Of course… but you’ve already told me that, Father.”

“Ah- r- right…” Father stuttered, abruptly standing up as he wiped his tears off his face, turning his head towards the door. “I should be going now, take ca-”

“Father…” I interrupted. I stood up and walked towards him, my heart pounding like never before.

“It’s okay, Father.”

After hearing those words…

He stopped walking, his countenance full of regret and sadness, as his eyebrows furrowed, trying his hardest to hold back his tears, I tried to reassure him. Standing behind his back.

“In the end, we’re still alive, and together. That’s what truly matters, doesn’t it?”

“Yes, son. In the end… that’s what really matters.”

Whatever excuse he might have for wanting to talk with me, I wouldn’t want to hear it. Father had for once in my entire life talked with me. Even if it was sudden, and short, he talked with me, and expressed a genuine emotion. At first, I was filled with doubt, thinking that it’s because of the incident that he wanted to talk with me. But it goes further than that. Even he must have had a reason for his behavior towards us. Not knowing what it was, I simply turned my head from it, hoping, that Father will continue to talk with me, because that is what I truly wanted the most out of him.

“Your mother is making us some food, you must be hungry, right?”

“Indeed I am, I’m feeling very hungry.”

“I’ll see you downstairs, then.”

…..

My feet remained firmly planted in one spot for several minutes as I stood there staring at the closed door. The events of the day seemed otherworldly.

“Oooi, Ellie!”

“Whaaa?”

“That’s my ball! Give it back”

“Hehehe! Come and get it!”

The sound of my siblings playing brought me back to reality. I walked toward the slightly open window that overlooked the large garden where they were playing. In the far corner stood a small shed that caught my attention. It appeared more abandoned than the rest of the house, hidden among the trees and leaves as the sun shone down on its roof. Although there were many things I wanted to explore in this house, that shed in particular piqued my interest.

It somehow reminded me of Annabelle. The structure and overall aesthetic of the little shed brought her to mind. Perhaps it was because of its vivid appearance. Nature is undoubtedly a beautiful aspect of this world, and she always shared her experiences with nature while I was settled in the hospital.

…..

"Hey, Dante. Have you ever thought about jumping into the forest? Just looking at it from above really triggers my intrusive thoughts."

“Belle, don’t be so reckless, you’re already as fragile as you can get.”

“Wha?! Excuse me? You haven’t heard most about what I had experienced in the forests!”

“Well, you’ve already told me most of it.”

“Yes! So how dare you assume I’m so fragile?”

“Ehhhh…”

"Heh, speechless. And you have nothing to say for yourself; you're even skinnier than I am!"

“Jeez, Belle! Not so loud…”

"...Anyway, when we happen to see each other again, I'm taking you to the forest with me."

“It was already settled as soon as you showed me your love for nature, Belle.”

“Yes, yes… But I just don’t want you to forget.”

“I never could.”

“……”

“Say, Dante.”

“Yes?”

“Do you think all aristocrats are bad?”

"Well, not necessarily. However, their world must be put in its rightful place. Most are corrupted by their own capabilities and have the audacity to believe they have transcended beyond humanity. They must learn the truth, and if blood must be spilled, then so be it."

“R- right…”

(Abella’s POV)

He said that blood must be spilled…

But then, what about my family?

…..

Having suddenly being asked to serve under Dennis his household could not be further from a reasonable decision, at all.

I planted my hand against my chest,

“I didn’t sell my soul for nothing… This will be the first step into greatness.”

“…Anabelle’s tears, as well as her brother’s death will not go in vain. The Devil knows about my desires, he knows, that what comes around, goes around.”

"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows."
