"Proceed, my lord." implored the physician, bowing his head deferentially, his countenance betraying a palpable sense of nervousness whenever that particular individual was present. I, too, shared in his apprehension, though my impassive visage belied my true emotions.

"Greetings, Dante!" exclaimed Dennis, his countenance alight with exuberance.

Once more, they had arrived attired in their opulent attire, yet now that Thomas had awakened, I would no longer have to endure the constant attention.

"You must be Thomas, correct?" queried Dennis, gesturing towards Thomas.

Thomas nodded in affirmation, his demeanor betraying a palpable sense of nervousness akin to my own.

"Your injuries appear to be healing nicely..." Dennis observed.

Mother, startled by the sudden intrusion, attempted to rise from her seat, her oversized, soiled pink dress hampering her movements.

"How unbecoming of me, I am Dante's mother, and these two are my children. Noah, and Madison."

"A pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Dennis, proprietor of Lucent Co., and this is my wife, Trecia, and our children, Esther and Sebastian." Dennis reciprocated, shaking Mother's hand.

I had not even taken note of Esther's presence, her beauty was truly striking, and I was taken aback by her apparent fondness towards me.

"Hello, Dante." she greeted, standing before me. A peculiar sensation washed over me, as though I had known her for an age.

"Good day, Esther." I replied. "Did you sleep well?"

Her eyes were captivating, her voice the only one I could hear amidst the cacophony of voices around us, their sounds, slowly fading away, as all my scrutiny laid on the soft sound of her voice.

"I slept well-"

"What is happening here? Who are these people?" boomed a voice, interrupting our conversation.

It was Father, returning with a large sack in hand. His brusque tone drew the attention of all present.

"Honey, there is no need to be upset." Mother reassured.

"We did not come uninvited, sir. I am Dennis, owner of Lucent Co. My family and I have come to visit your son and Sir Thomas." Dennis explained.

"Y- You're Dennis..." stammered Father, extending his hand in greeting.

"Indeed, it is a pleasure to see you again. Your name is John, correct?" Dennis affirmed.

"Yes, I am John. Likewise, sir..."

It was an unusual sight, to see Father so flustered, but understandable, given that the proprietors of such companies are often shrouded in anonymity. It was a rare opportunity to encounter one face-to-face.

"Well, Dante, I got your present."

"Well, Dante, I have your present." Father announced, rummaging through the sack. He produced a silver ring, adorned with a small red diamond, the dirty hands of Father holding such a beautiful and radiant ring seemed incongruous. As if it symbolized an unfortunate beautiful Angel fallen onto this forsaken world full of dusk.

"Is this for me...?" I inquired.

"Yes, dear. Take good care of it." Mother said, patting my back.

"Thank you, Mother." I expressed, overcome with emotion.

The ring fit perfectly on my pointer finger, and I was relieved it was not too large given the slenderness of my hands. It was not a particularly large ring, and it was clear that Mother had chosen it with care.

"It looks lovely on you, Dante." Esther complimented, her smile gentle.

"Thank you, Esther, you can never look bad either."

Upon Esther's expression of gratitude, I had unthinkingly offered a flippant remark that, upon retrospect, I found to be inordinately inane. My cognitive faculties were momentarily suspended in disbelief at my own statement...

To my amazement, Esther responded with a melodic chortle and nonchalantly brushed her tresses, while fixing me with a gaze.

"Thank you, Dante." she replied, with a hint of mirth in her tone.

"Well, well, well, it appears as though the two of you are getting along famously." interjected Dennis, as he clapped me heartily on the shoulder, causing a slight twinge of discomfort. I feigned a grin, dismissing the physical discomfort.

As I inadvertently cast my gaze over Esther's shoulder, my attention was caught by the sight of Annabelle's visage peeking over Esther's shoulder, her eyes fixed intently upon me. This sudden revelation startled me, and before I could react, she fled the scene, her footfalls echoing in the distance.

I couldn't help but ponder, had she been surreptitiously following us all along to this room?
