A gust of wind swept through the forest. A young teen raised his arm to block the wind from hitting his face. He looked up at the dark, stormy sky then a loud roar came from upahead. Startled, he looked upahead and another loud roar resounded from that direction. With a speed as fast as lightning, he was at the scene in no time.
He arrived at a part of the forest with it's trees broken, branches and parts of the trees fallen to the ground, and a giant monster just ahead of him. The monster was two metres twenty centimetres tall, with light blue scales. It's head was like a crocodile's, and it's body was wide and similar to a crocodile's. It's legs was also similar to that of a croc.
On the ground was it's long tail that had been severed from it's body, the culprit standing right beside it. The culprit was a young child, in his left harm was a long, thin blade wrapped in old bandages, his face covered in the blood of the monster.
The giant monster wailed in pain, it's fangs visible, and it's bright green eyes wide open. Suddenly, the monster started to move. It ran wildly as if seeing it's chances of winning were low. The child then also chased after it, matching it's speed then he leapt up, he's sword in hand. The sword was engulfed in a layer of red light emanating a dangerous aura that couldn't be easily sensed.
The child lunged down towards the back of the monster's neck. As the blade was about to cut down, a water sphere suddenly enveloped the monster and the child. Nothing could be seen clearly only the outline of the two figures. Then out of the sphere came the young kid. He was pushed to the ground by the current of the sphere.
The boy stood from the ground drenched in water giving a small grin then dashed toward the moving sphere. Leaping up once again,he lunge at the monster's neck, the red light from the sword becoming heavier. With the sword held by both hand, he cut a path through the water sphere with the red light and went straight down to the monster's neck cutting it.
Everything happened in a little less than ten second and at the end the monster was sliced through followed by a dying roar it fell to the ground and died. The water from the sphere splashed all over almost touching the teen but he docked. He watched the child intently, who was drenched. The monster's body released a black gas¹ that was escaping, but it was strock by a magic fire² from the boy.
The boy sheathed the sword into it's sheath on his back, then pulled out a small knife with it's blade made from the fang of a iron toothed grey wolf ³. He crouched down at the front of the monster's chest and stabbed the heart of the monster. The boy opened a gap, stuck his hand through it then he searched for a while, then he brought his hand out. A glowing blue orb was held in his hand. It was the core⁴ of the monster, it glowed for a while then stopped.
The child then held the core next to a silver storage ring⁵ then it disappeared. He took out a rag, then cleaned his hand and blade, then sheathed the knife and kept the rag. He stood up, looked at the teen behind him only to meet his intent gaze. When the teen saw the child's round grey eyes, he couldn't help but think they were beautiful.
The child then shrugged and looked at the dark clouds, the winds picking up. He turned around and walked in the direction of the broken trees, his figure disappearing into the dark forest.
The teen wanted to call out to him, stretching his hand forward, but he dropped his hand back down. He walked forward towards the monster's body inspecting it for a while, then stood up and also looked at the dark clouds.
"It's going to rain." He said walking away in the direction the child went
The teen stood in front of a cave entrance. Around, were tall trees with lush green leaves. The rain had started to drizzle wetting the teen. He entered the dark cave with a small gem⁶ that emmited a bright light in hand. The gem lightened the cave, lightening his path as he walked deeper into the cave.
He arrived at a large spacious area. In front of him,sat the young child, kneeling in front of branches of woods and some leaves. The boy's hand glowed red touching the branches, it engulfed in flames.
The fire lit up the cave, making the teen feel that there was no use for the gem to keep on glowing. So he stop imbuing his mana into it, causing it to no longer glow,he then stored it in his golden storage ring.
'What a coincidence' he thought
"Mind if I join you?" He then asked
"No problem". The kid replied as he shuffled to sit near the cave walls.
The teen then put down a black piece of clothing on the ground, lifting the bottom of his sleeveless jacket that reached his knee, and then sat on the cloth.
The rain had already started falling outside, making the outside cold, dark and wet. But
the inside of the cave was unaffected by the cold, in addition to the warmth of the fire the cave was warm and cozy.
With neither of the two individuals talking, the cave was relatively silent. Only the flickering of the fire and the faint sounds of rain could be heard.
The silence was becoming awkward, but the young child didn't seem to mind. He was busy flipping a copper coin, watching the results. His eyes following every movement of the coin, guessing the results. The coin made a "click" sound as it moved.
" By the way, I'm Ashli⁷, thirteen years old elemental sorcerer. May I trouble you to tell me your name?" The teenager, Ashli, asked politely.
" Gorin⁸, ten year old elemental sorcerer." The child, Gorin, answered his attention on the flipping coin.
"Well Gorin, that demonic beast⁹ you fought earlier, do you perhaps know where it came from?"
" 'cause the water sphere crocodile¹⁰ don't live in this kind of habitat. So it's quite uncommon for their bodies to be found here." Ashli said
Gorin flipped the coin, watching it intently and Ashli couldn't help looking also. The coin flipped a few times in the air an then landed on his open palm.
The coin face that was up, showed a king's head on it wearing a crown, it was heads. He sighed, his eyes showing disappointment. He closed his palm and looked at Ashli, who was already looking at him.
"I don't know where it came from." Gorin answered
" Was there anything strange about it when you found it?" Ashli asked
"Well, when I found it, it was running madly roaring and breaking down trees, running very fast." Gorin answered
"Hmmm, what could make such a huge beast so scared?" Ashli wondered, pondering to himself.

"Personally, I don't think it was scared, more like it was trying to escape." Gorin commented, starting to flip the coin again
' I wouldn't be able to solve this on my own, better to write back home and let them handle it.' Ashli thought sighing
" YES!" Gorin exclaimed in excitement, given a smile.
On his palm, at the centre, was the coin. It's face was now on tails. It had a picture of a large scaly beast with a horn and four legs. The beast was stabbed through the chest by a long sword, which went through it's body.
Gorin let out a laugh, stored the coin into his pocket and laid flat on the ground with his hand out. He looked at the top of the cave, then turned and faced the cave wall, his back facing Ashli. He then went to sleep.
Ashli looked at him then let out a smile. Ashli then closed his eyes falling asleep.
The next morning, before dawn, Ashli woke up. Gorin was nowhere to be found. Ashli stood up stretched a little, taking the piece of clothing of the ground and storing it, then he walked out of the cave .
Outside was damp, the leaves of the plants had a few droplets of water on them, which gently rolled down landing on the damp grassy floor. Ashli came out of the cave, the sun shining drying the environment.

Note
Hello, this is where I explain those numbered words in the chapter.
¹. The black gas are impurities after refining one's mana. If enough can take over bodies of monsters of even humans with magic that are weaker than them and corrupt them.
². The magic fire is just a fire made by those with fire elemental power.
³. Iron toothed grey wolves are magic beast, who possess iron element which makes them naturally born with iron teeth and claws. Their claws and teeth are used in weapon making.
⁴. The core is a ball that stores pure mana. When it gathers mana, it grows until it reaches a certain stage where it changes color. The mana the sorcerers use come from there.
⁵. A storage ring is a ring that allows you to store things in it. The ring has different storage size and the expensive ones has very large spaces.
The silver ring has about one hundred metre cube storage space. The gold ring on the other hand, has up to six hundred metre cube storage space.
⁶. The small gem is called a light crystal. It emits light when mana is imbued into it.
⁷. Ashli is a name in my language for the story meaning ' lightning child '.
⁸. Gorin is another name in my language.
⁹. Demonic beast are those monsters formed when the impurities corrupt the core and take over the body. They can also be formed when a recently killed beast is taken over by impurities mutating them.
¹⁰. Water sphere crocodiles are water elemental magic beast who can control water to form a sphere. In the sphere, they are surrounded by a protective air bubble letting them breath.
The sphere rotates in fast moving currents and can blow away those that get inside it to their deaths.
The crocodiles are blue in colour and a little larger than a croc.
The monster above was a water sphere crocodile which now has been taken over making it bigger.
