John looked one last time at the clearing behind him and let his gaze wander to the Moose Monarch. It all felt like a dream to him.

                                ***

"So, tell me. What are you? Neither human or beast? Why are you with humans?"

Pond was talking to Wer. After John agreed with his terms he "lend" him Big Wolf to make things go faster. Especially after he knew how easily humans died.

Short story. He kept those three here to hear some things about the outside world and let John fetch the dying humans.

It was easy, he kept one male and female human. The other was kept for curiosity purpose.

Wer was thinking about the question. It was an easy one but why couldn't she define what she was?

"My ancestors were a human and a monster, I guess? We are called Hybrids and aren't welcome in both circles.. we have a land of our own but we have to fight humans and beasts.."

Pond was puzzled, why would they have to though? Weren't they an example that both could live together?

"Hmm, is it because life isn't endless? Or maybe because everybody wants more? No the former is probably the reason."

The trio which was left didn't know how to answer. What kind of question was that?

"No need to be on toes. I just thought to myself. You, human male called Sammy. Tell me about the world you know."

                              ***

John couldn't describe the feeling he had. He actually rode on a Monarch! It wasn't a pleasure trip but the memorie alone would make him dream about it till the end of days!

The problem would be how people will react to his ride. The spirit/god told him that he will not attack humans for the duration of his trip. What would happen if someone attacked it though?

There was no reason to fret about it. With the speed they were going. They would only need a hour or two till Frym. He just hoped that the guards at the gate won't attack on sight. Not that they would stand a chance.

                              ***

Inside the Adventurer Guild in Frym. At the top floor was an old man sitting behind his desk with tired eyes. Why was it his little city which got hit by this curse?

A knock came from the door and the man saw a women enter. Her her was white as snow with a body that would let men call exquisite.

"Grandpa Mel, you seem tired?" The women gazed at Guildmaster Mel with love in her eyes.

The tiredness of Mel vanished when he saw the women.

"Little Jen, look how you've grown up! If this old man didn't know better he would say you were an angel."

Jennifer Lofthe was once an adventurer of the city of Fyrm. After her 17th birthday she officialy joined the capitals guild and was trained in combat there.

With a tender age of 24 she got the A-Rank title and was near to be the first one to be ranked as Slayer since several dozen years.

Mel could still remember the little girl which didn't gave up from setback after setback.

"Mhm and if I didn't knew better I would think your a zombie!" A chuckle was heard from them both. Mel was like a Grandfather to Jen. Vica versa it was the same.

"So, what brings you here in these forlorn times? Don't tell me you want to help this place. We all know that the only cure to this is the Star Flower. Don't even think about going to that place.. we already lost 3 of our people.."

Mel sighed when he thought back to yesterday when he got a report.

The only C-Adventurer they had actually did go to that deathzone. How he regreted not to have known it sooner. He knew all of his adventurers. Thats why he should have known that as soon John knew of a cure he would risk his live.

"Is it that bad? The capital may not have the ability to cure those who are already on the verge of death..peoole like you can be healed though. Please come with me. As for those three who left to Star Mountain.. they knew what their end would be as adventurers."

Jen wasn't one to talk around the subject. It wasn't her style, not now as well not as a child.

Mel looked at Jen and sighed.

"You only say that because you don't know who... Can you remember the group called Firm Dream?" Mel looked at Jen witj saddend eyes. He knew very well that she would remember that name.

Jen was pale when she heard that.

"Weren't they out of town on a quest when that thing hit?! Why would the-they?!" Jen had red eyes. She rememberd how there was no group which would take her on quests. Until she meet a trio of weird people.

At first she was even the one to decline their invitation until Mel told her who they were. The girl Tania, was once a mage from the capital which was homesick and came back.

The man called John was a Guard Captain of the port town Miria, which came back to marry his child sweetheart.

The other man, Sammy, was the best thief and grave robber there was in this part of the outer ring.

They took her in and thaught her all they had known, she slurped it up like a sponge. Half, no maybe most, of her achievments today was from the teaching of those three. One thaught her magic and wisdom, one teached her close combat and what honor and pride meant.

As for the last one? Maybe she couldn't say it didn't clash with the principals of the former but it sure helped her in many situations. Stealth and slyness, she even learned how to gamble.

"John's wife and daughter..they are among those who had it the worst.. I don't know why but a Wolf Hybrid told him about the Star Flower. It was too late when I got the report"

Mel sighed, how he loathed this old shell of his. If he was only younger. He would have slaped John to normality and tried to fetch some flowers himsel!

"I-I see..." Jen tried to calm her mind. She was too late.

As the silence in the room grew heavier there were heavy footsteps outside before the door flung open.

"G-G-Guildm-m-master! M-M-Mona-a-arch! C-c-comi--ing!" The person who couldn't even speak properly anymore slumped unconscious to the ground.

The duo in the room was flabbergasted when they heard that. Monarch?! Wasn't the Parasol Monarch the only one who came down from the mountains?

"Isn't that like chopping of your own leg by doing this?" Pond was puzzled. Humans weren't cunning! They were dumb!

After habing questioned the trio before him for some hours he got more and more shocked.

First of all, the world they knew was just a continent. They knew that there were others but the water surrounding them was full of danger.

Most expiditions didn't come back, even rarer that they told about other lands. Thesecond thing how this continent was divided.

There was the inner core, the outer core, inner circle and outer circle. Better explained. The inner core was where the shitty humans lived, the outer core their subordinates.

The circle were mostly made out of farmers and advenuters. Or what pond thought. Those who gave the meals and riches to the core, those who defended from monsters which came out of the sea.

Hybrids were centered in the inner circle in the northwest of the core. They weren't attacked there and he knew the reason. That was the place which was most frequently attacked by sea.

It seemed that the big ones told the truth, just not the whole. Better said, they didn't know the whole.

It was easily explained. Core used the people in the circle. Circle people hated monster because they had to fight them to survive. Most probably didn't those in the core even knew what a real monster was like.

Even Tania who was once stusying in the capital left the olace because she couldn't bear the shame of using the lives of her homeplace anymore.

She cried when she told him how those were most probably the humans he knew about from the Monarchs.

He asked Bear and Wolf what they thought, Beetle didn't go outside anyway. He could confirm with them that humans really didn't attack them if they didn't go out.

A bad feeling overcame Pond after thinking about that. Didn't he send Moose with that John guy?

Luckily he could envision what those who drank from him saw around it. If he wasn't made out of water he would have backflipped from what he saw.

"Didn't he say only 2 people?!?"
