Chapter 15: Test 1: “The Delivery” 5

This person that had just entered the shack was named Fred, he was a D ranker, and had just joined the Reader's Challenges, he tried to remove the obvious threat to him here, which was the only C ranker he saw, Crow Rovern.

Of course, he wouldn't stand a chance against Crow himself, and so, this was a golden opportunity for him, to be able to eliminate Crow Rovern from the test, even though Saul was also a threat he had to deal with.

He was still confident he could overwhelm him with numbers, unfortunately, that wouldn't work against a C ranker such as Crow, especially since Crow wasn't just a normal C ranker, he wasn't even sure if his older brother could win against him.

And so, he was now inside the shack, in front of him stood three people, they were, Emily, Zafira, and Martin, they seemed to be on guard against him, unfortunately for them, he hadn't come alone, he had brought with him two other D rankers.

Those two entered the shack seconds after Fred had entered. Emily readied herself, it seemed like she was a martial artist, and so, only needed her body to fight, on the other hand, Zafira picked up a little badge from a pocket inside her dress.

After clicking on a button on the badge, the badge expanded to become a sickle, it was a D rank weapon, she struck a pose, and waited for the intruders to attack. At the same time, Martin seemed to hesitate for a second, before he clicked on the white bracelet he wore on his wrist.

In the next second, the bracelet transformed into a cardholder (Note/ imagine Yugio), he immediately put two cards in it, they both had a picture of a grey wolf on them, though, one had a foot drawn on it, and the other had a fist instead.

He was just about to bring out the third card, but couldn't, as he had to dodge an oncoming attack from a punch directed at him by one of the two that had come with Fred.

Suddenly, Martin's hands started to transform, his feet as well, they became similar to the body parts of a grey wolf, his aura surged forward, and he let out a small roar, that struck terror in the person that had just attacked him.

This was an item used by many, it was called a Cardholder, you put a card in it, and gain the abilities of the monster you had, though you could only use monsters that fit your rank in power, and as such, the grey wolf that Martin was using was a D rank monster.

Still, the grey wolf was known to be one of the strongest monsters in D rank, this card was bought, and gifted to him by his father, so that he could perform well inside the Reader's Challenges.

These cards were sold everywhere, though they only reached rank A, if you wanted to continue in this power system, you had to hunt monsters of S rank, and SS rank eventually, of course, you also had to learn the technique of integrating the monsters powers inside a card, which became harder the higher the rank of the monster.

There were five cards Martin knew about for each monster, every card had the picture of the monster used drawn on it, as well as the type of card it was, one had a fist, which obviously meant it was used for fighting.

Another had a foot, this one was used mainly for running, but, it could also be used to fight, the third one, which Matin didn't have the chance to use, had a + drawn on it, this one was used for healing.

It couldn't heal serious injuries, but it still helped, and completely healed minor ones. Then there were two more types, the first one had a shield drawn on it, and this one was used for defense.

And the final one had nothing but the picture of the monster drawn on it, this card needed to be used with all the other cards at the same time, it was also the strongest card, this card was called, "Complete Transformation".

This meant, you would transform into a humanoid version of the monster, this could only be used according to a time limit, that became bigger the more you trained with it, but the power it gave the user, was simply immense.

Unfortunately, Martin only owned three types at the moment, a fighting one, a running one, and a healing one, that he couldn't use because of the situation he was in at the moment.

That same person that had tried to punch Martin only seconds ago, retreated after hearing the scary roar that Martin unleashed, he said under his breath, "A Cardholder user! dammit!".

"Don't you dare run away!", said Fred to the man, the man nodded and attacked again, Martin blocked the punch quite easily, now that his hand had transformed into a grey wolf's hand, his power had risen by a lot.

He was still scared, but seeing the other person scared of him had helped quite a bit, he remembered all his training before coming here, and held the man's fist, then scratched his face in the next second, he had acted quickly, with the added speed of the grey wolf, the man didn't have a chance to dodge, and so, his cheeks burned with pain, as he felt a red liquid start dripping from them.

At the same time that Martin was engaged in a fight with the man, Emily was also fighting against the other person Fred had brought with him, as for Zafira, she was fighting with their leader, Fred himself.

Fred had a small D rank dagger with him, he attacked injuring Zafira's right arm in the process, it was obvious that she was no match for him, still, she had no choice, or else, their shack would be destroyed, and they would have to enter the Reader's Challenges again, unfortunately, Zafira didn't have another 10 thousand twisters laying around as Crow did.

(Note/ if you're wondering why Crow does, reread the beginning of chapter 1).

Emily punched the man she was facing, after avoiding his a strick from the short D rank sword he was using, she then kicked him in his feet, making him lose his balance for a second, she took that chance to jump a little in the air and came crashing down on him with a kick to the face.

The man fell to the ground, blood running down from his nose and mouth, with that kick delivered by Emily, he had also dropped his short sword, he tried to quickly pick it up, but Emily already had it in her hands.

She threatened him with it, pointing it to his neck, the man's body started to shiver, and he stopped moving, fearful for his life, after all, there was a rule that allowed killing in this test, so who knows what would happen to him if he tried any funny moves.

Still, Emily wasn't the type to kill, so instead, she hit him to the head with the short sword, the man tried to evade, but he was slower than the green-haired girl, and so, after hitting him a couple more times, to make sure he wouldn't wake up for a while, she turned to look at the others that were still fighting.

At the same time that Emily was fighting the man, and before she had finished dealing with him, Martin was fighting against the other D ranker that had come with Fred.

He had just scratched his cheek, making him drip blood everywhere, obviously, the man wasn't happy with that, but still, he wasn't that angry, instead, that only served to make him more afraid of this grey wolf eyeing him.

Martin had gained a bit of savageness after merging a bit with the grey wolf due to the Cardholder, this was a normal thing, everyone who used the Cardholder system to fight would gain some characteristics of the monster or animal he was using.

Martin didn't stop, the adrenaline was rushing to his head, and he felt courage surge in his heart, he was seeing a man afraid of him for the first time in his life, after being referred to as a coward, he had come to accept that, that was what he would always be.

But now, there was a man, in front of him, who looked very scared by the thought of facing him, due to that, and the bit of savageness he had gained from using the grey wolf as the monster for his transformation.

With that, he attacked at full strength, using the sharp claws he acquired from the transformation, the man tried to avoid it but was too slow compared to Martin, and so, he ended up injured in his left arm, and blood started to fall from that as well, the man was so scared, that he bend the knee and said, "I am sorry, please stop! I didn't want to do this, please stop!".

At this point, Emily had just finished her fight by winning, she looked at Martin, and was quite impressed by the strong aura he was releasing at the moment, she then glanced toward Zafira, who was in a bad position compared to her and the orange-haired guy.

Zafira's white dress was stained with red, the red was her blood, there existed cuts all over her body, whenever she defended against a strike from Fred's small dagger, she would be cut by two others.

Emily ran at full speed toward her, and kicked at Fred, who was able to evade it by a slight millimeter, he backed up a bit, and clicked his tongue, as he saw that the person that was fighting Emily was unconscious.

He glanced toward where the second person was, only to find him unconscious as well, atop him stood a person, this guy had orange hair, sight glasses, and hands and feet that were covered with grey fur.

He looked scary, to say the least, Fred felt that he was quite strong, still, Fred unleashed a terrifying aura in the next second, it seemed like he hadn't been using his full strength, as his aura seemed to be close to Saul's aura, still weaker, but not by much.

He looked at the three and smiled, "You're way better than I expected, I have to say that at the very least, but let's see if you're my match or not!".
