Chapter 78: Chapter 78: Kusarigama: Easy fight

Ren suddenly appeared high in the sky as he lowered himself and his feet touched the ground.

His eyes slowly took in the surroundings meanwhile his observation scanned everything so that he was fully ready for any attack.

*Hmm*

He raised his eyebrows when he saw Ace already nearby Whitebeard.

'I guess the system transported us nearby him then… was it also important to save him then?' At first, he guessed they had to search for Ace to save him.

Not because he didn't like him or anything, but the mission didn't mention saving Ace so he thought a bit deeper into the possible reasons of why the mission was important.

'There still plenty I need to know,' He had the thought that maybe if this gate managed to overload and discharge monsters into the city, the damage would be huge.

And due to it, maybe someone important to the system that can help Ren fix the world later was going to die.

Well, it seemed that Ace can also fit that shoe.

Ren observed the both of them.

This would be the first time he saw them face to face.

Ace was as he expected.

Wearing exactly the same thing he wore in the anime.

It brought him a chuckle as he saw him.

Meanwhile, Ren moved to the old man.

Whitebeard didn't wear anything above since he was just chilling in his house earlier. He was only wearing some baggy pants and high boots with a sash around his waist.

His bulging muscles made him look like the Hulk version of the one-piece world and his height and stature appeared threatening to Ren.

The scars scattered throughout his body did nothing to lessen that image.

Seeing him in person after all those years of admiring the character he saw in the anime… the same old man who died trying to save his son, and then declaring to the whole world that the one-piece existed.

His famous bisento and dear weapon partner was tightly held in his hands.

 

It made Ren excited to be standing near such a guy.

He almost couldn't control himself from asking him to take a selfie with him.

Still, he reigned his emotion, and… entered the private chat between him and Robin.

{-Ren: Uhm… can you do something for me?

-Robin: Sure! What is it?

-Ren: I, uh, can you take some good and cool shots of me against the old man?

-Robin: …

-Robin: Haha, I didn't know that you also had such a side, Ren, hehe

-Ren: Well, if you do that, then I can also do 'Something for you' later hehe

Robin: oh? Count me in, *Wink*}

She could use the streaming function to capture pictures that seemed cool.

Ren then focused back on what was going on.

Ren had a small smile as he saw Ace being excited and relaxed when he saw his old man.

He had just been about to suffer a heavy blow when he was saved, so it showed how much trust he had in the old man.

As for the scorpion monster that had attacked Ace, it had buried into the ground once again as if it was fleeing.

Still, it couldn't really escape both Whitebeard and Ren's 'Eyes'.

Ren just moved his body, not waiting for Whitebeard to act himself since he was chatting with his son for now…

Ace though didn't detect the monster, he just trusted that his father would kill it easily and that with him here there was no reason to be scared or anything.

He moved closer to whitebeard.

"Pops, how did you appear all of a sudden like that? Did you get stronger and get a new ability or something?" Ace looked at his father like a small child being excited when they were given some candy.

*Gurararara*

Whitebeard laughed out loud as he heard that.

His giant hand moved and patted Ace's head.

"It's not my ability, I'm just lucky to be among a group of people who can do this…"

He told his son.

Well, it was true to some extent. He didn't outright say that he was a part of the heroic system chat as he didn't know if they were allowed to talk about it just yet.

As he talked with his son, his observation picked on the monster that noticed his presence and was escaping.

But he also noticed Ren going after it. He grinned.

'This leader is quite excited I see,'

But then he turned back to the point.

The same message that Ren saw about the gate becoming SS rank was seen by him.

And the mission updated that the gate was going to become SSS rank soon too.

Whitebeard had to get Ace out of here.

"Who are these people? Are they as strong as you?"

So, when Ace was asking him who this group of people were and other stuff, whitebeard had a grimace on his face.

"Ace… What I'm about to say is important, so listen up well, there is no time to be discussing about that useless stuff"

Whitebeard said, which silenced Ace.

"You have to retreat! This is my order as your agency leader, Ace,"

He delivered the harsh words to his son.

Ace stumbled for a second.

He didn't expect that at all.

"What are you talking about, pops? How can I leave you-"

*Bam*

"Idiot, don't you understand? When did I ever do or say something on a whim? Think before you speak" Whitebeard slammed his weapon on the ground shutting Ace up.

Ace then started to think.

Something was definitely wrong.

'And if even pops is telling me to escape… is this gate more dangerous than what was actually known? An SS rank did appear now that I think about it…' That wasn't supposed to happen, and only the boss was supposed to be S ranked.

This gate should be something dangerous, and his old man wouldn't be able to give his all if he was scared for him.

'So… most likely this gate is higher than SS rank…'

"So, you understand now," Whitebeard opened his closed eyes and gazed at his son.

Ace nodded.

He had to make sure he escaped before he goes deeper inside this gate and deals with it.

And time wasn't on his side to explain more gently and slowly to Ace.

"This gate is soon going to be… SSS rank!"

Meanwhile, as the old man was still speaking with Ace, Ren had already followed the monster more than a mile away.

He as following it by using a combination of his floating ability and his wind.

This made the speed of his flight skill increase for now until he levels it up.

'This type of monster is troublesome,'

The monster was burrowing through the ground completely hidden, and no vibration sounded or was felt. It was very adept at doing so, and Ren had to reconsider its threat level since if he didn't have observation haki he wasn't sure he could dodge an ambush of such a monster.

'And, if it landed even one hit, the person would be done for…'

As these scorpions had a very potent and strong poison they can inject via their pincers.

'Still, it's not like I can do nothing to it…'

The monster was traveling fast on the ground, even faster than it would above it, but as it reached a certain point suddenly a sickle came from above that had its blade extended with green wind energy. This sickle punctured through the ground as if it was butter, injured a few legs, and then continued on to wrap around them tightly.

*Gugh*

The reason it was able to injure the scorpion through its durable armored shell was due to ren using his wind energy to add sharpness.

This weapon was a Kusarigama, which was a sickle weapon with a chain attached. Except this one had a sickle on each end instead of the usual type.

The weapon belonged to Ren, who had managed to acquire its techniques the moment he held it. He always liked to use different weapons and was always testing them firsthand inside of gates.

*Fuah*

*Heup*

"Up you go, big boy"

Ren had sent one end down and then he pulled with some effort and strength before the monster was sent out from the ground.

The monster was thrown to the sky where it could do nothing to escape or dodge anything Ren throws at it.

Ren then retrieved his weapon back, and then grabbing each sickle in one hand he grinned at the monster that was freefalling from the sky.

"Bye, bye"

He started waving and spinning the sickles at a very fast speed.

His energy left his body before it surrounded the blades and chain with a green energy-like cloud before the blades extended in size once again.

Haki spread around before the blades and chain gained a black taint. And his hands were also coated in haki next.

Then wind blades started to form and were sent at a massive speed and landed on the scorpion that was not able to dodge.

Its armor was durable but against Ren who was similarly ranked as it, and in fact even stronger in magic, soon wounds started appearing on its form.

*Tiingh*

Ren didn't slow down, however, and even sent the sickle to attack.

One swing and one leg was cut off.

*Grauhhh*

An annoying sound was emitted by the scorpion who was about to reach the ground. It tried to send its stinger for an attack too.

And Ren continued attacking it before he sent the second sickle to wrap around the monster preventing it from moving.

He kept hold of the middle bar on the chain in between the two sickles.

*Swish*

He then kicked at the ground, using both flight and wind to fly faster and support himself and the weight of the monster.

The force with which he kicked the ground had him grab hold of the monster and prevent it from hitting the ground as it slightly turned back in direction while tied to the chain.

Ren then exerted more strength to continue turning the monster's position until it was above his head before he continued to swing and did a shoulder throw.

*Heup*

The monster was thrown violently onto the ground from very high up in the air.

And the mere thrown managed to injure the monster due to the shockwave that was generated as it was launched.

A huge explosion then sounded as the monster made contact with the ground.

It was buried in a crater and it appeared that it was missing some limbs while others were broken.

But it was still alive.

As expected of an SS rank.

Ren just floated there as he retrieved the Kusarigama before he grabbed a good old lovely spear.

He started to gather his wind energy as his hands were still coated in haki.

He then accelerated from his flying position and when he was only 10 m away, he threw the spear with everything he had, as the spear was sent spinning towards the head of the scorpion.

*Tchuuk*

*Fuah*

The results were as expected. The spear went through the head of the monster, and right then, it was finally dead completely.

"That's one SS rank down,"
