The Fish And The Spear

The birds sing at a modest distance while the paddle of a simple wooden boat dips and rows against the water. In the boat Kara roars, a blonde, apparently, 26 years old woman, while Sune, an 11 years old ginger boy sits across from her, holding a simple wooden spear that looks way too big to belong to him. Kara stops the boat, she pulls the paddle back inside. Sune reaches the spear out to Kara, but she refuses it.

》"It is time you learn how to fish for yourself."

Sune hesitates for a second but then nods. He gets on his knees, one hand on the edge side of the boat and the other tight around the spear. He stares down at the lake, looking at Kara as if he were looking for counselling, although she doesn't reply. Sune looks back down into the water and waits. Once he sees his prey he darts the spear into the water, splashing it and failing his task of catching the fish. He pulls the spear out of the water and looks at Kara. She kneels on one knee onto the boat by Sune. She holds his hand, shifting it a bit.

》"Hold it firm and be patient. Study your target, learn its moves, and wait to strike at the right moment. Again."

Sune turns back to the water. He gently lifts the spear, holding it as his mom taught. He waits… and splash. Sune stabs the water once again, but not just that, he also stabs the fish.

>"I got it!"

Sune starts to pull the spear out of the water, Kara helps him out, it's a big and heavy fish. Sune smiles at his first-ever catch and puts it down on the boat.

>"How was it?"

》"Better. Let's head home now."

Kara takes the paddle once more and starts paddling again, down the lake and deeper into the green pine woods. Soon the rowing would come to a stop. Kara jumps out of the boat, sinking her feet into the water and dragging the boat into the land, beaching it. Sune jumps out, he seems excited to eat his first catch. Kara reaches inside the boat for the spear and fish before heading towards a pine wood-made hut. The space is a beautiful clearing, surrounded by the same pine trees the house is made of. Behind it, surrounded by a fence, is a tall dark horse, a saddle rests onto the fence. Sune walks into the house first. Kara puts the fish down on a table and pulls a knife from the sheath hanging from her hip. She starts to skin the fish until there is a knock on their door.
