Chapter 10: 10

Xie Sui smelled a certain scent emanating from her body like milk body wash combined with a faint floral scent, which reminded him of a milk candy he used to eat when he was a boy.

He inhaled through his nose.

Ji Bai noticed his breathing getting heavier, so she touched her collar, then opened the window to let in some air. 

“Close the window.” Xie Sui said, “I’m cold.”

Ji Bai was reluctant and whispered, “Drive for at least a minute.”

Xie Sui gave her a sideways glance and laughed, “Afraid that Laozi will think you smell?”

Ji Bai, who was poked in the heart, hung her head while her cheeks turned red and hot.

Xie Sui lifted his right arm, which also tugged Ji Bai’s hand, and he actually leaned in and sniffed her!

Ji Bai panicked and hastily retreated.

She was aware that she had a scent, and was quite self-conscious of it, but that’s how her body is. Her dad took her to the doctor, but they couldn’t figure out why she had this sweet scent all over her.

Not everyone liked this scent such as her junior high school desk mate, a bad boy, who said that she had the scent of a vixen, a kind of scent that could seduce people.

From then on, Ji Bai started to suffer from low self-esteem and was afraid to wear skirts with shoulder straps1 even in the summer.

Xie Sui was still sniffing her, Ji Bai leaned back again and again and said, “You, you stop sniffing me!”

“You fucking smell great!” 

Ji Bai bit her lips, the flesh of her lips turned white, and her voice trembled, “You should open the window to breathe some air.”

Xie Sui watched as she was on the verge of wiping the tears from her eyes, and he suddenly chuckled lightly, “What are you crying about, I didn’t say I didn’t like it.”

“Whose… Whose this for!” Ji Bai only felt that she was really at a loss for words. 

Xie Sui rubbed his nose.

Honestly, he thought he might’ve got a hard-on.

Ji Bai stopped talking while Xie Sui also focused on driving, trying to calm himself as much as possible, otherwise he was really afraid that he would become a beast on this fucking mountain road with no one around.

After a long period, Xie Sui murmured, “Fuck.”

The car stopped at the side of the road.

“What’s wrong?”

“The road ahead is closed.”

Ji Bai looked out the window, and as expected, a high beam illuminated a yellow sign that read “Dangerous mudslide road, please take a detour for incoming vehicles”.

“What then?”

“There is another road, but it’s a continuous uphill curve with no railings which is very dangerous.” Xie Sui stepped on the brakes and asked Ji Bai, “Do you want to go?”

“If you don’t go, will you lose?”

He coldly chuckled, “You think that the money of those young masters is so easy to earn? If you give up, you will admit defeat.”

Before Ji Bai could answer, Xie Sui restarted the engine without hesitation, made a quick turn, and drove onto another road.

Compared to the national highway, this road was much more narrow, with one side being the mountain wall and the other side being a 10,000-foot cliff. No more than a few seconds of walking was a 90-degree steep turn. 

In the silence of the car, Ji Bai could hear her own roaring heartbeat.

“Xie Sui, this road is too dangerous! Let’s go back, ok?”

Her voice trembled, obviously frightened by the side cliff.

Xie Sui twitched his lips and smiled, “If I die, I will also be under you.” 

Ji Bai looked at Xie Sui’s dark eyes and she truly felt the boundless silence of a certain death before it came. 

Ruffian. 

Ji Bai helplessly tilted her head over and looked out the window. There were lights of the city in the distance, the mountains in addition to the sound of the wind whistling, had two people’ chaotic heartbeats.

Half an hour later, the car drove into the Jue2 Deer Mountain, Xie Sui slammed on the brakes, and inertia brought Ji Bai’s body to lean forward.

Xie Sui pulled open the car door and let Ji Bai out of the driver’s side.

“Let’s plant the flag on the opposite side of the cliff and then run back here in one piece without delay.” 

“Oh, yes!”

The two were handcuffed together and could only simultaneously run to the end of the curve in the highway. Ji Bai desperately and quickly rushed to the cliff at the end of the highway, crouching down and planting the small red-colored flag into the mud. 

Xie Sui suddenly grasped her wrist, “The road is slippery, don’t fall down, or this Laozi will be buried with you.”

Ji Bai could feel the roughness of the palm of his hand.

On the other side of the highway there were high beam lights coming towards her, blinding Ji Bai, and in the blink of an eye, their opponents also arrived.

“Get down and plant the flag! Faster!” The rich young master cursed the supermodel, “Goddamnit, haven’t you eaten? Look at how the other people were running, run faster!”

The supermodel coquettishly said, “I’m wearing high heels.”

Ji Bai got back into the car, climbed to the passenger side, and excitedly turned back and shouted, “Go, go, go! Let’s go, we’re winning!”

The corner of Xie Sui’s mouth raised, he originally thought that she was a wooden person who was indifferent to anything, but he didn’t expect that there would also be times when she laughed so happily.

“Light a cigarette for me.” Xie Sui pointed out the cigarette case and lighter on the car deck with his eyes.

Ji Bai didn’t dare to disobey him, reached out and fished out a cigarette from the cigarette case and lit it with a lighter.

Xie Sui asked, “Never lit a cigarette before?”

Ji Bai shook her head. Looking at her clumsy and awkward movements, Xie Sui simply felt that she was really pure and unaware of how to do anything.

He took the cigarette she handed him, took a whiff and blew out smoke in one breath.

Nicotine stimulated his neurons, which made him feel relaxed and comfortable throughout his body, whereas Ji Bai was aggravated by the smell of smoke and coughed.

Xie Sui looked at her out of the corner of his eye and opened the car window, allowing the cool breeze to pour into the carriage and dispel the smoke.

“Can’t stand it?”

“Mmm.”

Xie Sui threw the cigarette that he had just smoked out of the window, and said nothing more.

The supercar steadily arrived at the finish line, and his brothers surrounded him and excitedly said, “Brother Sui, it’s great! You won again!”

“Little classmate, how was your first time riding in Brother Sui’s car, were you afraid?”

Ji Bai’s cheeks flushed as she nodded honestly, “A little.”

With his hand, Xie Sui patted the back of her head and casually said, “Afraid of nothing.”

Ji Bai lurched forward as she was patted, finding his gesture a bit intimate.

Cong Yuzhou said, “Don’t be afraid, Big Brother drove steadily, the probability of an accident is lower than an airplane accident.”

Ji Bai agreed with his statement, although Xie Sui drives like a madman, but his skills are really good. The accident in the previous life, Ji Bai always felt that it was not so simple, it was not like an accident, but more like a man-made accident…

As Ji Bai was in a daze, Xie Sui had already uncuffed himself and went over to talk to a few rich young masters across the street, then fumbled with each others’ phones to transfer money.

Xie Sui did not have a name, the square image of the avatar block was pitch black, just like how his difficult and bumpy road of life was boundless darkness.

Xie Sui transferred her 50,000 practically cutting it in half.

Ji Bai felt that he was so generous.

Several boys bet their money on them and won, so they were in a good mood and getting ready to go to a bar.

“Little classmate, don’t you want to come with us to have some fun?” Jiang Zhongning asked.

Ji Bai looked at the time, it was already past nine o’clock, “I’m going home.”

“It’s only nine o’clock, the night life has just begun. It’s no fun to go home.”

“I’ll be scolded if I go back late.”

Xie Sui looked at her well-behaved appearance and knew that she and he were not the same. For them, a group of youths wandering in the shadows of the city, the night is just the beginning of wild events; but for a tame and docile girl like Ji Bai, the night means danger.

“Brother Sui, let’s send her home.”

“Send, what send.” Xie Sui took out a cigarette and put it in his mouth, staring at the endless road, “It’s not like you can’t get a ride around here.”

Ji Bai, of course, was unwilling to let them send her off. If this flashy supercar sends her to her doorsteps and they are seen by her neighbors and other people,  it would be hard to know what they would say about her.

She walked up to Xie Sui, “You help me take the handcuffs off, and I’ll go home.”

Before, Xie Sui only used the key to open his handcuffed hand and got out of the car, he hasn’t unlocked hers yet.

Xie Sui fished out the key and spun it around on the tip of his long fingers, “I think it suits you quite well.”

As soon as Ji Bai caught the meaning of his words, she immediately sensed something bad and urgently said, “Xie Sui, uncuff me quickly!”

His thin lips parted to form a wicked smile, “So, tomorrow after school in the afternoon , come find me at the lake behind the school, I’ll uncuff you.”

“You uncuff me now!” Ji Bai’s porcelain-white cheeks turned red with anxiety as she urgently said, “I’ll be seen by my classmates…”

With a “whoosh”, Xie Sui took the keychain and turned to leave without hesitation——

“Just say that it’s a gift from Xie Sui.”
