At the top, were the ‘60,000’ from the original payment. Below it, on the left side, were stats belonging to the boy, including his total 129,700 credits. On the right, were Akane’s stats, which he’d only now bothered to see in full. Not only that, none of them were locked from his sight now, likely due to her having made them visible to him.

She brought her hand up, clicking the indebted 60,000 value, and at once it moved down towards her, sitting next to her stats.
“I can take care of this one, okay?” she smiled again. “And this way, I can also help you use the crafting system itself without making any mistakes along the way. After all, it might not be exactly your specialty, big bro. Especially since you’re a bit of a beginner.”
There was another grumble from Suzuka, who stood behind them, just a few meters closer to the counter. He’d told her to be on the lookout for any suspicious people while he and Akane worked, but all that’d earned from her was another grouchy mumble, an ugly frown and a fast head-turn. She was really starting to become impatient with the whole thing…
“Hey, I do know how to craft, y’know?” he went on. “This thing’s just looking a little bit overcomplicated compared to what my ability usually does…”
“Well, that’s… I mean, abilities are generally made to be easy to just pick up and use right off the bat. This was a system made specifically by players, so it obviously can’t be as efficient.”
“Bummer…”
“H-Hey, it’s okay, big bro! I can teach you how to work with it. They’re all mostly the same anyway. Once you know one black market crafter, you pretty much know them all.”
“Well… If you say so…” he said, still giving her one last quizzical look.
Regardless, he didn’t attempt to stop Akane a single time more.
While he did feel a degree of solidarity, seeing how considerate she was being, he was pretty rung out of the money he’d previously had, already. If she didn’t have a vehicle of her own, anyway, she might as well help him power up. If she was going with him and Suzuka, anyway, she had only to gain from it.
With a tap of her thin finger, the payment screen vanished, and a glance at her inventory showed her credits had gone down to 137,100.
All that was left before them now was the floating gauntlet itself, and the surrounding space filled with the square-shaped prompts, so faint he could see through them easily.
“Okay, now we’ve got to select one of these.” Akane went on. “This one, for example.”
She tapped one of the tiny squares at the base of the weapon, promptly opening up another large menu, which he recognized as a rather unorganized merge of both his and his stepsister’s items, placing all of their items together into one place.
“Very practical, right?” Akane gushed a little. “This way, two people can just mix and match any parts or gear without any impediments from both inventories, almost like a marriage contract in one of those games!”
“Riveting.”
He could hear Suzuka growl a little behind them.
“You guys do know we don’t have all day right? I can’t exactly promise you I can keep us all safe if a dozen gangsters or so more suddenly rush in and start shooting arrows at us. You do understand that, don’t you, ‘Master’?”
“Good grief, you’re absolutely insufferable…” he sighed. “But, you’re right. We need to hurry up, Akane. What do we do?”
All the broken parts and pieces of the gauntlet were scattered throughout the screen, and while it took her a while to find the right component for this particular area, it was there waiting for her, no doubt, although it’d wound up broken into several parts due to the shootout two hours prior.
Before connecting the base of the gauntlet’s palm to the wrist, they first needed to bring its two halves back together into a single piece.
“Watch this, big bro.”
She selected the two pieces and they were brought before them, hovering in front of the black glove, and she promptly started to tinker with the things.

“Now, the important part is that you keep the things you want to connect in your sight.”
She brought her open hand over to one of the black pieces, and the translucent prompt respective to it seemed to ripple in place for a moment. It shrank slightly.
“Now, try to do the same with the other one.”
“Alright, then…”
He brought his hand forward to the other piece, taking a hold of it the same way the Akane had. It felt somewhat odd, as though the rippling was spreading through his fingers and onto his hand itself, making it tremble in place.
“Now’s the most important part, big bro.” she explained. “We’ve got to bring the two together, seamlessly. See the broken edges where they connect?”
He took a closer look at the two object’s broken segments. There was an odd glint to those areas, highlighting them against the rest of the fragments. It made it much easier to tell in which manner the component had shattered to begin with, as well as how the two parts went together if they were to push them onto each other, somewhat similar to a tridimensional puzzle of sorts.
“... I think I get it. We basically need to mash these two back together, is that it?”
“Exactly.” she nodded. “Carefully, at just the right angle. If you fail by even a millimeter, you’ll have to start from scratch again, and you’ve only got three tries.”
“Scary… I suppose we’d better make this one count, then. What do we do now?”
“Well…” she leaned forward, trying herself to get a better look of each side and slant of the things and then moving back to face him again. “We move them closer to each other, very carefully…”
She pulled her fingers in, gradually closing her hand into a full fist, arm sitting still, and her piece eventually started to move towards his as the points of her knuckles moved accordingly to point its way.
“Huh. You seem weirdly handy with this.” he said. “Did you use to…?”
“Yeah. I did some repair work on black-gold weapons when I was working for the eastern command. It’s simpler than it works, believe me.”
“Well, I’m more used to doing this on easy mode…” he sighed, earning an impish giggle from her.
“What’s next?”
“I’m going to connect this part to the other one. You have to keep the one on your side still, so the first contact doesn’t push it away.” she continued. “Keep your hand open, with the back facing the part I’m moving, but bring your fingers in just slightly, so it will slide just a tiiiny bit towards my side. That’ll counterbalance the force from my piece and make the connection easier.”
“Got it.”
Following her instructions, he allowed Akane’s part to connect to the other one, which he held as still as possible while shifting its weight ahead just slightly.
The two pieces of black gold connected seamlessly, producing a weak hiss as the connecting area instantly lit up into a bright yellow. The material seemed to turn gummy, almost viscous, in fact, as the gap between the two pieces of metal gradually closed up.
A small progress bar appeared over them in the same translucent texture as the prompts, which had vanished in the meantime.
“The system fuses the two parts together when it detects a successful connection. The basic process is completely automatic if you don’t mind going with default settings. You can always change some details before connecting though, such as the fusion area and even more elaborate arrangements such as circuit layouts, meshes or gear hook-ups. That’s not really necessary for simple repairs like this, though. The gauntlet is already ‘assembled’, so to say, and we’re not going to modify it in any way, so just this is fine for now.”
Right in front of their eyes, the two black shards of metal became one, and the yellow flare had died before long, taking with it the withering hiss. The palm base component was complete.
“Okay, now we’ve got to connect it to the larger gauntlet. Ready, big bro? You move the piece this time.”
She took a hold of one of the gauntlet’s prompts, holding it in place with her fingers just slightly pulled in, as he had done before. Haruto, meanwhile, took hold of the base component and pointed his knuckle towards the weapon in repair, slowly closing his hand into a fist as he watched the piece of metal move forward inch by inch.
“It’s almost there…” muttered Akane. “Be careful, bro…”
“I’m going as slow as I can…” he muttered, squinting his eyes.
Little by little, the black component reached its original location, connecting to the liquid spear with yet another hiss, as another progress bar appeared.
“There it is.” he grinned, pleased with the result.
The first of the repairs had, thus, finished successfully.
“Wasn’t that complicated, was it?” she nodded. “Now for the next one.”
They selected yet another set of broken pieces from the shared inventory, and together, went over the fusion process once again, with no incidents. After that, they picked up a third set, once again connecting the pieces all together until, soon enough, the bottom half of the liquid spear had become almost whole once again.
