Something sensational was happening before our eyes. Our first battle was taking shape before us. My blood was boiling. Excitement was running through my guts. 'This display of power, this ability to bend a complicated situation with sheer force, i want it. '

"'Unbelievable...'" I shouted  without meaning to.

("You're doing that weird smile again...")

"Huh? What do you mean?"

I ran my hand over my face and felt it contort into a strange smile that almost reached my ears. I quickly regained my composure and put on a 'normal' expression.

("You had the same one when you knew you could kill Aldrick." )

She was apparently amused by my reaction. I remembered that moment and could only agree with her.

("Scary...")

She added before tugging on her cheeks to mimic my smile. I patted my sister's forehead in annoyance before turning my attention back to the battle. Things were taking a whole new dimension.

------------------------------------------------------

The Vulkore sensed, probably by instinct, that things were getting dangerous. Its behaviour became more and more aggressive, like a wounded wild animal. And as if to prove my point, it got on all fours, or rather three, like a ferocious animal. It threw himself at the two bloodhounds, head first. Its bruised jaw was wide open. Its great menacing teeth were hungry to tear his enemies apart.  Orion was the first to move. He lunged at the monster at breakneck speed, digging the ground beneath his feet and leaving a trail of dust.  As he came dangerously close, the Vulkore reacted by swinging its deformed arm in the shape of a blade. With a flick of his wrist, Orion changed the position of his sword in an instant. He sliced the Vulkore's arm all the way down to the shoulder. Black blood gushed out again, expelled from his body. The monster let out another cry of pain before swinging his huge head towards Orion, its mouth wide open. The Vulkore tried to swallow the bloodhound. But Orion deftly dodged his enemy's attack, leaning back. He slided under its head before delivering a back kick that lifted the monster off the ground. It was a powerful blow.

"KIAHHHH"

The agonising monster staggered around, bleeding to death. Pieces of his body were scattered around the area. But his ordeal was far from over. Above his head was another enemy, just as dangerous as the one at his feet. Lulled by a whitish glow, Mira floated in the starry sky, her sword aimed at the Vulkore. Her hair was blowing in the wind and gave her an almost enchanting look. She lowered her sword. In an instant several white circles appeared around the monster. The Vulkore panicked and tried to get rid of them with its only arm remaining. But its attacks went right through.

Mira stood in profile, her sword in both hands. A fighting stance that screamed her origins. Her movements were strikingly delicate. And in an almost solemn gesture, she chained sword techniques as if fighting an invisible enemy, before calmly lowering her weapon.

Carried by the night wind, her whisper sounded like a song.

"Myndo: Sharp Reflections."

"SLASH" "SLASH" "SLASH" "SLASH"

It was instantaneous, fast, far too fast for us to grasp a tenth of what was happening. All the remaining limbs and the lower part of the Vulkore's body were sliced into several cubes. The limbs breaked off and fell to the ground. A pool of blood formed beneath the monster's feet. The Vulkore were unable to fall to the ground. Its body was held in the air by several green swords of spiritual energy that pierced its chest. It wasn't dead yet, and probably didn't even have the strength to scream in pain. The end was near.

My eyes fell on Orion. His already large sword took on a whole new dimension. A blade of spiritual energy coated the metal, increasing the size and thickness of his weapon.

"Myndo:  Emerald Blade."

Orion's sword, glowing in the night, came down, slicing through the Vulkore's neck before splitting the ground beneath him. It was an execution, plain and simple.

The battle lasted exactly 1 minute and 33 seconds. Orion and Mira defeated the monster without taking any damage. And without wasting any more time, they moved on to their next victim.  Across the plain, the fighting continued. Some of the bloodhounds seemed to be in trouble, but most of them had a very high level of skills. These were no amateurs, and there was every sign that this battle would be a mere anecdote over a glass of strong liquor. Three Vulkores were already down. The plain reeked of blood, the earth turned over, the grass torn up and the ground blackened. It was a massacre by the book.

Although I watched with excitement, I cursed my weakness for not being able to take part. But on the other hand, it was a hopeless attitude. I was only 11 years old,  'I will grow and my time will come.'

("Wipe your mouth,")

Lyanna said, handing me a handkerchief from her pocket.

"Huh?"

She pointed to my mouth and I realised I had bitten my lower lip. Wordlessly, I took the handkerchief and wiped the blood. The wound was already closed, but the taste of blood on my tongue wasn't good.

"Thank you."

Lyanna replied with a thumbs up before showing me what looked like a ugly wild rat.

"Where did you find that...thing ?"

I noticed that the rat's eyes were completely white, so I assumed it was under Lyanna's control. There was also blood all over its grey fur, but no sign of injury.

("I told you there was something strange, didn't I? I found that something, Rinne.)
