On the great plain near Thoralf's domain, twenty Vulkores wandered like lost souls. They were enormous, about fifteen meters high and seven meters wide. These monsters had the strangest humanoid shape: long and thick arms , a broad trunk, huge legs, and a head with no eyes, no nose, no ears, just a grinning mouth filled with huge white teeth. Their bodies were arched like those of the elderly. And to make matters worse, their skin was strangely white and purple.

"What are they doing exactly ?" I asked, watching their strange movements.

"I have no idea, these monsters are simply stupid. Their detection range is about 200 meters. From here they are unaware of our presence, but as soon as we enter the plain their behavior will change." Orion explained, already wielding his great sword with both hands.

"How do they detect the presence?"

"Jeez, you ask way too many questions, Rinne..... I don't know, they can only detect living things."

Orion pulled two daggers from his bag and handed them to us.

"Take them, just in case. From now on we'll have to be separated for a while. No going in or out. Just watch and learn." he said firmly.

We nodded in response. Orion reached into his bag again. He pulled out a small cage containing a rather conspicuous bird. He handed it to Lyanna.

"If anything happens, send it to me. Do you understand? "

 ("Yes, no problem.")

Orion had learned to communicate with Lyanna. He could do so without me having to interpret. Mira, who had not said anything until then, reacted.

"If you weren't here, I would find this scene cute. Well, time for work, see you later, kids." she said, stretching before breaking into a quick run. A white glow surrounded her body and her figure danced through the trees like a firefly. Several other lights joined her and in the night the bloodhounds began their hunt. Orion joined them and this rainbow of colors pierced the plain.

"Beautiful," I said, unable to hide my joy.

The battle began. As soon as the bloodhounds entered their perimeter, all the Vulkores turned to face them. They threw their heads back and a shrill howl came from their foul mouths as a call to war.

"KIAAAAAHHHHHHHH"

The monsters were in motion at a speed in total contradiction with their bodies. Their huge feet stamped the ground, leaving deep marks and shaking the earth.

Mira was the first to make contact. She spun like the wind, her sword outstretched. With a breathtaking leap, she flew through the air to the level of the first Vulkore in range. The monster threw its arm towards her with great velocity but Mira spun in the air, avoiding the attack. Her shadow appeared on the moon, already high in the sky, for a brief moment.  Swinging her sword quickly, she sent several energy blades slicing through the Vulkore's fingers.  All five of them fell to the ground. A black liquid oozed from the mangled hand, staining the grass. The monster screamed in pain, its huge mouth opening towards the sky.

Mira went further. She landed on the monster's chest and plunged her thin sword into it, ripping its torso from top to bottom. Blood spurted out like a broken vase. However, the Vulkore did not seem to falter. It continued to swing its arms, still unable to touch Mira. She repeatedly escaped using the monster's body as support. She attacked relentlessly, leaving bloody marks on her prey. She leaped to the Vulkore's mouth, which opened, hoping to rip her with its huge teeth. But it was a mistake, Mira sliced the mouth open, widening the monster's smile to the top of its jaw.

"KIAHHHH"

The Vulkore let out another shrill scream.

"The way she moves, the way she positions herself, they do not come from Liafel, but from the watery realm of Elona," I commented, looking at Mira. My heart was pounding. This battle was simply sensational to watch. Excitement ran through my mind.

("But the way she holds her sword is clearly from Liafel. Although I notice techniques from the kingdom of Trivell.")

"To be able to use so many arts from different origins, she's amazing."

We could see before our eyes what we wanted. The level of mastery we wanted to achieve, or rather the level we wanted to surpass.

("Let's watch carefully, Rinne.")

"Yes."

Orion joined her "friend". He dodged the Vulkore's attack in the middle of his race by sliding to his knees before straightening up. His great sword in hand, his legs planted firmly in the ground. His energy exploded instantly, creating a huge crater around him. He swung his sword. His shoulders, his hips, his arms, all began to move with force and power, and then...

"SLASH!!!"

In a single horizontal motion, his huge sword sliced through the leg of the Vulkore. The monster was forced to fall to its knees. Orion lifted his sword and prepared to attack a second time, but he was forced to move backward a good twenty meters. The monster's body suddenly began to change. Its two arms took on the shape of giant blades and came crashing down. The Vulkore lifted the ground, raising the dust. There were deep marks on the ground and it was obvious that a blow would be potentially fatal. Orion moved quickly, dodging blows and blocking with his blade those he couldn't evade. He was thrown several times but didn't seem to be in any real trouble. His strong body was more than useful.

Mira was also forced to keep her distance. She avoided all attacks by turning on her heels like a dance step.  Her agility was sensational, her grey hair floating in the air with every move. But something even stranger was happening. The arm changed shape again, spikes forming all along it, making it almost impossible to get close. Mira moved further and further away and found herself next to Orion.

"Boom!"

Suddenly the atmosphere around them changed completely. All the dust that surrounded them was blown away. Their spiritual energies were raging all around them. Orion, surrounded by a green glow, stood in profile, legs spread. He raised his two-handed sword to the sky like an executioner ready to slaughter his victim. Mira stood in a pose typical of the warriors of the Kingdom of Liefal. She was surrounded by a white glow as intense as Orion's. She held her sword pointing down, ready to tear her enemy from the earth to the heavens.
