" — na, Nana! Nana! Are you alright? Nana!"

I slowly open my eyes but as I try to, my eyelids are trying to fall back down so I open them again by blinking as fast as I can.

"Nana, are you alright?"

When I can finally move my eyes without it trying to fight me, I narrow them because why is it too bright, man? And in my face is a blurry image, like I'm underwater.

"Does it hurt? Do you need help?"

"Who are you?" I croak out.

"It's me, Granny, your neighbour. I saw your in-laws come out of your house and I knew they were up to no good! I told you to tell your husband but you refuse to, now look at what they did, they robbed you blind!"

I sat up, trying to catch my breath that the words 'Granny' said didn't even register to me until a few seconds later. "Wait, what?"

"They robbed you —"

"No, before that, my in-laws? I'm married?"

"Of course, you are! You don't remember? His name is Rudiger… are you okay? Did you hit your head?"

Shit… shit, shit, shit…

And then I remember.

My eyes start clearing up and I feel a sudden chill up my spine. I stand up hurriedly and walk out of the door and find — yep, yep, yep, yep, this is not my home. As a matter of fact, I don't even think I should even be alive right now.

First of all, I should be dead. I got killed by a kidnapper when I tried to save a child and they stabbed me. But my sacrifice wasn't even in vain because in my last dying breath, I saw the kidnappers getting jumped by the civilians so that was that. And second, I do not live in the countryside. I'm a city girl, okay? I take vacations to my mom's hometown but I can only stay a week at a time. It's peaceful but, you know what I mean, right? I did wish to retire there but that was way too far from my plans… that ended for naught because I died. And most importantly, in-laws? I never had plans of getting married! Nor did I date anybody that seriously from before to even think of marriage and I got in-laws who hate me?

"Nana, why did you stand up? You might be hurt!" Granny tells me and when I look at her, well, yes, she's a Granny. White hair, and all that jazz. "Seriously, do you need to go to a doctor? You're pale."

"No." I answer numbly. "I'm fine. I just… I'm sorry. But where are we and what year it is? I can see where in the countryside but like, what's the name of the country where this side is residing?"

I need to know information about this place. Did I get reincarnated to the same country? And what year is it? What if it's 2080 and everyone I know is dead?

Granny looks confused but says, "The country is named Maharlika."

"Maharlika?" I repeat the word. "Maharlika? Like Maharlika Maharlika?"

"Yes."

I blink. That's not the name of a country on Earth. That I know of. I mean, I wouldn't say I know a lot of geography but I don't think I would miss a country named Maharlika.

But I know a world that has it.

If I'm really in there and not on Earth, like I feared, the next question would answer it.

I ask, "Is it currently the seventies?"

"Of course not." Granny answers.

I breathe a sigh of relief. "Oh, thank God."

"It's currently 1969."

"Wait, what?"

"1969." Granny says slowly.

Maharlika. 1969. A husband named Rudiger.

It really is. It really fucking is the book I read before I died. It was a cute, little, cliché slice of life about how a man lost his wife because of his family's abuse and left him a daughter and then he met the female lead and they lived happily ever after. It was short, sweet and showed a great deal of lessons about moving on and loving again and all that good stuff. But apparently, it is not going to be good for me. Because it is 1969. If that's the case, I am the wife that died and I have a child.

As a matter of fact, this is probably the scene where the wife died. When they robbed her and physically abused her before leaving because she tried to fight them.

As if on cue, a child cries and it starts ringing in my ears.

"January!" Granny exclaims.

I hurriedly go inside to check the child, and yep, there she is, on the bed with no mattress. I pick her up and softly hush her.

I'm a wife and a mother. All in one freaking day.

God freaking dammit.

Granny goes to the kitchen and comes out with a baby bottle with milk. "Here, they spare the carton with only half of the milk powder available. Those bastards, they probably stole your stuff because Rudiger's Second sister-in-law gave birth last week and there's no money in their family."

While Granny is spilling information I need, I feed the baby the milk. I am confused and worried and quite frankly, angry, but a child has nothing to do with it so…

"If she gave birth last week, that means Nana gave birth last month." I mutter. I'm going to try to fit the timeline in my head. "Which means Rudiger sent Nana money and she shopped for January's things and that's what they stole." This isn't actually in the book. The description of Rudiger's first wife was vague. All I knew about her is that she was a kind woman, too kind it became her only flaw because it made her stupid.

"Yes… but why are you talking about yourself in third person?"

A beat. "No reason." I clear my throat. "Thank you, Granny. Your house is far from mine but you still came to my rescue."

"I'm sorry I didn't try to stop those bastards for you. But like I told you, you need to tell Rudiger about these things. He would understand you."

And he would. It was in the novel. It said, if Rudiger knew what his family had done to Nana, he would have done everything to save her. But at this time, he was in a very confidential and complicated mission that would leave him injured and he was in a coma for three months. I don't know if that mission has started or if he's already injured and in a coma, so I might as well… not do anything about that. Anyway, Rudiger kept sending money to his family and to Nana, his wife, separately… But Rudiger's family didn't like Nana because they thought Rudiger had a good future and he only married Nana, someone who he accidentally got pregnant because he was drunk. And the fact Nana is an orphan and gave birth to a daughter so that's a double whammy.

I never really had a feeling about this situation in the book because you know, it was an introduction but now I am in it, I only feel pure rage.

"Don't worry, Granny, I would tell Rudiger." I smile in spite. "But even if I don't tell him, I'll fix it myself."

Granny pats my back, probably thinking I was being 'brave' and wouldn't pull through. "I will support you."
