Two horses slowly advance side by side on a hill, illuminated by the summer sun.

On the backs of the horses are two boys and a girl.

The horse is tempted by the summer grass that has grown up to the boys' knees, and every few steps the horse almost veers off the path, but each time it is reined in and looks forward.

Occasionally, the girl would turn her head to the side and speak something to the boys, her hair swaying in the wind as she did so.

Whenever the boys would talk and exchange jokes on horseback, the girl's laughter would burst out.

It was a very peaceful sight.

Almark and Wendy are holding the reins of the two horses, which are walking at a slow and leisurely pace.

Morgen, who has never ridden a horse before, is riding behind Almark.

The three had come for a picnic to a hill a short distance from the winter house.

'But I was surprised Almark could ride a horse."

 Wendy smiles at Almark.

'We were planning on having Ward come with us."

Originally, Wendy and Ward were going to handle the horses together, with Almark and Morgen riding behind each of them.

However, as soon as Ward realized that Almark could ride the horse, he immediately suggested that the three of them go without him.

The sudden suggestion by Ward, who had been watching Wendy's every move and strictly controlling her behavior before the attack, was so unexpected that Wendy rather asked him if it was okay for the three of them to go together.

Ward, with a clear face, replied.

"With Mister Almark and Mister Morgen with you, you will be safer than in any other place in the house," Ward replied."

 This pleased Wendy.

I" have ridden a bit in the past,"

 Almark replied.

The Black Wolf Riders, as the name implies, are a mercenary group of mainly riding horses. There was no lack of horses.

"Almark can handle anything."

Morgen shouted in admiration behind Almark.

"Cool."

 Almark looked back at Morgen.

"No, it''s not."

 Almark shakes his head.

"You're the amazing one."

 That was Almarc's honest truth.

Mogen's character of being able to get along with anyone without hesitation.

His ability to make everyone around him feel at ease just by being there.

He has a quick thinking process that can switch from one thing to another, and can think about everything in a positive way.

And, although he doesn't usually show it, he has the courage to do thing when the time comes.

How many times during this trip did Almark admire Morgen?

"Anyone can learn to ride a horse with practice, but I'll never be like you.

"Huh?"

Mogen twisted his head at Almark's comment.

"I'd like to be like you now if you'd let me replace you,"

Wendy smiles cheerfully at the two of them.

"You both have your own strengths," We just don't know how much you know about one another."

The hill is sparsely covered with trees, and the shade only eases the heat when we pass under them.

"I wish there were more trees,"

 Morgen said.

"Then we wouldn't be able to see anything,"

 Almark chuckled.

Wendy, seemingly expecting this, calls out to Mogen, "

"Look."

Wendy points in the direction of the winter house in the distance.

"Oh!"

Mogen shouts with joy.

"It's so small,"

We've come a long way," Almark said.

 Wendy nodded her head.

I thought we could see them from a little further out, but in the summer, with all the trees and leaves, it's surprisingly hard to see them.

'Oh, I see. That's the 'winter' house, isn't it?"

 Morgen said.

"Right.. We always come here in the winter, so all we see is dry grass."

Wendy looked at the winter house and the surrounding hills with narrowed eyes.

"I've never been here in the summer. I didn't know it was so beautiful."

Armark and Morgen also looked in the direction where Wendy was looking.

"Yes, it's beautiful,"

Morgen's stomach grumbled as he said this

"I get hungry when I see beautiful things,"

Morgen hurriedly excused himself, and the three of them laughed for a while.

"There is a stream over there. We can stop there and let the horses rest and have lunch."

Wendy wiped away a tear that had spilled due to laughing so hard.

"At the end of the creek, there is a place called Maru-hinata."

"Maru-Hinata?"

Wendy answers Mogen's question with a wry smile.

When I was little, I named it Maru-hinata. It's not big place. The stream is surrounded by a forest of trees and evergreens, so it doesn't get a lot of sun, but it's always in the middle of the stream.

"Wow."

"Oh, but ......."

Wendy thought .

"That was in the winter, so ...... it might be different now."

"Oh, maybe so. ......"

Almark nodded, and Morgen waved his hand behind him.

I"'ll be fine as long as I have my lunch, don't worry,"

He said.

"Don't say that, I'll show you something beautiful again."

"Don't say that, I'll show you something beautiful again."

Don't do that, it makes my stomach growl.

She laughs and lets her horse walk slowly.

When they reached the creek, they dismounted.

«It's so cool in the shady part of the creek,"

Morgen said, wiping the sweat off his face.

"The shady area near the water is the best."

The horses are tied up and resting, and the three of them sit down on a stone in the shade.

They put the basket that Sedar, the head cook, had given them in the center of the room, to have lunch.

After enjoying their meal while chatting with each other, the three of them cooled off by dipping their feet in the stream.

"Wendy said something about a maru......."

"Maru-hinata, right?"

 Wendy answered Almark's question.

"Yeah, that's it. Where is it?"

"Just down the road, but I'm not sure about it in summer."

 Wendy twisted her head.

"Well, since we're here, let's go there."

 Wendy nodded at Armark's suggestion.

"Right"

"I am hungry "

Morgen nodded and the three of them stood up.

They walked along the creek for a while.

"It's just down the road. ......"

Wendy's words sounded a little uncertain.

"There ...... is that place."

"Ah."

"Huh?"

The three of them stopped at the same time.

Just as Wendy had said, the sun was shining through the trees in a circle at the end of the creek.

Combined with the darkness of the surrounding shade, only there, surrounded by light, looked like a very mysterious space.

In the center of the circle was a single blooming flower.

It was a vivid blue color that caught their eyes.

“Three of them had seen it before."

"Nutmeg water hyacinth ......"

 Wendy muttered.

"I didn't know it bloomed this far north."

 Morgen shook his head.

In the center of the circle of light, a single blue flower stands straight up and blooms with great dignity.

It seemed as if someone had prepared a gift for the three of them at the end of their painful vacation in Miletus.

"......It's like magic."

  Morgen said.

'Magic is equal for everyone."

That's what Yilmaz used to say in class.

 Wendy nodded in agreement.

The beautiful blue flowers never change, no matter who looks at them.

The power of magic does not change its effect based on status or circumstance.

Almark remembered what Wendy had said before.

"Status means nothing before the power of magic."

(I wonder if I will be able to say that with pride someday.)

Almark thought as he gazed at the blue flowers.

(Before Wendy.)

(Like that blue flower , it is dignified and straight.)

(I am the son of a northern mercenary.)
