Alric, Oz, and Beast, in grey cloaks, walk to the girl clerk in Merceless.

 

“You’re alive?! I mean-you’re back!”

 

Townsfolk whisper and adventurers look.

 

“The monster actually wasn’t the problem. A nearby village practicing forbidden magic was the cause and we dealt with them.”

 

“But I still need a monster head to mark it complete.” She says.

 

“We can go back and get the chief’s head if you want?”

 

“So…instead of completing a monster quest. You wipe out a villiage.”

 

“Yes.”

 

“And who’s that guy?”

 

“The monster.”

 

“Alright, there’ll need to be an investigation held and if what you say is true, the rewards is in your name. It may take a while.”

 

“What’s the next gold pin quest?” Alric says.

 

The people begin pointing.

 

“You should see the reward amount on the last mission before taking another.”

 

“I’ll just see it when I get it. How far is the next one?”

 

“You’re cute but hard headed.”

 

She pulls out a leather book, taps it, and red pages turn quickly.

 

“In the city of Capzin, 20 children of nobles are missing, bring the abductor to the city dead or alive and rescue the kids…There’s strange rumors linked to similar cases in the past…I’m not sure how far though…the reward money seems more than the last.

Alric buys a map and feel Beast’s gowl rattle up to his hips, he turns and men in Albon armor draw swords, cower back and an older man with grey and silver hair, named Lieutenant, comes between them.

 

“Friendly! Friendly!” The older man says, “I apologize for them, they’re intimidated by your friend.”

 

“Are you men from Albon’s army?”

 

“Yes but I don’t think we can call ourselves soldiers with no city to protect…It may rebuild. Some chose to stay.”

 

“Hopefully…I served as a soldier too.”

 

“You are famous you know, which leads me to my proposition.”

 

“A proposition?”

 

“We notice you’ve completed a suicide mission, and plan to take another. These 75 soldiers have no leader and chose to follow me, I cannot pay nor feed them or their families. With shares from your next mission, they are yours.”

 

Zeales appears,

 

“Agreed. Have them ready to depart in the morning and say their goodbyes to their loved ones.”

 

“Thank you for accepting…and you are?”

 

Zeales smiles, and shakes his hand, “Second in command.”

 

Lieutenant goes and the men roar and cheer.

 

“How’d you know I was going to refuse?”

 

“You contemplate on the negatives too long…and I’m connected to your subconscious.” Zeales says.

 

Alric pulls his amulet out and stares at the large green gem with symbols around it.
