Antiquity is the 3rd time period you encounter in the game after the events in the future time-line. In this period, the western church and it's 4 characters are the heart and core of the Wings of Lost Paradise storyline. This means it's absolutely essential that these 4 characters all come up earlier in the story before this storyline is introduced. It is only a question of which order they are introduced in, and if any of them are actually going to travel with the party in this period.
It should be noted. Unlike previous polls, this is a poll to select who should be featured first. Eventually, all 4 of them will be included in the story. It's just that it's bad story-writing to inundate the reader with new characters all at once. (As such, there will be no "if not selected" line in this one.)
(Players of the game know the antiquity time-period is hit after the first turning-point event in the game. I will tell players of the game for reference sake, I do not plan to do the same thing the game did with Riica. You know why, because you also know exactly why the game did what it did and why the same logic does not apply to a novelized version.)
(For non-players, Riica is not one of the 4 church members, but mentioning this to players is important because it can influence their decision.)
Parai
Parai, also known as "the fiery friaer." Parai is a particularly hot-blooded priest who is built like a brick-house and preaches with enough enthusiasm that people actually feel the air-temperature rising.
Parai, while being a little overbearing in his personality, is incredibly good-natured and is legitimately concerned for the wellbeing of everyone around him. However, his good-natured personality also makes him a little naive, almost by choice as he is of a personality where he feels a need to actively disregard his distrust of others as he feels such distrust is a failure to offer that person his best.
He is also the lowest ranked in the church hierarchy of the 4, and is a direct subordinate of Thillelille.
Melina
Melina is a child, approximately 12-13 years of age, who came to the church a mere few years ago (2 or 3, forgot the time-line), having mysteriously appeared at the foot of the statue of the sword-wielding savior lacking all memory of her past up until that point. Due to the mysterious nature of her appearance, and the astounding amount of mana she possesses, she was called "the child with wings" by the church, professing her to be a reincarnation of the winged savior, the entity who supported the sword-wielding savior, and held up as a figurehead of sorts, and granted a high position despite her very young age.
Melina does her best to live up to the burden of the hopes thrust upon her tiny shoulders, causing her to come across as incredibly mature for her age. She has learned to competently lead and command the missionary battle-priests in fighting off monsters and protecting townsfolk as they spread the word of their religion across the land, and as she does so she also lives up to the best ideals of the church in always thinking of the benefit of the people first and foremost.
(My memories of the Wings of Lost Paradice story are fuzzy. I have a feeling her exact age was narrowed down in the final chapters of that story, but I can't remember.)
You are reading story Another Eden: Unofficial novelized version (planning) at novel35.com
(Also, I am not certain "winged savior" is the correct title for the entity that helped the sword-wielding savior, but no matter what source I looked at in or out of the game I was unable to get confirmation. (I know I could probably find it in a scene-replay from Wings of Lost Paradise, but that would take too darn long.)
Rosetta
Rosetta is the single most feared inquisitor of the church. Once she has accused someone of blasphemy, there is no escape. However, her tactics are not brutal. In fact, she has one of the strictest standards of any church inquisitor to have ever existed. Before her, you are not guilty unless she can get you to admit your own guilt of blasphemy.
Despite this ridiculous standard, she has a 100% success rate in blasphemy convictions, and this is achieved purely through the means of her arguing scripture and logic with the accused blasphemer. There is simply no-one who knows the scriptures better than her, and no-one who can argue them better than she can.
Her largest weakness, perhaps, is that she is a little too obsessed with Melina. In fact, she is a straight-up stalker. As in, she does not in any way think Melina is guilty of any kind of blasphemy. She is obsessed with her in a very serious stalker sense of the word.
(for non-players, or for players who have simply not encountered Rosetta, it's worth mentioning her opinion about the MC, Aldo, as some people might have reservations on how having a church inquisitor in the party would influence party dynamics. First off, she only directs her inquisitions at members within the religion. She does not direct her attention toward the non-religious. Second, she actually thinks Aldo has a promising future as an inquisitor himself due to the way he always notices things that don't quite make sense and immediately asks questions without hesitation.)
Thillelille
Thillelille is exactly 1 year older than Melina and, before Melina's mysterious appearance before the winged savior's statue, she was hailed in the church as a child prodigy. She was absolutely brilliant in every area of scripture and combat, and even had excellent control of her mana. However, all that attention got stolen away when Melina showed up.
Suddenly, after Melina started getting all this attention, Thillelille began professing herself to be a reincarnation of the sword-wielding savior, an actual mesiah figure in their religion who is a step above the winged savior. Despite this being a clearly outrageous blasphemy, most members of the church including the inquisitors have decided to overlook this behavior as they neither humor her nor reprimand her.
Despite this troublesome behavior, Thillelille is still quite skilled, and has managed to get a rather high position in the church.
Parai is also counted among her direct subordinates.
