Knox awoke in the darkness, laying in the middle of the floor with a pounding headache and a dry mouth. The pain was unbearable and made Knox's heart ache. Trying to stand he stumbled his legs feeling weak and shaky.

“Was it all a dream?” Knox asked himself.

He fell to the ground clutching his head. As he lay there he remembered all of the horrible events that had occurred while he was asleep. He knew deep down, but he didn't want to believe it was true. All the things that happened before, they weren't true.

None of that was real. That wasn't possible. Sitting in the corner of the room was someone else. Their black hair covering half of their face as their body was slumped over, their arms folded across their stomach as they breathed heavy from their exhausted state.

"Who...who are you?" Knox asked softly.

They glanced over their shoulder toward him before looking back at the floor and shaking their head with a wide teethy grin.

"It doesn't matter." They replied.

A chill ran down his spine. What was that supposed to mean? Why did it affect him so much now after having seen it happen? He could hear the echo of their words ringing in his ear.

"Why did you leave me?" They repeated.

"I don't even know who you are!" Knox replied.

They stood up quickly glaring daggers into his eye. A loud laugh erupted from their mouth as they lunged themselves at him. His body stiffened but soon relaxed as they wrapped their arms around him tightly.

"Don't forget your promise to me. If you do not bring the prince to me I will make you regret it."

*******

Knox sat at his desk only smirking. He turned and looked straight back at them and said, "Well, it's because I'm a superhero now." The whole class laughed.

"Yeah right!" Another student spouted.

Landon had just walked in to view Knox catching a punch. He didn't see anything funny. Landon was always the only person who knew what Knox was really like under all that tough exterior. So Landon knew he wasn't joking.

The two boys get into a fight with each other which causes everyone in the classroom to stare. Knox over took his classmate bending his arms behind his back. The boy screamed out in pain . The crowd of students began cheering along as Knox was no match for the unprepared student.

"You think this is funny?!" Knox growled.

He slammed the kids face with the palm of his hand. Landon snatched Knox's arm pulling him off. Knox turned on the boy and glared at him before letting loose some punches and kicks.

“What the fuck is wrong with you, Knox?!” Landon shouted.

“Leave me alone!”

The crowd of people started booing and calling him names while Landon tried holding him back. Eventually, Knox pushed Landon away knocking the smaller boy down. He went over and punched the wall hard. His knuckles were bleeding by the time he was done.

"Knox, calm down! You're gonna hurt yourself. Please stop!" Landon begged.

Knox's breathing heavily. "We are done here..."

He said walking out of the classroom. "Where are you going?! Are you okay!?" Landon followed behind.

Landon grabbed his shoulder trying to turn him around but was unsuccessful. Knox kept on walking down the hall with his hands firmly gripping onto his shoulders. Landon stopped dead in his tracks seeing Knox storm down the hallway until he was outside the school building.

Pointing toward the door for Landon to run after Knox.

“Hey! Landon, not you too!” He yelled.

He caught up to him halfway down the street. His pace slowed when he saw Knox lean against one of the buildings with his forehead resting on his fist.

Knox heard Landon coming close but still didn't raise his head. After he was sure that he wouldn't be mistaken he spoke. "What exactly do you think you're doing?"

Landon took a step closer to him then said, “You've been acting weird lately…I thought we were friends? And we've always fought together!”

Knox lifted his head looking straight into the eyes. "I guess that makes us enemies, huh?"

He stared straight back at the boy. Landon frowned at him then responded.

"What is wrong with you?” Landon asked.

He reached forward slowly reaching a hand out trying to put it on Knox's shoulder but instead ended up grabbing his neck. With all of his might he pressed his thumbs into Knox's throat pushing him against the brick wall of the building.

Landon leaned in and whispered, “Now tell me who you are."

Knox remained still unable to breathe as he struggled to speak. "Landon..." He choked.

Landon let go of Knox pushing him towards the edge of the sidewalk before running back down the road leaving Knox on the ground coughing and choking for air. When he finally caught his breath he looked down to see the blood seeping through his fingers. It stung like hell.

He was definitely bruised but not enough to die. He got to his feet leaning against the side of the building for support. Then he began to walk home.

"We're not friends anymore! Got it!" Knox shouted.

Something black and evil seeped from Knox's aura making him look almost demonic. Landon watched the taller boy walk away shaking his head. "I will save you, Knox." He called back as he continued walking home in silence.

*******

Knox collapsed on his bed throwing his pillow across the room. He pulled a pillowcase around his head shutting his eyes tightly.

'Did it have to end like this?' He questioned in his mind. 'What the heck did I expect? I don't deserve this.'

The dark shadows clamoured over his body crawling up his arms and covering his neck and chest. Knox couldn't control it any longer. He screamed desperately clawing at his skin trying to escape. His cries echoed throughout the walls of the room causing the shadows to retreat for a moment then resume crawling along the floor.

“We will own your whole being, Knox…” They hissed.

Knox woke up covered in sweat as if he had spent hours screaming. He threw the covers off of him and jumped out of bed. He ran to the bathroom and splashed cold water on his face. He looked at himself in the mirror.

“What is wrong with me…”

His normally pale skin was flushed and his eyes seemed sunken. It felt like his body had become an actual demon, possessed by dark shadows. There was nothing human about those blackened features staring back at him.

But he couldn't deny the fact that he enjoyed his newfound power. He was becoming more powerful than ever before.

Knox couldn't help but smile at his reflection showing off his sharp shark like teeth.

"It's not a problem. I'll overcome it." He assured.

Knox left the bathroom heading for his closet. Taking off his pajama shirt he pulled on a gray t shirt that fit him nicely. He brushed his fingers through his short brown locks trying to keep them presentable for the morning. Once he deemed them passable, he left his bedroom and headed downstairs.

"Good morning." Knox greeted his sister as he stepped into the kitchen and took a seat in front of her.

"But it's night?" She replied.

"The moon is the might night sun after all right?" He smirked.

“I mean if you see it that way…”

*******

Landon stood in the living room studying the book he got from the haunted house. He found lists on possessions. He started to read the book out loud to himself.

"1:Cannot Control Themselves; A person who is under the control of a demon cannot control themselves. The evil spirit is able to speak through their lips or can make them mute as it so desires. Scripture gives examples of demon-possessed people who were mute.”

Ambrose came into the room staring at Landon. Landon raised his head turning the page of the book. Ambrose smiled brightly placing his hands behind his back.

"Hey there Ambrose. Did you have fun at the park?" He asked.

She only nodded in response. Landon chuckled as Ambrose's bright green eyes glowed. "That's good! Now why don't you show me what you got?"

Ambrose held up a small box. Landon took it from him and opened it. Inside was a small silver ring with a single red gemstone embedded in the middle.

Dearil came short of breath smiling at Landon who was bent down talking to Ambrose.

"There was ironically a cursed jewelry salesman there." She explained.

Landon placed the ring onto one of his finger then placed his hand on Ambrose's cheek. Ambrose's cheeks were still glowing as he closed his eyes waiting for the man.

But suddenly he began screaming. "Oh my God!" Landon exclaimed dropping the ring. "My hand!" He exclaimed jumping up from the floor.

“Landon!” Ambrose and Dearil screamed.

Landon held his burning hand in pain. He was completely blind. Inside his mind he saw nothing, but a pair eyes staring back at him , the same yellowish color. The eye sockets were empty and hollow revealing nothing.

They reminded him of a pair of yellow orbs floating above him in darkness. He could hear the voice, whispering in his ears. Landon stumbled backwards tripping over the coffee table. He fell to the floor landing on his backside.

He felt something digging deep inside of his palm. Something foreign was growing inside of him. It was like his soul was being ripped apart. He screamed trying to move his hand away.

His hand moved upward but the sensation grew stronger as he tried again to pull it free.

Suddenly everything stopped and Landon found himself lying on the ground looking up at the ceiling. In front of his vision stood a glaring demoness in a blue outfit with long black hair falling down its back. The demoness held out her hand and Landon was suddenly thrown into a different room.

The room appeared to be some kind of study, it was dark with no windows and books lining the shelves. An old wooden desk sat facing the wall in front of him. He stood up getting up slowly and walked to the front of the desk. A chair sat in the center of the room with his laptop open resting on it. On top of it was a large stack of paper and a pen sitting next to a folder titled:

‘The Journal of Alisa and Henry’

Landon picked up the folder, flipping through it noticing that there were many photos within it. He  scanned each photo quickly trying to identify whoever the woman standing in front of him was.

“Was this you before?” He questioned.

The demoness didn’t care to answer him.He saw the familiar mop of blonde hair and the large smile as she stood proudly with her brother who wore the same outfit she was wearing. Her arm was wrapped around a young boy who was probably younger then ten years of age.

‘What do they want from me?’ Landon wondered. ‘Why am I important enough to be kept hidden?’ He shook his head thinking of all the possibilities as he put down the folder and grabbed the computer. He sat down in the chair typing in Henry and Alisa’s names.

His finger hovered above the keyboard until he realized what he was trying to do. His thumb paused hovering over the ‘Enter Password’ button.

How could he possibly break into Alisa’s personal account without her knowing? What made it worse was that she knew everything about her own account.

"Landon? Landon?!" Voices shouted.

He was brought back to reality hearing someone call out his name. His gaze snapped up looking back and forth. Ambrose and Dearil were running towards him with worried looks on their faces.

"Are you alright, Landon?” Ambrose asked coming over to him and touching his face gently.

Landon swallowed hard trying to get rid of the lump in his throat. He stared back blankly for a few seconds then nodded slowly. "Yeah," he finally managed to say. "I'm okay."
