Chapter 7: 3.3 Summoned

Murder was a big no no amongst the denizens of the world. But seeing the damage a level 0 Earth spike caused, the chief no longer dared to provoke the girl. Realisation suddenly hit him. 'She must be an old monster acting like a little girl to play prank on people. Fine, I'll act along.'

"Your magic power is much high. Why would you use such a vicious attack on a friend? For now, you will stay detained till we can ascertain that you are no threat."

Owen wanted to blow his head off but the only way he could efficiently start issuing quests is by joining the town NPCs. Ones the NPCs register him in their list, it would become too hard for anyone to find him from the haystack.

"You can't detain me. You are too weak." This time Owen didn't hide his disdain. "But I will comply. I didn't want to kill him. It was just my instinct."

"Thank you. To be honest, we don't have anyone that can actually hold you responsible anyways. But we still need to do some show of force to prevent the public from panicking." Rather than the chief it was an old voice that replied to her from behind the door. The mayor walked in the room where the two was staying. "I'm sentencing you to farm work for the next week outside the city gates. You will be allowed inside incase of an emergency farm requirement."

Although it sounded like a punishment, the mayor was just approving Owen as a part of the town indirectly since he could only punish people under him. Owen smiled at the mayor's word play. The farms outside were the first that would fall in case of a monster invasion. By assigning Owen to the farm he was ensuring that the monster waves could be slowed down while at the same time puting out a facade of punishing the murderer to appease the public's wrath.

'Perfect. Now it shouldn't be an issue if I use the experience scroll. Might as well wait till I get to the farm.'

A blue market appeared in Owen's map showing his newly acquired land. It was fertile enough to not have to work too hard with a small barn and hut. With the farm, Owen also gained the ability to enter the NPC auction house without any restriction.

Owen had to leave the town immediately by the mayor's order. He had to show face to the mayor or the people could isolate him. The more aggressive players had found house had life would be without the society's help in Second Life. Without people helping him, there would be little to no entertainment found in the game.

The farm land was small. It came with a single room house and a barn attached to it. There was nothing growing in the field. The place was recently plowed but a lack of water had made the land a little dry.

He went through the makeshift fence made created with tree branches and suddenly a new interface opened up.

'A well?'. The interface showed which the ideal location for a well was. Only issue was that he wasn't capable of digging and required the help of a mason.

'Guess I have to go back to town.' Owen was about to turn back to turn when he noticed the town mayor walking towards his farm.

"My lady, I forgot to tell you there was no water source at the place. Don't worry, I have requested the town hall to provide masons and labourers to help solve this issue as fast as possible. All they need to do is get the water mage to identify a ideal spot for the well."

"Oh, that won't be necessary. I know where the ground water is flowing through. You can just dig there a little." Owen broke off a branch from the fence and plunged it at the location that his interface marked. "This place should be perfect. You can start when you are ready."

"All right, you guys heard the lady. Get busy. I want the thing done by morning." The mayor gave the order quickly while a new notification popped up in Owen's eyes.

[You triggered nature's blessed. The terrain has adapted to the requirements. The water table has risen by 4m. The location will have a constant supply of water throughout the year.]

As the worker started to dig, the floor suddenly became wet from the water rising up from the bottom of the soil.

"What's going on?" Seeing the sudden sprouting water, the mason was stunned. "It looks like a natural underwater spring. Lady luck is truly shining on my lady today. If the lady has an idea, we could help channel the water through the whole farm. It should make the work a lot easy." The mason wouldn't get paid if they had nothing to do. The mayor also approved the mason's idea.

"Thank you. I would much appreciate your generosity. Let me know if you need something from me in the future." There was nothing wrong with helping eachother out. Channeling water was one of the most difficult part of farming. With that done, cultivation would be a lot smoother.

"Why don't my lady rest a bit while the workers gets stuff done? I could sent someone over to the market and get some seeds for the farm. I wonder what the lady wishes to buy?"

'Medicine should sell better. Unless there are no alchemists. Then it would be pointless.' " Are there any alchemists in town. I can grow anything in this farm."

"There are none at the town right now, my lady. If I may suggest my lady, it would be a great help for the town if you could grow some food crops. There is a potential beast raid warning issued by the capital and we are lacking a little on our food stockpile."

"Alright then. Get me some wheat grains and I'll see what I can do. Farmhand class bonus should be decent. I shouldn't be wasting any resources."

"Of course my lady."

"Also call me OA. I prefer the name over the lady. I'm not one after all."

"Yes, yes. Lady OA."
