Chapter 21: [BLOOD SilVER->>
POV SHIFT: Captain Mi'shka Domino.
I really should have defected to the Corpos when I had a chance! Mi'shka whined to himself, in-between dodging the titanic appendages that were aimed at taking his life and the bullets flying down the hall.
"Hey! Hey!" Mi'shka screamed, ducking beneath a muscular fist that buried itself into the bronze colored bulkhead. Several bullets whizzed by, hitting the monster to no effect as it retrieved its appendage to smash down on the white-haired officer who backpedaled away.
"Stop shooting or you'll hit me!" Mi'shka barked as a round grazed his skin. The soldiers backed away, allowing Mi'shka and the creature some space to continue their dance of death.
He hated fighting these types, Tyrants were heavily armored and balanced in both magic and physical combat. They reinforced their bodies using Mana and their eyes conjured barriers to block attacks that would otherwise be lethal. Coupled with their massive size and muscular frames, Tyrants were a formidable foe. An unbreakable shield to his all-piercing spear. That didn’t mean they weren’t unkillable though, they did have one glaring weakness and that was wherever their eyes weren’t looking.
Mi’shka flung multiple blood blades from his swords, attempting to create an interlocking smokescreen, to allow him to approach, but a barrier sprang up intercepting every blade that neared causing the white-haired man to let out a low whine as the activation requirement for his skill failed to activate.
"AAAH WHY WON'T YOU BLEED! PLEASE!" Mi'shka yelled at the monster as he crossed his blades together and dug his heels in, tanking the massive fists that came crashing down on top of him, cracking his blades.
"I'M ASKING NICELY!" Mi'shka screamed as he bit his tongue, drawing blood and activating his blood control ability to spit a fountain of crimson laced with potent magical energy at the monstrosity.
Sensing the power of the attack, the Tyrant's eyes focused together, erecting a runic barrier that sprang to life to defend itself.
"Gotcha." Mi'shka smirked, activating the blood bomb with a snap of his fingers and diving underneath the creature as it's fists smashed onto the position he'd just been.
The blood exploded, latching onto the walls and forming a barrier around the monster, encasing it in a crimson sphere.
As Mi'shka rolled to his feet he activated blood control, gathering all the nearby blood that coated the bulkhead, and formed it into a spinning spear.
Without wasting a second Mi'shka threw it, intent on puncturing the creature trapped in the cocoon. However before the Blood spear could reach its target, the Tyrant broke free, bursting through the blood barricade and pivoting just in time to extend its armored arm out, redirecting the killing blow.
"Seriously? C'mon!" Mi'shka yelled in exasperation as what was supposed to be the killing shot only served to remove one of the monster's arms.
The Tyrant screamed in fury at the loss of its appendage and turned to face the pale officer directly who smiled and let out a nervous chuckle.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. If only I hadn't had to fight two of these damn things already! Mi'shka moaned inwardly as he clapped his hands and readied another set of blood blades toward the monster barreling toward him.
Suddenly two audible cracks sounded out, back to back, followed by the Tyrant sliding face first onto the deck, dead. Its entire skull and chest cavity completely blown away.
Taking his gaze off of the many squishy eyeballs rolling toward him, Mi’shka looked toward the end of the hall where a familiar Ensign Harper stood proudly brandishing a massive sniper rifle.
"Hey! I had that one on the ropes! I was just about to kick it's ass!" Mi'shka called out, causing an eye roll that was felt even at a distance.
"Let's get to the bridge Captain! Fire control is coming back online and Captain Skirita wants you to form a team to eliminate a nest!" The Ensign yelled back before signaling the nearby Marines to follow her.
"No rest for the weary." Mi'shka muttered, as he kneeled down and absorbed the monster's blood before continuing on. "At least I can level my blood abilities."

"CIWs at forty-percent."
"Fourth corridor overrun, rerouting Marines."

"Sergeant York is falling back from Corridor six."
"Ten rounds left for the Main canon, sir. Permission to fire SHIVAs?"
"Negative Ensign."
Standing on the bridge of the landship, Mi'shka grimaced at the sight of so much chaos. What was supposed to be a leisurely probation turned out to be so much more as the command deck illuminated with color, reflecting the explosions and gunfire rippling off the deck and into the horde of monstrosity's swarming the ship.
"Captain Domino, nice of you to finally join us." Skirita called out, shaking the man from his stupor.
"Any news on Eleanor?”
The gray-haired officer pursed his lips and shook his head, averting his gaze at Mi'shka's question. "We haven't heard anything since the attack started."
There was something the man wasn't telling him, but Mi'shka didn't know if he could handle it right now so he didn't press. He'd find out sooner or later. But for now he'd just hope Eleanor was alive and surviving out there in that hell.
"Harper said you found the nest?"
"Reported to us by an engineer before she went dark. Cargo bay five. Sergeant York is heading back up with surviving Marines and anyone that can hold a gun." Mi'shka frowned at the news. A Nest explained why there were so many monsters whipped up in a frenzy, but now he more questions than answers. What the hell was one doing onboard the ship?
"You realize that they'll die from corruption once we get down there right?" Mi’shka yanked the officer to the side, causing the man to furrow his brow at him. While it was true they were both Captains, Navy outranked Army when it came to affairs upon the landship, so technically Mi'shka was assaulting a superior. “Get me some incendiaries and I’ll go it alone. No point in throwing their lives away.”
Captain Skirita shook himself free from Mi'shka's grasp and spit on the floor. He took a glance over at the chaos outside the viewport before fixing his steely gaze back at Mi'shka.
“Captain Domino, I've got multiple reports of C and B class demonspawn running rampant on my ship, and you’re the only combat ready Awakened we have besides the kid.” Captain Skirita thumbed a hand at the red headed teenager hugging a familiar frantic little girl. “And she’s recovering her mana. I’m not sending you in there alone, Sergeant York understands what I'm asking him to do. So does everyone else that volunteered. They'll march as far as possible to get you the killing shot. Everything rests on this. We don't have enough ammo to fend them off much longer and I'm holding onto the SHIVAs as a last resort. Failure is not an option here, understand? One way or another this infestation will be stopped."
Mi'shka closed his eyes, wishing he could just find a cot and take a nap right now. “Bloody fuck... how did it come to this?”
“Don’t know, but one thing for sure, someone wants us dead.”
“The Traditionalists?”
“A dangerous allegation but I-”
Before Skirita could finish his sentence the entire ship began to shake- violently as an ear grating wail forced everyone on the command deck to their knees.
At first Mi’shka had thought it was another abomination attacking them, but he recognized the sound, the death throes of a monstrosity meeting its end. Suddenly a blinding beam of light broke through the hull of the ship, painting the night sky in a brilliant splendor that blocked out the abominations and explosions. Feeling the strength of the magical energy, Mi'shka reflexively prepared a blood barrier, but his detect harm didn't activate giving him pause to conserve his mana.
When the light faded, the various Demonspawn hovering around the ship seemed to freeze as if in a trance, allowing themselves to be cut down by bullets and explosions from the ship with little resistance. Seeing the state of the horrors, Mi’shka mouth hung agap. He had seen this effect once before and the only thing capable of causing such a wide display of disarray was one thing and one thing only.
The death of a Nest.
Before he could celebrate the fortuitous turn of evens something suddenly broke free from the ship, Illuminated in golden splendor that made it hard for Mi’shka to pinpoint exactly what he was looking at. But even at a distance he could see the familiar outline of a Nest Guardian as it sprouted wings and struggled with the golden entity, dragging the light away.
Seeing the Guardian, Skirita immediately ordered all weapons to fire on it, but before the main cannon on the ship could rotate and let loose, the Guardian burst into flames, letting out a cry of agony before it was sent crashing into the landscape, taking along whatever had made that brilliant glow.
