Chapter 8: Chapter 6 – The Sortie

After we got back into the dorms, Volga was with me in my room. The room is dim lit, because i don't need many light to see and its comfortable to sleep. 

"Commander." 

"Hmm?" 

"I was wondering, when will we get to sortie?" 

Right... Since i already got my own KANSEN, Noir would assign me some task since im still his junior. Lets hope we got assigned immediately tomorrow. 

"I don't know when, but my guess was tomorrow, i already reported your exercise training with Enterprise, Noir took interest on it." 

"Is that so... Then its great!"

"Now im wondering, where do i sleep tonight." 

"What do you mean, Commander?" Volga asked in confusion.

"Well you see... Since you insisted to live here in my room, should i suppose to be sleep somewhere where i wont trouble you?" 

"Hmmm... Here." Volga patted the bed.

"What do you mean?" Greynar raised his eyebrow.

"You should sleep here." 

"But a man and woman-" 

"No excuse~" Volga smiled.

"...sigh fine." Greynar surrendered to Volga with a dejected look. But his heart says otherwise, it was beating so fast, excited that he gets to sleep with his favorite shipgirl on Azur Lane. As excited he is, he will anticipate something throughout that night.

"Lets go take a dinner then." 

"Right~" 

Im having a dinner with Noir right now, Volga is also with me but. 

"Wh-what is this, it's so good!" Volga munched the meat that she took after having a single bait.

"Take it easy Volga, you might cough if you don't eat it slowly." 

She's a hopeless one when it comes to food. 

"Greynar, tomorrow morning i want you to come to my office with your ship." 

"Sure..." 

"Good, because this will be a pain in the ass if we don't take this thing." 

"What is it though??" 

"You could say its a sortie." 

"Ah, i guessed it so..." Greynar nodded.

"That settles it, please be early in the morning." 

"Okay." 

"Speaking of sortie, i heard some news that the Iron Blood has produced about 5-6 KANSEN already." 

"Really? They're really fast in creating these ships." 

"True, its very unsettling that they could produce about 5-6 ships only under 3 days." 

"Well something tells me that they got backed up by something." 

"I agree with you, but we have no evidence of it whatsoever." 

"So, who was the name of the first Iron Blood KANSEN?"

"I think her name was... Bismarck, the Battleship who was a beast back in the world war before the Siren invaded." 

'The current leader of the Iron Blood, will the history repeat again?'

"Bismarck huh..." Greynar muttered.

"Find something interesting about it?"

"...Oh. Nope its just her name is very familiar back in my world." 

"I see.." 

We had a dinner about 30 minutes while exchanging words. 

"Haaah... I feel blessed." Greynar was lying on the bed after the dinner, the dinner was the best one since i haven't eaten anything in the afternoon because i got . 

"Commander, you can't immediately sleep like that, please change your clothes." Volga scolded Greynar.

"But..."

"No but~"

As i thought, i can't win a single argument with Volga, she's undefeatable. 

I changed my uniform to my my casual clothes, it was Volga turn to get in the toilet. As i waited her to finish, i was reminded of something.

'I've been in this world for a while, but if im like one of those "Protagonist", shouldn't i have some a cool ability or something?'

It just clicked on me that i never did some experiment using my body or something, i was so focused into getting my own KANSEN. OOoops... My inner chuuni was starting to leak out. Well, lets at least do something that looks acceptable...

Not working, everything i did was fruitless. There's no any hidden power or anything i have, i guess im just a normal human with a max luckiness. Sounds like that one guy from One Punch Man. I chuckled as i hear the door from toilet opened.

"Great, you are done, i thought i have to wait for 2 hours more." I jokingly said to Volga. 

 "Eh.... Is that so? Did 2 hours has passed?" Volga looked panicked as she is clueless.

"Nah im joking, please don't take it personal." 

Volga pouted as she fall for my trap.

"Lets get on the bed already." 

We both got into the bed took the blanket.

"Goodnight then Commander." 
"Goodnight."

It's been 2 hours and i can't sleep, its feels like im being watched by something  or someone else. I gathered courage to take a peek into Volga direction, it seems she has fast asleep. The face of her sleeping face is also cute. Crap i might not be able to sleep if i think about other things. Well, a dream of being surrounded by your KANSEN might not be far way in the future. 

"..." 

The sun hasn't shine yet, but i could clearly see the night sky turned into dark blue. I looked at the opposite direction, i met with Volga that is still sleeping. 

'I guess i can let you sleep for a while' 

I get off the bed and do my morning routine. 

As i came back from my daily routine. I see Volga still sleeping, i might wake her up. 

"Hey... Wake up, it's morning already."

"...hmm?" Volga woke up as she rubbed her eyes.

"Good morning Volga."

"Morning Commander." 

Volga who is still sleepy yawned.

"Why don't you get ready for now." 

"Right......" 

I waited around 15 minutes for he to get ready. 

"Im back Commander~" 

"Good, Noir has waited for us in the dockyard." 

As we walked into the dockyard, i could see Akashi and Noir in the distance, while also Enterprise who is at her ship right now. Some Sakura Empire girl also in here like Akagi, Nagato and Mikasa. Also Eagle Union KANSEN like Helena, Hamann, Hornet and, Yorktown, also Saratoga. 

"Greynar, you're here early, as expected." Noir walked up to Greynar. 

"What is the sortie mission? It seems like an important one, i see some big shots KANSEN here."

"As you see, the North has been attacked by the Siren. Northern Parliaments was still holding the Siren as to prevent more causality, Avrora and Pamiat still holding the line with some mass produced ship, but it didn't just end like that. The Dragon Empery also got attacked by the Siren, it was a pain for me but we have to split up the forces, some big forces need to go Dragon Empery since i heard a powerful Siren is there." 

'I see.. The Siren attacked us when we're too relaxed'

"So, you want me to go to North?" 

"Yeah, i want you to help Avrora and her team to defend the line." 

"Isn't that too much for someone like me?"

"No, i trust you that you could do it."

"What will the Royal Navy do then?"  

"The Royal Navy will help us defending the base, Elizabeth has started to do some preparing with Belfast."

If the queen has started to make move then we can rest easy, i gathered my determination.

"Okay that's good to hear, Volga can you transform your rigging into a ship?" 

"Yes Commander." 

Volga summoned her rigging and it transform into a big catamaran carrier.

"We're ready to set sail Commander."

"I wish you good luck Greynar." 

Before i stepped into the ship i turned to Noir.

"What are you gonna do next?" 

"The HQ asked me to investigate the Iron Blood, so i might be away from the base for indefinite amount of time."

'That seems like a huge flag, but my guts telling me its not a dangerous thing'

"Good luck to you then..." i waved to Noir.

"Thanks, i also hope you bring the victory in the north." 

It was then, we sail into the North on our first ever Sortie.
