Kindergarten in both worlds was relatively the same, just that this world had dangerous animal people that could kill each other on a flip of a switch. Gustave constantly daydreamed of his battlefield achievements and what he could do with this body. A natural killing machine, but he was just born a century late. He opened his eyes to stop daydreaming as it was not very helpful to get lost in thought.
He focused back into act as a child for the rest of the day. As this was an elementary school involving young animals there were no fights or issues. That was more common in Middle and High School once the students began to mature. For today, Gustave's classmates all got a chance to share what they were, and some facts about themselves.
There was no real lesson for the first day, but it wouldn't be anything that Gustave didn't already know. This was still kindergarten class after all, but their teacher cleared his voice at the end of the day.
"I hope you all had fun getting to know more about your classmates. This is a good icebreaker on your first day of school. Tomorrow you will not stay in my class the whole day. You will meet the rest of your teachers tomorrow so get some rest. Dismissed."
Everyone stood up and grabbed their things. Gustave was already ready to leave as he did not take things he did not have to from his backpack. He got up and began to make his way out. He did not daddle and walked outside where his parent's SUV was parked outside. A teacher led him into the back seat where he put on his seatbelt. Safety first as he rather not die due to a dumb accident.
Once he was seated, the teacher closed the door. Once he was seated his dad drove off toward their home, but they were both curious about how his day went. Too bad his mom was the first to speak up.
"So, make any friends?"
Her face lit up which kind of revealed her fangs. He shrugged.
"No."
He decided to comfort him.
"Don't be discouraged. It's the first day after all. In no time you will make lots of friends."
"I am not. In school, we are partnered up with someone and I am partnered with another hybrid. A Growler bear."
His parents were happy he at least talked with someone. His mom wanted to know more so she pressed on.
"Boy or girl?"
Gustave shrugged.
"Her name is Sarah. There is also a Zebra Hyena named Noah. He looks kind of cool."
Anastacia hoped he could make some friends soon. He really needed it as kids should socialize. She herself had none as she was a hardcore loner in High School. Her only friend and eventual boyfriend was next to her after all.
"Well, it is the first day. Try to befriend Sarah. Hybrids should stick together."
He just shrugged which made his dad give him some dumb advice.
"She is a bear, right? Just give her some honey? All bears love honey."
Anastacia pinched his arm.
"You dumbass. They are kids."
He felt wronged.
"Hey, I was being innocent. I know that and don't distract me from the road."
They started to argue again so Gustave zoned out.
"Whatever?"
Once they arrived home, Gustave went up to his room and got undressed. He was going to take a shower as he preferred to be clean. Once he was in the bathroom he looked at his body which was filling out with natural muscle. Being a carnivore and a meat eater he was stronger than he should be. Plus, he was doing some secret light exercises in his room.
'Nature's a perfect killing machine. Now that I think about it, a world always needs an assassin. How would I go about getting business through.'
A natural killer like Gustave placed in a killing machine would obviously result in such thoughts. His claws extended as he looked at them. They were small at the moment, but once he hit his growth spurt they would become better than knives. He opened his mouth and looked at his fangs which were large and thick. He could bite through a skull with no issue and probibly crush a human's head in his hands once he grew.
He always felt glad he was given this body. It was many times stronger, faster, and just better than his human body. with work, he could surpass his old self, but once he got in the shower those thoughts began to fade.
'Nah, not worth it. I should just retire and do something else. I lived a life of blood and carnage. I had my glory.'
Plus, he had no outlet to release his battle lust that was accumulating. There were no active wars going on right now, what need was there for a mercenary? He sighed as he had the tools, but not the means of using them.
'This sucks.'
He finished his shower rather quickly and shook himself off in the shower. He dried himself off and got dressed before jumping into bed. He pulled out his phone before looking at wars that were ongoing. He found that this was a very peaceful time with not a single war going on. Not even the Middle East, Africa, Mexico, or the Russian borders had any conflict at the moment.
"Damn it, why could I not be born during the Carnivore Herbivore War."
He slumped in bed curing his luck of being born too late. He closed his eyes and decided to take a short nap until dinner.
He woke up 2 hours later when he heard his dad calling for him.
“Gustavo, dinner time. It’s your favorite.”
Gustavo opened his eyes and got out of bed and rushed downstairs. His favorite food was medium rare steak. That was acceptable as it was cooked enough. When he got down to the table his dad was waiting for him. He sat next to his father and waited for his mom to serve thier plates.
While he waited his dad placed his arm around his shoulder.
“Son, you remember what we said earlier?”
“No. Something about honey."
Jason nodded.
"Exactly. Making friends with Sarah should be easy. All bears live honey."
Gustave patted his dad on the shoulder.
"I'm good."
Jason and his mother sighed as she came back with Gustave’s plate. A large medium rare steak from a giraffe. Once again donated by the animal in his will. So no murders. Along with rice, beans, and some fried scorpions on the side.
"Come on, Gustave. Having someone to talk to will make school easier."
As she said this she leaned right into his face and she even made a sad look on her face. Gustave leaned back as he sighed.
"Fine."
His dad shook his head.
“Are you just saying sure so we stop or are you really going to try?”
Gustave just smiled.
“Maybe."
Jason nodded as he gave

“Yeah. In High School, your mom was a hardcore loner. She only had one friend. Me."
His mother smacked him on the back of the head causing him to hold his head.
"Ow!"
She just smiled and explained herself to not give her son a bad perception of her loneliness.
"We Tigers are different from Lions. Especially Siberian Tigers, we like our privacy. Unlike Lions who form big friend groups which I say is too crowded. As you are a Liger we had no clue, but it seems you are more tiger-like then a lion. You even got my markings after all."
His father patted him on the head causing him to close his right eye a little.
"She is right. If you don't want friends don't push yourself too hard."
Gustave shook his head.
"It's not that. I will try."
Hearing that made his parents happy he would try at least. Who knows, it might come back to benefit him later in life. Anastacia returned to the kitchen and came back with two more plates. One for herself and one for Jason, but before they dug they had to say a quick thank you for the giraffe which they were now eating.
No big prayer or anything, just a quick thanks, and then they ate in silence. Gustave cut into his steak and brought the meat up to his mouth and bit down on it. His taste buds flared up as he enjoyed the taste of his mother's cooking and the meat.
'Thanks, you poor bastard.'
Once he finished his meal, he went up to his room to watch TV for an hour, and then he fell asleep. Ready for the upcoming day. The next morning once his alarm went off, he got dressed, ate breakfast, talked with his parents, and was driven to school. Now he was in his first period once again sitting next to Sarah.
As class had not started yet he turned over to the bear girl.
"Hey, Sarah."
She turned over when she heard him.
"What is it?”
“Want to be my friend?"
Gustave noticed how her small ears perked up and a smile almost cover her face before she stopped herself. As a hybrid, she had never been accepted among Brown Bear or Polar Bears so she was lonely. Having a friend this soon and a fellow hybrid was just what she wanted.
"Really? You want to be my friend?"
He nodded.
“My mom said I need friends. You are the first on the list."
Sarah as a kid just agreed.
“Ok. Who is next?”
Gustave glanced over at Noah who was quite in his seat.
“Noah.”
Sarah thought that would be a good idea.
"Alright."
Before they could talk more the teacher started class as the bell had rung.
“Alright, let’s begin. Today’s class will be on who discovered this land."
Gustave did his research with his phone and he found out that this world's history was almost exactly the same as his Earth. With some big changes in the last 150 years though. Even though the Christopher Columbus equivalent was a human. Back when humans were more common so this was all just review for him.
However, for the rest of the class, this was new like everything they were learning. Once the first period ended, they each went to their next-period class The second period for Gustave was math and by chance, Sarah was also in his class. The next class was a mixed class so Gustave and Sarah were with herbivores. Many of them were kind of nervous to have two hybrids in the class. Kids or not which made Sarah a little sad.
This was what she was used to as all the herbivore kids she knew refused to let her play with them. They ran in terror the moment they saw her despite her only being 5 years old. A cub with barely any danger to them or anyone really.
"Don't let it get to you. This is how it is for us."
She took a deep breath and calmed her sadness.
"Thanks."
"Don't mention it"
Just then the teacher, a Red Deer cleared his voice as he looked at Gustave and Sarah who were sitting in the middle of the class.
"Excuse me, you two. Class is starting, save your conversation for later."
Sarah nodded while Gustave just shrugged. Once they were quiet, the deer introduced himself.
"Now, I am Mr. Davis. Your math teacher."
No one asked anything so the deer began his lesson. Like everything, catered to kids so Gustave just did what he had to so he would not be called a slacker. However, it was so boring he wanted to drop out already. This went on for a few more periods, in which Sarah and he stuck together through. A lucky turn of events for Sarah who was happy to be with her new friend.
While Gustave was happy he did not have to talk to someone else every class period. His school life went on to become a routine that was more boring than anything, but he stuck to it for the rest of his elementary school time. In that time he and Sarah had stuck together and even added a few more hybrids and carnivores to their little mixed pack as Gustave gathered them up telling them they needed to stick together.
And today was the last day of Elementary School before they went on to Middle School. Gustave was all for it.
'Time to face the music.'
