Betty removed her blacksmithing glove as Aiden followed. People rushed, turning into a singularity, sparing no glance towards the duo.
'Running indefinitely, never to stop,' Aiden thought, shaking his head. 'A pathetic life. Just live it, is that so hard?'
A second creature crawls about, the morning sun still shining judgment upon them. Groggy adults moan in fusion as if they carried the world on their shoulders. They slowly climb back into their apartments, bound to return that night. Soon, they're surrounded by arguing merchants, all screaming and yelling at everything.
'Truly the most detestable creature,' Aiden thought, rubbing his eyes. 'Why? Just why? Why in the morning of all things?'
"Good morning Betty," one smiling merchant said as they approached his stall. His face got encompassed by the sunlight. "What can I get for you?"
"Good morning Kye," Betty replied, looking at the groceries. "Do you still have that herb? I also need the usual groceries." As Betty said, Kye shuttered.
"Ah! Yes, certainly I do! Is it for this special guest?" Glancing over at Aiden, his eyes hiding no pity. Giving Aiden the herbs, a fresh whiff of mint passed. Kye's eyes hid nothing. Aiden nodded his head.
'Got it. Never eat Betty's food. But mint brownies can't be too bad, right?'
Betty held out one silver coin to pay, but Kye refused. "Alyssa does so much for us. No one can afford to disturb her. Please treat it as a gift, for one of the many gifts she gave the community."
A smokey smell with a musky undertone permeated the air. The scent came from down the street, like a mistress attracting customers.
'I swear, this place reeked of sweat yesterday,' Aiden thought, looking around. The once groggy world seemed peaceful and restful as if lulled into an eternal sleep. 'For a good steak, right now, I would kill.'
"Aiden? Aiden? Are you alright?" Betty looked at the motionless Aiden as her arms carried a few things. "Hehe, I forgot to bring the bags. Can you help me?"
The items started floating as if hands were carrying them. "It's fine." Aiden looked around, trying to find the source. "Is there a steakhouse nearby?"
"So you also use magic," Betty murmured. "There is a steakhouse nearby. I'll have to show you later." Betty leads Aiden with a hop in her step. "Oh! Right, I have an apartment nearby."
"What street do you live on?" Aiden asked, noting the buildings lacked graffiti or any individuality. 'What type of city is this? Do people actually live here? Like human people?'
"I forgot you're new here. Every street name is its purpose. We were just on Merchant's Street and heading to Apartment Street."
Suddenly kids and their mothers were walking about, politely greeting Betty. "So what's passed the river and fence over there?"
"The nobles' mansion are there. They guard most of the incoming Raids," betty said, unlocking the apartment's door. "They send representatives, which also must get treated like nobles." As they walked into Betty's apartment, she started making the brownies. "Honestly, although I'm loud and new, they're... "special" creatures. I hope you will never meet one," she said, pulling her upper lip.
'What type of bug did you see?' Aiden thought, reflecting on the pass. 'My homegirls didn't like bugs either.' "But Alyssa still makes money off them, so they can't be too bad."
She paused, "You're right but still annoying. Master does charge a lot for designing their weapons."

"Oh! Right, servants don't wear your type of clothing. Only real nobles do. Also, we don't charge for the room."
"Really? That's nice. Keep it if you want to." 'A lot more from where that came from, anyway.'
"Thank you, but your perfume is special. Only real high-end nobles can afford it."
Aiden sniffed his armpits, 'Don't I stink? This ungodly smell of ashes and dust is a perfume? I need another shower.'
"Yeah, you're not a noble," Betty said in a daze. "Um, what else... what else... maybe the gang provides most needs? Or that Master sometimes helps with defense? Sometimes they do expositions, but Master doesn't help then."
'So the gang hosts expositions to get something. While Alyssa guards the border.' "Alyssa doesn't like killing or blood, right?"
"Well, she doesn't like OTHERS doing it," Betty said, "but she will do it herself," she said, putting the batter into the oven. "15 minutes."
"Although she gives the weapons?"
"Yeah, it's not like swords can kill those god-forsaken glitches?" Betty said, with a bizarre look on her face. "Where did you live where you don't need both firearms and swords? Right magic. I forgot that."
'God-forsaken? So glitches are humanity's predators, and magic naturally kills the glitches?' "Betty, tomorrow, can you help me get new 'commoner' clothing?"
"Sure, it's close to Death Valley. RIGHT! In Death Valley, murder is legal since the gang hosts it. Stupid idiots doing stupid things."
"Sure sounds stupid," Aiden said as Betty pulled out the brownies. 'It's been 15 minutes?'
Betty nodded her head. "Right, Aiden, although Master is mad, please stay here. She doesn't like seeing others hurt."
"Thanks, but I'm not designing a sword. How should I pay?"
"Master won't care. Let's go." Opening the door, "Oh right, what are you going to do today, if not clothe shopping or going to the stake house later?"
"Sleep, I could do that forever," 'This magic is too draining. Is it the first time this body ever used magic?'
"Hehe, that doesn't sound too bad."
