Chapter 4: Chapter 4

ZERO

I walk out of the back door of the club and the car is already waiting by the street. Boom greets me with a nod as he opens the door for me. I board the car and at that moment, my phone vibrates in my pocket. I pull it out to see that Nic is calling me. 

Earlier, Nic had rushed off when he was supposed to be getting me the first aid kit. Some fuckers from a rival gang came to one of our gambling dens to create a nuisance. Nic went to settle it with Guy. Given that it was an urgent situation, I forgave Nic for allowing a stranger to see me injured. Also, I was certain that Nic trusted that Blue would not run his mouth. And that Blue kid… I know he is terrified of me to not do anything stupid. He even treated my wound earnestly so I would let it all slide. 

I pick up the phone as Boom shuts the door. 

“Boss, it is all settled. We taught them a lesson.” Nic reports to me right away.

“Good job. Go back and rest.” I hung up the phone after hearing Nic reply a, “Thank you.” 

Boom drives the car out of the street at the back of the club and turns out to the main road. I look out the window and raise a brow at the sight of Blue. It seems he is trying to get a cab. I glance at the expensive Rolex on my wrist. At this time, it would be impossible. Then, I remember how he helped me with my wound… 

I would never usually do this but I hate owing anyone a favour. 

“Stop the car before that kid.” I instruct Boom quietly. 

Boom has worked with me long enough and knows me well too. He nods and stops the car. 

“Text Nic and ask him for Blue’s address. Wind the window down.” I say.

While Boom texts Nic, I ask the kid to get in. Of course he refused at first and he even spoke aloud about me silencing him. I was slightly amused at that. This kid… is quite interesting. 

Eventually, he gets in the car. I am also certain that Boom has gotten his address so I stop Blue from even bothering to tell us where he lives. Boom starts the car and I look out the window. I do not usually like to talk, even with people I know. The ride is a silent one. I know Blue keeps glancing at me out of curiosity but I ignore him. 

When Boom stops before a shady, old apartment building, I am a little surprised that he lives here. I know this neighbourhood. It is under the control of one of my biggest rivals, Tak. Tak’s men were the ones who came to disturb my area tonight. 

Blue quickly thanks me, clearly wanting to leave right away. I do not know why I gave him my name but I guess there is no harm in doing so. He is as harmless as a fly to me. Blue alights and I watch as he rushes into the old apartment building. 

Boom waits for my instructions to start driving. I am about to tell him to do so when I notice a small device on the seat beside me. Blue’s phone. I sigh inwardly. This kid is so troublesome…. Since the first day I met him. I picked up the old phone with a broken screen with a little distaste. Blue, how poor is he? No wonder he begged to continue working at Club Monday.

I could have handed the phone to Boom and instructed him to run after the kid but at that moment, the screen lights up and even though it was locked, I could see a preview of his latest message.

BEW: Have you reached home yet? Please let me know ASAP. I am worried about that psycho ex of yours… 

I raise a brow, remembering the guy who confronted Blue behind my club. I had easily taken that idiot down. Hm, it seems his ex is a problem. Well, it is not my business but somehow, I felt uneasy. Someone weak and clueless like Blue, living in such a neighbourhood and with a crazy ex out for him… 

I thought about him bandaging my wound sincerely… Fuck. I did not like the uneasy feeling that grows in my heart. I have never felt this way before in a long time. I had long shut off that part of me that cared for another. Not since that woman fucked me over and over again… 

“Boom, what floor does he live on?” I ask quietly. 

“Third floor, Boss.” Boom answers right away. 

“Wait here.” I ordered as I alighted the car. Boom alights too and waits by the car as I ordered. 

I enter the apartment building. It does not even have a lift so I have to climb the stairs. When I am about to reach the third floor, I hear a loud squeal of pain and I freeze… 

“Fuck you brat!!!” 

I squeal in pain as she grabs my arms and tosses me aside like I am a rag doll. 

“I gave birth to you!! You will listen to me! Or are you going to be like your useless father?! Dead and left us a big bunch of debts! If you do not steal enough money tonight, we will starve!!” 

I scream in pain as she rushes over and kicks me in the stomach. “Now go and get us some money!!” 

I blink. Fuck. I hate it when those memories come back. 

And that squeal… Blue? I find myself rushing up the stairs. True enough, I find Blue pushed up against the wall and that ex of his kissing him forcefully. Fuck! I may do illegal shit but this is wrong, even for me. 

I pull the bastard off Blue easily. He is shocked by my sudden appearance. Before he can do anything, I punch him right in the face and he passes out cold. I stare at his body in disdain. Useless.

I turn my attention to Blue who is now on the ground. Lowering myself to his level, I realize he is trembling in fear. He shrinks back at my gaze and I use my finger to push his chin up so that I can check his injuries.

His lips are bleeding and there is a huge red mark on his cheek which is slightly swollen. 

I stare into his large, watery eyes and something inside me… breaks. 

Then, it looks like his eyes are slowly losing focus. He is going to pass out. 

“Hey…” 

He faints and before his head can hit the floor, I quickly catch him in my arms and pull him close.

Cigarette between my lips, I stare at the tiny kid passed out on the bed. My guest bed. In my house. Dan is sitting on the edge, checking on the guy. I called Dan and he rushed over as usual. 

I didn't know why I brought him back to my place where only my closest men are allowed in. It is a heavily guarded home because I take pride in having my privacy and of course, safety. I could have just gone to the club.

But a tiny part of me did not feel right… So, we ended up here. 

"He is alright. Just a bruised cheek and lip. And he is in shock. The nosebleed could have been from that too." Dan concludes, glancing at me. "I will prescribe some painkillers and antiseptic cream. Other than that, he just needs to sleep it off."

"Hm." I nod as I exhale a puff of smoke. 

Dan keeps his things away and stands up. He looks at me curiously. 

"Just ask what you want to ask." I say quietly. 

"This kid… is he someone special?" Dan smiles at me. 

"No. Just a staff from the club." I answer, putting out my cigarette in the ashtray.

"But I owe him a favour." I add. I guess by tonight, I would have repaid that favour. 

Dan nods slowly. "I heard you got injured tonight. You need me to look at it?" 

I shake my head. "The kid helped." I roll my sleeve up to show the perfectly bandaged wound. 

Dan comes closer to inspect it. "Woah, he has got skills." Dan looks impressed. "Well, alright. If there is nothing else, I am leaving first."

I nod and dismiss him. After Dan leaves, I take one last glance at Blue. I will deal with him after some sleep. 

I am about to leave the room when there is a whimper coming from the bed. I turn and see Blue crying in his sleep, tossing and turning. I frown and walk to the side of the bed. 

"Hey, hey…" I tap him lightly. 

"No! Terry! Get away!" Blue cries in his sleep. 

Fuck, is he having a nightmare?

I grab his arm and his eyes fly open in shock. Then, he jumps up abruptly and hugs me tightly, burying his face in my chest. He is sobbing.

I just stand there, feeling at a loss. But as the kid cries harder, I find myself sighing. I wrap my arms around his body slowly and hug him tightly. That seems to work as his sobs slowly die down to sniffles. 

Looking down, I see that he has fallen back asleep while clinging on to me. I let out a heavy sigh. I try to set him back down slowly on the bed but he whimpers and hugs me tightly. 

"Fuck.." This kid is really troublesome. 

I purse my lips as I have no choice but to carry him up and back to my own bed. The bed in this room is too small for two people. He remains asleep as I continue to hug him and lie down beside him. He even snuggles his face deeper against my chest. 

I feel extremely exhausted suddenly. I have not had anyone cuddle me to sleep before. Not even the women I fucked before. I am used to sleeping alone. 

Tonight I am too tired. I take one last glance at the kid who is now sleeping happily. I shake my head before closing my eyes, allowing sleep to take over me.
