Baron Geon was not the brightest aristocrat out there. He had visited Lady Gizelle’s shop many times in the past and had met Adui as well. But even after his countless visits, he could never remember who Adui was, at first everyone figured that it must an aristocratic thing to show that they don't care about the commoners, but as it turns out, everyone was wrong. After talking to some of his servants, Adui realized that the man was not faking it, he is really very bad at remembering faces.

Knowing the fact that he is bad at remembering faces was a good thing, as there was a chance the deal would not happen if he remembered that he used to work for Gizelle…

“Lord Geon, it is pleasure to make your acquaintance,” Adui said after pushing him up on his feet with a light bow as the Baron and two other men entered the room. The Baron just nodded and took a seat opposite to him, while the two men following him stood behind, seizing Adui up from top to bottom.

“Adui Hampshire. For the love of Tibba, I can't recall any household with the name Hampshire. Could you please tell me details about your family?” The fat Baron said.

“I belong to a small family of mana wielders Milord, I don’t think you would have heard about us.” He knew what the Baron was trying to do. The fat man was trying to get information out of him about his background, and that information will play a crucial part in determining whether he would in interested in doing business with him or not.

Oh! Is that so? I am sorry. We cannot decide where we take birth, do we? Now please tell me about the business deal that you wanted to propose to me. And please be quick, I have somewhere to go.” The condescending tone of the Baron gave Adui an urge to punch the shit out of him, but with a deep breath, he controlled his emotions and focused on his goal.

“Lord Geon, I am here today on behalf of my master to broker a deal for my Lord.”

“And who might that be?”

“I am not allowed to share my Lord’s name.” The Baron showed a slight reaction to his remark.

“And why is that?”

“My lord has specifically instructed me not to reveal his identity before the deal is finalized. As for why he said so, I didn't ask him. Because as a servant, my duty is to follow orders, not to question my lord’s intent.” The slightly rude tone of Adui made Baron seize him up again. He didn't like his tone, it was evident from his change in expression.

“What does your Lord wants from us?”

“Revenge. He wants revenge on Duke Howser and Baron Hubert.” Baron’s anger in an instant when he mentioned in an instant.

From his research, Adui knew that the fight between the two families was blown out of proportion because House Geon and House Hubert were very close subordinates of Duke Howser and Duke Jemini. Both the Dukes hate each other and are trying to use both Baron as a cover to fight each other.

It is because of the feud between the dukes, the war between these two houses was able to blow out of such proportion. Otherwise, strict action from capital would have been more than enough to stop this nonsense.

“Interesting… What does your Lord have in mind?”

“Dealing with Duke Howser and Baron Hubert head-on would be truly difficult. But that doesn't mean that we could not be creative about it. My lord had a brilliant plan to buy Rose Valley from you guys. With his power and influence, he is 100% sure that he could get the ownership official. He could pull some strings in capitals and get that land bound in an ironclad registry because of which no one would be able to question their claim.” The Baron got lost in thought as he heard Adui’s proposal. “Baron Hubert would be furious because he had lost quite a lot of men while protecting his land. He is bound to make a mistake and move against you or us. He would break the cease-fire and then it would be only a matter of time before House Hubert falls.” Baron’s eyes started twinkling as he heard Adui’s proposal, a smile bloomed on his face, he was about to say something but it was then the young man standing behind him spoke.

“How can we trust you?” the young man spoke. Hearing his question, Adui looked at him and asked him in a flat voice. “You are?”

“I am Rick Geon. The firstborn and the successor of House Geon.” Adui softened his expression when he heard he identity of the young man.

“Pardon me young lord, but I didn't understand your question.”

“I asked you ‘how can we trust you?’.”

“How could you not? Based on what I see, we will buy land from your house, we will compensate your house for a useless piece of land. To me, it sounds like a simple deal.”

“It is not that simple, you are just making it sound so simple. Such things are never so simple.”

“Okay, if you feel that way, then tell me what you need from me that could make you trust us. What could we do to earn your trust.”

“First of all, I would like to know who is buying the land?” The Baron intervened.

“I am sorry, but I am not allowed to reveal the  name of my Lord.”

“How the hell do you want us to trust you if you can’t even tell us the name of your boss.” The young lord replied.

“You could show some trust to me… How about this, the whole transaction would be done in a single day. You hand me over the deed of the land, I will have over the very generous compensation.”

“Generous compensation? Do we look like the kind of people that lacks money? Money doesn't interest me. Adui.” The Baron said.

“You guys will take our offer because we would be offering something that the young lord of House Geon would be interested in.”

“And what might that be?”

“Mana stones of course,” Adui said with a smile.

The meeting went on for an hour more. Baron and his son were very anxious about the deal as they didn't have the right to sell the land in the first place. The whole war they started was a ruse. They were afraid that if the truth came forward in the future then that would be bad for their family, but Adui had thought everything through. It took some time but he was able to convince the Baron to sell him the land.

The young lord who was a Mage played a vital role in the sale. Every mana wielder could always use a mana stone, and he knew precisely how to exploit it…

Piece by piece Martha arranged the wood in the fireplace. Her old fingers were numb from the coldness, even after covering herself in the thickest furs that her mistress’s wardrobe had to offer, she could still feel the cold seeping into her bones trying to freeze her to death.

While arranging wood she tried to remember the days before her life changed forever, she was not a prisoner of those monsters since the beginning, her mistress brought those pale lifeless demons to her house. And now they have destroyed the safe haven that her mistress’s family had built generations ago.

Those monsters had killed most of the maids of the mansion and only she and a few others are left. The rest of them tried dragged to the basement by the monster wearing the knight’s armor and were slaughtered. The mansion that she had worked on most of her life and had become her home was now the cruelest prison for her.

She remembers things were not bad at first, the mistress came from a trip one whole week early, and accompanying her were those monsters. She instructed everyone to keep quiet about her return, as it was a command from the mistress, she threatened everyone in the mansion to keep her arrival a secret, as the head maid it was her duty to do so.

The mistress kept to herself for that week, she didn't eat nor she came out of her room, those demons told her that her mistress of in between something important and should not be disturbed. And she agreed. At the time she didn't think that something was wrong. But when the mistress came out of her room, her whole demeanor changed, the color of her skin and her eyes, everything changed. The faithful night she came out, the slaughter started.

She remembers it clearly, she was asleep in her room, and she heard a scream. Jouline, a young girl was the first victim. She came out of her room to see chaos around the house, everyone running here and there, trying to get away from the knight that was grabbing anyone that would come in his way and then dragging them to the basement. The big guy probably stopped when he realized that they needed some people to clean the mansion, at least that is what she thinks.

After the slaughter, the mistress ordered everyone to go back to the rooms. Everyone was so terrified of what they had witnessed that they obeyed her command without any question. The next day, Mr. Adui came to the mansion, she heard him yelling her name, but she was too terrified to go reply to him. And then he left.

It had been 12 days since then, she knows that there is no help coming for her, still, she likes to pray in front of the fire whenever she cooks, thinking that her lord and savior, Tibba would help her…

“MARTHA!” someone yelled. She abruptly got up from in front of the fireplace and started running towards the sound.

As she came to the sitting area, Sara, the most obscene demon of them all was standing naked in the area all by herself. “There you are, come down here. There is a postman here from the Post Guild.” She yelled and then went inside. Martha didn't show it on her face, but she was very happy that someone came from the guild.

A few days ago she made a plan to send a note to the outside world about her perils and the postman was the perfect guy to which she could send the message to the outside world. She knew the postman that would come here, so giving him the note would be a safe bet.

She came down and went to the front gate to be greeted by Oliver, a young chap from the guild. And by his side was the big monstrous knight in shining armor staring down at him.

Oliver knew her well and if he found the note, she believed that he would be able to call for help, at least that is what she had hoped for. But the real problem was the big knight standing by Oliver, if he sees her passing him the note then only she, but poor Oliver would be dead as well. She had to be quick and decisive.

“Martha, pleasure seeing you this fine morning. Tell me how is your day going?” She didn't show any reaction to Oliver’s words, she then snatched the letters from his hand and started looking at them one by one. The boy tried to initiate a talk, but she didn't respond.

Usually, whenever he comes around, she chats with him as they knew each other since Oliver was a little boy, her motive was to make him feel that something was wrong with her today. After she had sorted them out, she grabbed the boy’s hand and passed him 30 bronze coins. “Take them all and go home.” She said in a cold voice.

The boy looked confused because of her tone. Also, the coins she had handed him over were too much, but seeing her strict eyes, he brushed the matter aside and went on his way. She had discreetly passed him the note while sticking it between the coins so the knight could not see it.

She felt a tinge of happiness as she was finally able to send a message to the outside world. Now everything depends on Oliver and her lord Tibba…
