He swung the wooden sword out left to right watching Gemma instructing him. She was dressed more military than his arrival in the house where she had barely anything on prior to patronizing him.
"Do it with more feeling!" Gemma scolded.
Ares watched happily from the tiny porch attached. She kicked her legs to and fro wearing nothing more than a pink tube top dress pushing her legs back and forth.
"We don't know how far he can go yet!" Ares noted.
He stretched his legs out bringing it back down once again. Gemma slipped down to embrace Lian from behind as she laid her down on his shoulder.
"You won't leave here till you are exhausted…" She whispered.
She quietly backed away crossing her hands. Lian suddenly became nervous. He is merely the age of fifteen and around thirsty women who only have an interest in him improving his ability to use for their own sake.
It took a few days alone to recover. Back and forth. Back and forth till his arms were sore and his legs were jelly from learning to position till his shirt was covered in sweat.
Tremain gawked at the boy training from the hall before entering to observe the mechanical piece work in and out. Ares was taking notes and concentrated on the action ordered to him by Gemma.
He swiftly walked away with his hands behind his back looking satisfied to Merricks old study where he pulled the drawers of the cabinet out to check their contents wistfully.
Still mourning his old companion's death had him wondering why he decided to leave in the first place. Squeezing the original design for the spine piece between his fingers feeling a sudden pang of jealousy.
"I won't let them have Lian back…" He growled.
Tremain ran back down the hall to find him still in the fit of training. He snuck behind Ares to scare her. She jumped embarrassed that she had been seen acting so relaxed.
"Time to take a break!" Tremain clapped.
"We aren't done!" Gemma shouted.
She became furious at Tremain stomping over to him ready to throw a punch when he caught it easily with his palm. Lian was instantly frightened catching the sight of his captor and father's old friend.
Lian held tight to his wooden sword glancing at the waxy blue man from the side of his limited vision. A smile appeared on his small lips.
"Lian, that is what your name was right?" Tremain asked.
He only nodded slowly keeping an eye on the man. A growing look of concern as the girls exited behind him. Being left alone was intimidating enough for him.
"What do you want?" Lian asked.
Almost forgetting about the implant he nearly slapped Lian on the back. Gently he wrapped his arm around his back making him drop the training sword. Tremain paced him slowly.
Step by step making eye contact. Lian hung on to every word told to him the longer it went on.
"Your father was an amazing Reaper, Lian…" Tremains voice creaked.
"Why are reapers not allowed to be around family?" Lian questioned.
"Well you need to do a lot of training like you are now." He smiled.
"He couldn't do that with me and Mom and Lily?" Lian thought.
"Family is a distraction, Lian."
"I see…"
Disappointment could be heard in Lian's voice the more he asked questions. Existence itself felt useless to him at that very moment.

"Why me? You must be asking yourself!" Tremain responded.
A glimmer of light speckled in his eyes. Instead of answering Lian waited patiently for him to answer his own question.
"My boy you have an opportunity to rise in this world as a king like your ancestors before them and your mother hid you away from the world!" He explained.
"King?" Lian said.
"You are only here for training!" Tremain reminded.
"For how long?" Lian questioned.
"Once you can beat me." Tremain snickered.
"Then I can leave this place?"
"Yes Lian, you can leave here to join others," Tremain stated.
Lian thought a moment about everything that just had happened, but then there was Aylin who he just opened up to and re-birthed her existence now a strange man is telling him he must be able to beat him to leave.
"Why are you doing this?" Lian asked.
"Because the reapers your father knew were brutal."
"Why bring me to my Dad's old house?" Lian begged.
"So many questions! Calm down! Calm down!" Tremain laughed.
The kid quieted fast thinking about what he is thinking. Who are these other reapers he wondered though it is more likely connected to his Dad's invention?
"Fine…" Lian huffed.
"Great! Well, now you can officially rest after you take a bath!" Tremain yelled.
Tremain held his nose and motioned how sweaty he was. He took the child's hand leading him to the shared bathroom in what is basically a haunted house itself.
Cobwebs hung from the corners of the dirty wood. Lian couldn't imagine why anyone would want to come back to this place even if they clung to a miserable memory. He sensed something deeper holding tighter to aging walls.
Magic all it's own could be felt. Lian thought he was a strange man as he hurried to shower. A knock on the door had him nearly fall into the slipper base of the ivory-colored tub.
"Lian, I have clothing for you once you get out!" Ares shouted.
"Okay!" Lian said nervously.
"They will be beside the door!" She yelled back.
Something felt so wrong to him. Would Merrick really want him here in his old house? Something was repelling him from being here like an invisible force telling him he needed to leave this place at once, but that man plans to not let him leave.
Taking the towel he hurriedly dries off and swiftly opened the door peeking out to check if anyone was there to take the clothing Ares had left for him.
He sighed heavily as he took the articles to change. He gawked around for a couple of seconds pondering what room he was using.
"Does it matter what room I use?" Lian asked.
