Spring. For a freshman like me, it meant the school entrance ceremony. A grueling trial made to let students suffer from the excruciating soreness of lining up in the gymnasium for hours long. To say that I hated the entrance ceremony would be an understatement.

"How long is he going to talk like that?"

"Who knows?"

The other students behind me murmured between themselves as the speech from the principal had passed the thirty minutes mark. I could imagine the principal had actually memorized his speech and copy-pasted it whenever new students enrolled here every year.

"I guess I've taken your time long enough, so let me once again say this to mark the new beginning of your life here. Welcome to Advanced Nurturing High School." The principal finally closed his speech as he walked out of the podium.

"Mr. Principal, thank you for the warm welcome. Next, I'd like to invite the student council president, Tooru Azumane from class 3-A to deliver his speech."

"... Are you for real?"

And thus, my brand new page of life began with boredom and pain.

Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School was an institution established by the government that boasted 100% employment and college entry rate of their graduates.

And starting today, I officially became one of those lucky fews who got accepted this year. Although, I did have a bit of a problem adjusting myself here.

"Oof! My bad! I didn't see you there!"

"Ah! Sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you like that."

"The fuck?! Watch where you're walking, punk!"

I couldn't help but let an audible sigh out as I entered the classroom.

To other people, my existence was that of thin air, lacking enough presence that people barely noticed me until they crashed their body into me. Fortunately, there wasn't any major issue from this frightening presence I had.

I looked around and found my seat was located at the furthest back just beside the window. This seat position would make it harder for the teacher to notice my presence in class. Talked about being unlucky for the entirety of the day.

I pulled the chair, causing it to make a rattling sound which surprised the girl who was minding her own business reading a novel right beside me.

"Hii!" she squealed with a jump.

"Ah, my bad. I didn't mean to surprise you," I apologized, giving her a slight bow.

"No, no! It's okay! I should've paid more attention to my surroundings instead! I'm sorry for being rude!" she replied to my apology with another apology, what a curious girl.

"Anyway, it looks like you'll be my neighbor for the rest of the year. My name is Kiyoomi Konpaku, please treat me well," I introduced myself as I took my seat.

"Kiyoomi Konpaku… is that a pen-name?" she frankly asked.

"Well, it's my actual name," I told her.

"Ah, I see! I'm sorry for being ignorant! My name is Mimi Himeji! Let's get along, Konpaku-kun!"

My impression of Mimi Himeji was that she probably lived a life filled with apologies up until now. Aside from that, she was naturally one, if not the cutest girl in this class.

A few minutes after my first ever conversation in my high school life, the first bell rang. A beautiful woman with a stern face entered our class. She wore a suit over a white shirt, and her long hair was tied into a ponytail.

"On your seat, students. My name is Sae Chabashira, and I will be acting as your homeroom teacher for the next three years of your study in this school. Before we move on, I'd like to distribute written materials about the school's special rules and admission guide."

Unlike any other standard Japanese high school, this school had its own system which set it apart from any normal high school.

The S-System, as they said.

The first huge difference was the fact that students were prohibited from making contact with anyone from outside of the school, including stepping our feet outside of the school ground without permission. Students were also required to live in dormitories located within the campus.

On the bright side, this campus was well equipped with a lot of facilities for students to have a life apart from studying with the likes of a mall, movie theatre, public park, and so on.

"Next is your student identification. The electronic ID card should be accessible from the smartphone the school has provided you with, please take a look at it." Chabasira-sensei said.

As per Chabashira-sensei's instruction, the students took their phones out and opened their identification app. Of course I did the same.

"By simply tapping this electronic ID card, you can gain access to the school's facilities, purchase any available goods from the store, and many more. On the first day of every month, you'll be allotted points to make those purchases. One point is equal to one yen. And this month's 100,000- point should've been distributed to your device."

The class blew up from that explanation.

Understandably, 100,000- yen was not by any means a small amount of money. I guess that was as expected from an elite school funded by the Japanese government.

"Surprised? Well, this school evaluates students based on their proficiency. This is the sign of the government's trust in you who has passed the school's entrance exam, which in itself speaks to your value here as our student."

'Without being bound by anything? Yeah, I can hardly believe that.'

However I thought about it, there was absolutely no viable logic that supported such action, even from the government itself.

"You can use your point without any limit of its usage. But once you graduate, the point will return to the school. Thus, there's no merit in saving them either. You may also transfer your point to someone else in case of emergency, but please do take note that extortion is strictly prohibited by the school."

As Chabashira-sensei looked at the befuddled students in front of her, she gave us a satisfied smile.

"Well then, it looks like no one has any questions. Please enjoy your time here as students of class 1-D."

After the teacher was gone, the restless students began to speak their thoughts to each other.

"Hey! Wanna check out the mall later?"

"Sure! I was about to ask the same thing!"

Looked like most of the students were on the same page about spending those points immediately.

"Everyone, can I have your time for a moment?" said a male student as he stood from his seat.

From his appearance alone, I could already guess that he would be in the center of the class.

"Since we're all now classmates, I just think that it'd be nice for us to introduce ourselves and get to know each other better. How about it?"

A sign of bravery. This guy would surely become the respected leader of our class in the future.

"Agreed!"

"Me too!"

The other students, mostly females, banded together as they approved the guy's suggestion.

"My name's Tsubasa Kaiba. Feel free to call me whatever you feel comfortable with! My hobby is playing baseball. A pleasure to meet you all here!"

Kaiba's introduction was met by eyes of admiration from the other students, especially females. Looking from how charismatic and passionate of a person he was, it's no wonder that the opposite sex would flock onto him.

"My name is Ruiko Tachibana. My hobby is flower arranging. Nice to meet you."

The girl calling herself Tachibana might be plain appearance wise, but she had her own charm when she gave a sigh of relief after her introduction.

"I'm Satoshi Uchimaki. I used to play tennis back in junior high, but I got injured after one tournament and have never touched the sport ever again. Pleased to meet you!"

Were people supposed to be proud of their injuries from sport tournaments? Was it like a battle scar or some sort?

"My name is Junpei Minegishi. I love nature, and my hobby is camping. Nice to meet you all!"

This time a high spirited male student introduced himself with a wide grin on his face. He seemed to be the person to go to when you have a bad day as he radiated positivity to his surroundings.

"I guess I'm next in the line," the next student stood from her desk and turned her face toward the surrounding students.

"My name is Tsubame Kunikida. My first and foremost goal in this school is to befriend everyone in this class! I want to make as many memories with everyone here. So please, feel free to ask me out!"

Such a genuine introduction. She'd be the kind of girl who got along with both girls and boys alike without a problem. The introduction continued.

"My name's Mimi Himeji. I love reading books. Pleased to meet you."

A simple but on point introduction coming from Himeji. I guess it's my time now to introduce myself, huh?

"Uhm… Kiyoomi Konpaku. I don't have any hobby I particularly like, and neither do I have any special skill I'm particularly good at. Uhm… nice to meet you."

For some reason, I flopped my introduction in front of my whole classmates. Talk about a blunder from the nerves of being looked at!

"Don't you think he's kind of cool?"

"I know, right? Also, don't you think his name is fascinating?"

"Right? He has this mature vibe with him, too."

Much to my surprise, some of the girls actually took an interest in me. It was definitely not an awful feeling. I'm kind of glad.
